John Tavares Nets Two Goals In Friday's Victory

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares scored twice to lead Toronto to a victory on Friday evening over the Detroit Red Wings. Tavares scored the eventual game-winner in the second period on the man-advantage on a wrist shot. Mitch Marner and Morgan Rielly tallied the assists. Then, the 34-year-old would go on to score the empty-netter in the final minutes. This game snapped a three-game pointless streak where he held a poor -3 rating. However, prior to that cold stretch, Tavares held a six-game point streak. Fantasy managers should continue to rely on Tavares to provide solid scoring production playing in the Toronto top 6 and top power-play unit.

John Tavares Hits 12th Career Hat Trick

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares grabbed his 12th career hat trick as the team delivered Winnipeg its first defeat of the season on Monday. Tavares opened and finished the scoring in a 6-4 road win while leading the team with seven shots. The veteran star had been held goalless since he opened the campaign with two markers in three games. He's now on five goals and four assists for the season through nine outings. Tavares has steadily picked up steam and is riding a five-game point streak following Monday's outing. He skated with Max Pacioretty and William Nylander against the Jets, and it's safe to assume the trio will stick together for a bit.

John Tavares Expected To Return On Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares (illness) is on track to rejoin the lineup on Wednesday versus Los Angeles. Tavares missed Saturday's clash with Pittsburgh due to an illness but returned to practice on Tuesday. Playing on the second line, Tavares has posted one goal with six shots in two games this season. While he is set to return to the lineup on Wednesday, Tavares has admitted that he still isn't feeling 100 percent, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect too much from the veteran star against the Kings.

John Tavares Out On Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares (illness) will not play against Pittsburgh on Saturday. The former Maple Leafs captain has gone down with an illness. He exits the lineup after posting one goal with six shots in the first two games of the season. Pontus Holmberg and Bobby McCann will have a chance to get extra usage with Tavares out. The veteran star will get his first opportunity to return on Wednesday versus Los Angeles.

John Tavares Returns To Maple Leafs Lineup Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares (lower body) will return to the lineup for Saturday's preseason finale against Detroit. The former Maple Leafs captain has been troubled by a lower-body injury lately, missing a week of action. Tavares' return on Saturday signals that he will also be good to go for the regular-season opener. The veteran star will have plenty to prove this season after having a down year last term. He's expected to start the campaign on the second line with Max Domi and William Nylander. Tavares should also get heavy usage on the top power-play unit.

John Tavares Considered Day-To-Day With Lower-Body Injury

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares is considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Tavares was hurt in the team's preseason contest against Montreal on Thursday. He was able to finish the game but only saw limited action, logging two shifts in the third period. Tavares missed Friday's practice due to the injury. William Nylander (undisclosed) was also injured against the Canadiens, and Auston Matthews (upper body) has been out of the lineup, so the Maple Leafs' big guns have gotten quite banged up in preseason. However, all three appear to be dealing with minor issues and should be ready for the start of the regular season.

John Tavares Moved To Third-Line Center

The Toronto Maple Leafs have moved veteran center John Tavares to the third line in an effort to give the long-time NHLer some lesser matchups from the opposition. After a hot start, Tavares hasn't been nearly as productive at the offensive end of the ice as he sits with a still-solid 40 points across 52 games on the season, a notable drop from the 80 points he notched in as many games a season ago. Although he has five points in five February games, Tavares struggled with just two goals and four points in 13 January contests. He figures to center the red-hot Bobby McMann and Nick Robertson on Wednesday in Arizona while Max Domi will retain his spot in between Tyler Bertuzzi and William Nylander on the second line.

John Tavares Unavailable Saturday

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares will sit out Saturday's contest against Anaheim with an undisclosed injury. The Maple Leafs captain has just returned from an illness but is forced to sit out another game on Saturday. According to the team, Tavares is dealing with a minor injury and is considered day-to-day. With Tavares out, Max Domi is set to center the second line on Saturday. He's struggled offensively in recent weeks, but playing next to William Nylander puts Domi in an excellent spot to break out of the slump.

Mitchell Marner And John Tavares Expected To Return On Thursday

Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Mitchell Marner (illness) and John Tavares (illness) are expected to rejoin the lineup Thursday versus Philadelphia. Both players missed Tuesday's game against St. Louis with an illness and couldn't practice on Wednesday. Additionally, William Nylander was absent on Wednesday but is also expected to play on Thursday. The return of Marner and Tavares will be a nice boost for the Maple Leafs, who look to win their sixth game in eight outings on Thursday.

John Tavares Posts Two Points In Loss

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares finished with a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-2 loss against the Islanders. Tavares picked up an assist on forward Mitchell Marner's goal at the beginning of the second period, while he added a power-play goal of his own to tie the game with under five minutes remaining in the final frame. It was the first multi-point effort since Dec.14 for the Maple Leafs captain, while his season totals consist of 14 goals and 37 points through 48 games.

John Tavares On Career-Worst Scoring Drought

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares finds himself on his career-worst scoring drought after going an eighth consecutive game without a point in Sunday's 3-1 win over Seattle. Tavares' previous worst spell without a point was a seven-game run from his rookie campaign in 2009-10. The Maple Leafs captain has had 23 shots on goal without any points during his barren spell while amassing a minus-six rating. He will have his next chance to end the poor run against Winnipeg on Wednesday.

John Tavares Joins 1,000-Point Club In Loss Versus Islanders

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares had a bittersweet meeting with the Islanders on Monday, reaching 1,000 career points with a goal and an assist but losing the game to his former team 4-3 in overtime. Tavares became the sixth player in league history to reach the 1,000-point plateau in a game against a former franchise. Monday also marked a fourth consecutive game with at least one point for Tavares. The Maple Leafs captain has heated up again after finishing off November with only one point in five games. The two-point effort means that Tavares is now on a point-per-game pace for the season, having notched eight goals and 17 assists across 25 appearances.

John Tavares Posts Three Points In Comeback Victory

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares scored the game-winning goal and added two assists in Friday's 3-2 victory against the Red Wings. The productive second line of Tavares, right wing William Nylander and left wing Tyler Bertuzzi combined for all three goals and eight points in the third period to give the Maple Leafs a winning start to the 2023 NHL Global Series in Sweden. Tavares has totaled seven goals and 12 assists through 16 games, while the veteran center is tied for second on the team in scoring with 19 points.

John Tavares Posts Two Assists Wednesday

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares helped to set up a pair of goals in Wednesday's 6-3 defeat to Ottawa. He had a power-play assist early in the game when William Nylander scored and collected an even-strength helper on Tyler Bertuzzi's third tally of the year. Tavares ended a mini-slump with the effort, as he had finished three consecutive games without a point before Wednesday's action. The recent bad run of form will have disappointed fantasy managers, but Tavares's overall start to the campaign has been solid, with the Maple Leafs captain having collected 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 13 games.

John Tavares Scores Lone Maple Leafs Goal In Monday's Loss

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares was the only player to beat Arvid Soderblom in Monday's clash with the Blackhawks, scoring his first goal of the season in a 4-1 defeat. The Maple Leafs captain tied the game with 5:14 played in the second period, but things simply didn't click for Toronto in the contest. Auston Matthews, who went scoreless with eight shots on goal Monday, has been in all the headlines to start the year, but Tavares has also quietly racked up the points. Following Monday's outing, the veteran star averages exactly two points per game through three appearances.

John Tavares Sees Great Potential In Matthew Knies

Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Matthew Knies has received big praise from team captain John Tavares. "Sky's the limit for him," Tavares said of Knies. "Really impressed with the way he came in." Knies joined the Maple Leafs late last season from the University of Minnesota. Together with the playoffs, he made only 10 appearances with the team, but Tavares has apparently seen enough to predict a big future for the Phoenix-born winger. "He's got great hands, great touch, great touches with the puck, make solid plays," Tavares added. "He's a huge home run for us. His potential's through the roof." Knies is definitely a player fantasy managers should keep their eye on, although he is facing a lot of competition for a top-six spot in Toronto.

John Tavares Sends Maple Leafs To Second Round of Playoffs

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares scored the game-winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 series-clinching overtime victory against the Lightning in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference first-round matchup. Tavares found the back of the net for the fourth time in the series as his shot deflected off of an opposing player from close range in the opening minutes of overtime. Tavares wrapped up the first-round series with four goals and seven points through six games against the Lightning, while the captain of the Maple Leafs will look to produce more points on the offensive end in the upcoming playoff series.

John Tavares Finishes Game 5 With Two Assists

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares jumped back on the score sheet in Thursday's Game 5 against Tampa Bay, ending a two-game run without a point with two assists in a 4-2 loss. Morgan Rielly and Auston Matthews scored the goals. Tavares was desperately trying to light the lamp himself as well, firing off a team-high five shots on goal. He added one hit to his tally in 19:19 of ice time. Tavares, who now boasts three goals and six assists for the series, had a good performance, but it wasn't enough and the Maple Leafs have now dropped 11 consecutive series-clinching games. They will match the league's all-time record if they also can't take down Tampa in Game 6 and Game 7.

John Tavares Celebrates A Hat Trick As Toronto Dominates Game 2

Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares rocked the Tampa Bay Lightning with a hat trick in Thursday's 7-2 win. He netted once in each period, wrapping up the hat trick with a power-play goal five minutes from the end of regulation. Tavares became only the fourth Maple Leafs player in 30 years with a postseason hat trick. Alexander Mogilny in 2003 was the last player to enjoy a three-goal game in the playoffs with Toronto. Tavares has previously struggled to produce in the postseason, but he's off to a great start this year, having also had an assist in Game 1.

John Tavares Scores Once In Toronto's Win

Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares came up clutch Monday, scoring in overtime with 21.3 seconds left to knock off the Florida Panthers 2-1. Tavares and his teammates snapped the Panther's six-game winning streak. In 79 regular season contests, the veteran centerman has scored 36 markers and collected 43 assists. He carries a minus-6 rating while scoring nine gaming-winning goals in the 2022-23 season. Going into the playoffs, Tavares must be on top of his game for the Maple Leafs to make a deep run.
