Charlie McAvoy Out Indefinitely After Facial Surgery

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (face) will be out indefinitely after having facial surgery. He took a slap shot to the face in Saturday's win over the Montreal Canadiens. The star blue-liner will be out for a second consecutive game when Boston takes on the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. "He's doing good," Bruins head coach Marco Sturm said on Wednesday morning. "He's recovering right now at home, and we still don't know how long he's going to be out for." Henri Jokiharju took McAvoy's spot in the lineup on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes and had an assist on the team's only goal in a 3-1 loss. On Wednesday, he has a chance to get on a score sheet in back-to-back games for the first time this season.

Charlie McAvoy Out Against Hurricanes

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (face) won't play on Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes. He might be unavailable for several games because McAvoy may need surgery after taking a puck to the face in Saturday's win over the Montreal Canadiens. With McAvoy out, the Bruins lose quality on both ends of the ice. The star blue-liner has recorded 14 assists, 32 blocks, and 26 hits in 19 games. In his absence, Henri Jokiharju will play on Monday, joining the first defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. A more important role in the Bruins defense will increase Jokiharju's fantasy value, although he hasn't been very impactful this season, posting three assists in 19 appearances.

Charlie McAvoy Sustains Upper-Body Injury Against Canadiens

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (upper body) had to exit Saturday's contest against the Montreal Canadiens after being struck by a puck. He took a slapshot to the face during a Canadiens power play in the second period. McAvoy recently missed his first game of the season for personal reasons, and unfortunately, he may have to sit out some action again. In 19 appearances, McAvoy has logged 14 assists, 25 shots, 32 blocks, and 26 hits. If McAvoy misses Monday's matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, Henri Jokiharju will likely get an opportunity to play. Meanwhile, Mason Lohrei could receive additional power-play usage.

Charlie McAvoy Back in Action Tuesday

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (personal) will return from a one-game absence on Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He missed Saturday's meeting with the Maple Leafs due to a family matter. Mason Lohrei had an impressive showing in a 5-3 victory on Saturday with two assists and will remain in the lineup for Tuesday's rematch. McAvoy will take Jonathan Aspirot's place in the backline. After overcoming a shoulder issue, McAvoy has enjoyed a fruitful campaign, recording 12 assists in 16 games. He has yet to score a goal with 21 shots, but has made up for it with his work on the defensive end, blocking 26 shots from the opposition and delivering 24 hits.

Charlie McAvoy Sits Out Saturday's Game

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (personal) won't be in the lineup on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He will miss his first game of the season for personal reasons. McAvoy's absence means that Boston will be without their most creative player on Saturday night, as the American blue-liner leads his team with 12 assists in 14 games. He hasn't yet managed to score this season, despite sending 21 attempts on the net. McAvoy has also been busy on the defensive end, with 26 blocks and 24 hits. Mason Lohrei, who has been a healthy scratch for five games, will hop into the lineup on Saturday.

Charlie McAvoy Ready to Go for Next Season

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (shoulder) will be fully healthy for the start of training camp. In a conversation with Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald, McAvoy indicated that he would have even been ready to play in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs if the Bruins had extended their season. McAvoy missed the final two months of last term due to a shoulder infection he sustained during the 4 Nations Face-Off. The American blue-liner finished his eighth NHL campaign with 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists), 98 shots, 81 blocks, and 89 hits in 50 games. McAvoy does it all for the Bruins and is poised for another productive fantasy season in 2025-26.

Charlie McAvoy Not Returning This Season

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (shoulder) will not return to the lineup this season. He has been out of action since hurting his shoulder during the 4 Nations Face-Off, and Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco said on Thursday that there is just not enough time for McAvoy to be cleared by the medical staff. The same applies to forward Mark Kastelic (upper body), who last suited up on March 20. It was a disappointing campaign for McAvoy, who did not reach the heights he had attained in previous years, posting 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 50 games. Henri Jokiharju has stepped into the first defensive pairing in McAvoy's absence, with Mason Lohrei seeing increased power-play usage.

Charlie McAvoy Develops Shoulder Infection

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy sustained a shoulder injury during the 4 Nations Face-Off. He was held out of action during their contest against Team Sweden on Monday evening. McAvoy suffered an AC joint injury in his shoulder. However, he then developed an infection in that shoulder. He underwent a debridement procedure and remains in the hospital. McAvoy has been ruled out for Thursday's final against Team Canada and is expected to miss time once the NHL resumes. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status. With Team USA, he was playing top minutes. While sidelined, Jake Sanderson will likely remain in the lineup during their final game against Team Canada. Through 50 NHL contests, the 27-year-old has tallied 23 points with 89 hits and 81 blocks.

Charlie McAvoy Returns To Action Thursday

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (upper body) will return to the lineup on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets. Boston has been without its No. 1 defenseman for seven games as McAvoy has been recovering from an upper-body injury. McAvoy will join Mason Lohrei on the first defensive pairing and is set to skate with the first power play unit. The 2024-25 campaign has not been kind for McAvoy, who is on track to finish with fewer than 40 points for the first time since 2020-21 when the NHL season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He has recorded five goals and 20 points in 45 games.

Charlie McAvoy Out On Monday

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (upper body) will miss a third consecutive game on Monday against San Jose. He continues to nurse an upper-body injury, and it's unclear when Boston will get him back. Nikita Zadorov and Brandon Carlo have made up the first defensive pairing during McAvoy's absence, with Mason Lohrei hopping on the top power-play unit. Lohrei has posted three assists with the man advantage over the past three games. He has a good chance to stay hot on Monday against San Jose's 79 percent penalty kill.

Charlie McAvoy Lands On Injured Reserve

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (undisclosed) was placed on Injured Reserve Tuesday, meaning he will miss at least two games. McAvoy's absence will begin with Tuesday's clash against Tampa Bay, and he will also have to sit out Saturday's contest against Ottawa. "Charlie's been dealing with a nagging injury for the last little while here," Bruins head coach Joe Sacco said on Tuesday. "So, he's going to be shut down for the next couple of games and then we'll reevaluate him after the game in Ottawa on Saturday and we'll see where he is next week." Parker Wotherspoon will replace McAvoy in the lineup on Tuesday. Mason Lohrei will take over from McAvoy on the first power-play unit, which gives his fantasy stock a nice little boost.

Charlie McAvoy Pots Two Goals As Bruins Cruise Past Canadiens

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy provided two goals in Sunday's big 6-3 win over Montreal. His second of the game came in a short-handed situation, and McAvoy added four shots, three blocks, and two hits to his tally with a plus-four rating across 23:00 of action. This was possibly the best outing of the season for McAvoy, who has been slumping all year offensively. He's only now hit double figures for scoring, producing five goals and five assists in 26 games. Entering Sunday's action, McAvoy wasn't even Boston's highest-scoring defenseman, with Mason Lohrei on nine points. He's finished in and around the 50-point mark in three consecutive campaigns, but McAvoy needs to up his scoring pace massively to get there in 2024-25.

Charlie McAvoy Likely Returning Tuesday

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (upper body) is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday after missing the previous four games with an upper-body injury suffered December 7. McAvoy took morning skate and head coach Jim Montgomery said he is likely in, but they are going to wait and see how he feels at game time. If he does play, McAvoy will return to a top pairing role and will see time on the B's first powerplay unit. The stud d-man has 17 points (three goals, 17 assists) in 21 games this season. Get him back in your lineups as soon as he is confirmed in.

Charlie McAvoy Misses Practice Friday

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (shoulder) did not practice on Friday and is considered day-to-day. McAvoy left Thursday's game early with a shoulder injury and could miss Saturday's game, although the team is hopeful he can play. The stud blueliner has 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) in 21 games played this year to go with solid peripherals. If he is forced to miss time, expect Hampus Lindholm to see a bump up to the first powerplay unit, making him a terrific stream.

Charlie McAvoy Has Four-Game Suspension Upheld

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has had his four-game suspension upheld on appeal by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. The rear guard was handed a four-game ban for a hit to the head of Florida Panthers defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson during a 3-2 overtime win on Oct. 30. He has missed three games since the incident, leaving him eligible to return to the lineup Saturday on the road against the Montreal Canadiens. It's been a hot start to the season for the American who has tallied two goals and eight points across nine games with 23 penalty minutes, 19 shots, 17 hits, and 20 blocks, as well. The Bruins have managed to thrive without their No. 1 defenseman as they sit second in the NHL with 21 points thanks to a 10-1-1 record on the young campaign.

Charlie McAvoy Appealing Four-Game Suspension

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy is appealing his four-game suspension for a hit to the head of Florida Panthers defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson. McAvoy was assessed a five-minute match penalty and a game misconduct for a high hit on Ekman-Larsson midway through the third period of Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Panthers and was slapped with a four-game ban on Tuesday. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has the final say on whether to uphold or reduce the suspension while he held up a four-game suspension upon appeal for Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson in a similar incident last week. The American-born McAvoy has two goals and eight points on 19 shots with 17 hits and 20 blocked shots across nine games on the season.

Charlie McAvoy Suspended Four Games

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has received a four-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Florida Panthers defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The incident resulted in McAvoy getting a match penalty in Monday's game, and he'll now have plenty of time to think about his actions. McAvoy scored in a second consecutive game Monday and has been on fire with eight points in nine games. The Bruins also lost Matt Grzelcyk (upper body) to injury in Monday's game, meaning the entire first defensive pairing got wiped out in one night. Hampus Lindholm and Brandon Carlo should receive a nice boost in playing time now, while the rest of the blue line will need to put in extra shifts as well. McAvoy will be eligible to return to action on Nov. 11 against Montreal.

Charlie McAvoy Good To Go Saturday

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy (upper body) will be in the lineup Saturday against New Jersey. He left Thursday's battle against Toronto early with an upper-body injury and it was first reported that Boston will keep him out of the lineup over the weekend, but it's now been confirmed that McAvoy is ready to play. The 25-year-old enters Saturday's action on 50 points, having enjoyed a very fruitful spell in recent games with five points posted across his last five appearances. He should take his normal duties on the first defensive pairing and the second power-play unit. Meanwhile, Boston has confirmed that winger Taylor Hall (lower body) will also play Saturday.

Charlie McAvoy Likely Out For The Weekend

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy isn't expected to play over the weekend after leaving Thursday's 2-1 overtime win over Toronto with an upper-body injury. He was pulled from the game as a precaution, but the Bruins obviously have no reason whatsoever to play him when he's not completely healthy, with the team comfortably leading the league. McAvoy has posted his second consecutive 50-point campaign with seven goals and 43 assists in 64 games. His absence gave Connor Clifton's minutes a big boost Thursday and it should allow Jakub Zboril back into the lineup for Saturday's game against New Jersey.

Charlie McAvoy Keeps The Assists Coming

Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy registered an assist on all of the team's goals in Monday's 3-1 victory over the Senators. Jake DeBrusk scored his first goal since returning from injury and David Pastrnak found the net twice. It's McAvoy's second consecutive multi-assist game, and he has amassed nine helpers in total across his past seven appearances. McAvoy didn't make his season debut until Nov. 10, but he's been well worth the wait. The American blue-liner has logged 35 assists and 39 points in 43 games with 68 shots on net, 53 hits and 82 blocks.
