  • Devonta Freeman Could Be Back On Field Soon

Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman (concussion) could be done with the NFL-mandated concussion protocol in "the next couple of day" before returning to practice, according to head coach Dan Quinn. Freeman suffered the injury in practice Sunday and was put in the concussion protocol Monday. The lead running back won't play in the second preseason game against the Steelers Sunday. The Falcons have every reason to be cautious with their star back this early in the preseason, and assuming he suffers no setbacks, Freeman should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Despite continuing to share touches with backfield mate Tevin Coleman, Freeman has been an elite RB1 for fantasy purposes the last two years and should continue to be drafted as such.

  • Devonta Freeman In Concussion Protocol

Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman is currently in the concussion protocol and will not play in the preseason game against the Steelers on Sunday, according to head coach Dan Quinn. The good news is it's still early in the preseason and Freeman should be alright. The Falcons are likely playing it cautious with their bell-cow running back. Despite sharing touches with Tevin Coleman the last two seasons, Freeman has managed to top 1,000 yards each of the past two years and score 22 total touchdowns on the ground. It may be hard for him to continue to put up those lofty numbers with Coleman in the mix, but Freeman has earned the benefit of the doubt at this point. He's a high-end RB1 that'll come off the board early.

  • Devonta Freeman, Falcons Agree On New Deal

The Atlanta Falcons and running back Devonta Freeman agreed to a new five-year, $41.25 million extension Wednesday that will make him the highest paid running back in the league, according to a source informed of the situation. He'll receive an annual average of $8.25 million over the entire deal, and the contract includes $17.3 million fully guaranteed and $22 million in guarantees. Freeman will also receive a $15 million signing bonus. The 25-year-old certainly earned it by running for 2,140 yards and 22 touchdowns the last two seasons as Atlanta's featured back. He voiced frustration last year over splitting touches with Tevin Coleman, but Freeman still put up big numbers. It'll be an uphill battle to continue producing at a high level with Coleman still in the picture, but Freeman remains a upper-echelon RB1 worth considering late in the first round of drafts.
