Lions Expect Malcolm Rodriguez to Return in Week 11

The Detroit Lions are expecting linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) to make his 2025 season debut in Week 11 on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles, sources told Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Rodriguez has been on the Physically Unable to Perform list all year while recovering from a torn right ACL that he suffered last November. However, the Lions are planning on opening the 26-year-old linebacker's 21-day practice window at some point this week. Detroit will then have 21 days to officially activate the former sixth-rounder from the PUP list. Rodriguez will most likely be eased back into the linebacker rotation for Detroit after he makes his season debut, but his return will be a nice boost for an already strong Lions' defensive unit for the second half of the season.

Malcolm Rodriguez Returning to Practice This Week

The Detroit Lions are designating linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) to return from Injured Reserve, sources tell Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, meaning he'll begin practicing with the team this week. Rodriguez is returning from a torn ACL that he suffered in Week 13 of the 2024 season, but he's nearing a return and will play a key role in defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard's scheme down the stretch. It's great news that the 26-year-old is returning to practice, but the Lions still need to officially activate him from the Physically Unable to Perform list before he can make his 2025 debut. He almost certainly won't be ready to play in the team's Week 9 divisional contest this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, but he could be ready to make his season debut in Week 10 on the road against the Washington Commanders.

Malcolm Rodriguez Not Expected to Return Until November

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) isn't expected to return from his knee injury until November. Rodriguez made it through 10 games (six starts) for Detroit in 2024 in his third year in the league before tearing his ACL against the Chicago Bears and going on season-ending Injured Reserve. Before the serious knee injury, the 26-year-old had 43 tackles (27 solo), two sacks, and a fumble recovery. With Rodriguez's injury coming late in the season, he's not going to be ready for the start of the 2025 campaign and will just be hoping to rejoin the club in the second half of the season. Rodriguez has a total of 151 tackles (102 solo), three sacks, 10 tackles for loss, five QB hits, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his three NFL seasons and will remain off the IDP fantasy radar.

Malcolm Rodriguez Out For The Year After Suffering Torn ACL

Detroit Lions linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez (knee) suffered a torn right ACL in Thursday's Thanksgiving Day win over the division-rival Chicago Bears and will miss the rest of the season. It's a tough blow for Rodriguez, who had started six games this year while picking up 43 tackles and two sacks. The 25-year-old's season-ending injury came in the fourth quarter of the eventual 23-20 victory over Chicago on Turkey Day. He had five tackles and one pass breakup in the game before departing. Rodriguez will certainly need surgery and could be in danger of missing the start of the 2025 season, depending on how his rehab goes in the offseason. The Lions defense also lost a key piece of their linebacking corps recently when Alex Anzalone broke his forearm. The 30-year-old is expected to miss six to eight weeks and was placed on Injured Reserve.
