Yordanny Monegro Will Have Tommy John surgery

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Yordanny Monegro (elbow) was having a strong year in Double-A with the Portland Sea Dogs, but he will need Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament. The 22-year-old was ranked as the No. 22 prospect in the Red Sox' farm system by MLB Pipeline and went 2-1 in his nine games (eight starts) for Portland, posting a solid 2.67 ERA, 2.39 FIP, and 49 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings. Monegro will miss the rest of 2025 and likely all of the 2026 season, which is especially relevant since he would be eligible for the Rule 5 Draft this winter if not placed on the 40-man roster. After his strong start to the season in Portland, he's a name that could get some attention in the Rule 5 Draft if another team is willing to wait out his recovery.

Yordanny Monegro Tallies Season-High 10 Punchouts

Boston Red Sox right-handed pitching prospect Yordanny Monegro tallied a season-high 10 punchouts during his contest against Double-A Reading on Tuesday. Monegro allowed just three hits across five shutout frames. He served up one free pass. Through his first taste of Double-A action, the No. 23-ranked prospect in the Boston system has been able to hold his own. Across 26 1/3 innings, Monegro has posted a strong 2.05 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP. He has struck out 47 batters and served up just seven walks. Last season, the right-hander logged 66 innings with High-A Greenville and posted a 2.73 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP. Given his steady progress at Double-A, dynasty managers should expect Monegro to contend for a late-season taste of Triple-A.

Yordanny Monegro Strikes Out Nine In Four Innings

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Yordanny Monegro tallied nine punchouts across four one-run innings on Wednesday. Monegro's lone run was unearned. He allowed four hits and did not serve a free pass. This was another strong outing for the 22-year-old as he logged three 1/3 innings of one-run ball in his first start of the campaign. In this outing, he struck out six with just one walk. Last summer, Monegro spent most of his campaign with High-A Greenville and logged 66 innings to the tune of a 2.73 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP. Monegro has already begun to take the next step at Double-A and is flashing elite strikeout upside. He is worth monitoring as he looks to push for a late-season Triple-A debut.

Yordanny Monegro Throws Five Hitless Innings

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Yordanny Monegro picked up a win with five no-hit innings on Thursday night for High-A Greenville. The right-hander struck out six and did not issue a walk. The 21-year-old is now 3-2 in 12 starts across two levels this season with a 3.88 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. At just High-A this season, Monegro has a 3.95 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 49 strikeouts across 41 innings. The Red Sox' No. 14 prospect has a nasty 60-grade curveball with a plus fastball-slider combination. He is a promising arm, although he is still pretty raw as a prospect.
