Matvei Michkov Looking "Lighter and Stronger" at Camp

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov is aiming to bounce back from a down year and has worked hard this offseason. According to Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet, Michkov looks "lighter and stronger skating" at training camp. Michkov has changed his diet and said he wants to "play better for the team." After collecting 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists) during his rookie campaign, Michkov managed only 51 points (20 goals, 31 assists) in 2025-26. He was a non-factor in the playoffs, contributing one assist and no goals in eight games. The Russian youngster will have lost some fans among fantasy managers after his poor year, but those who still have faith in his ability might be well rewarded in 2026-27.

Matvei Michkov Eyes Bounce-Back Season After Intensive Offseason Training

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov is determined to bounce back from a down year and has put in intensive work in the offseason. "There was no vacation at all, because an important season is ahead," Michkov told Daria Tuboltseva of RG. "I need to play well, I want that myself. So I need to keep my body in shape at all times." After a 63-point rookie campaign, Michkov barely cleared 50 points in his second year and ended up as a healthy scratch for a pair of postseason games. But with his talent and something to prove, Michkov could be an intriguing fantasy option next season.

Matvei Michkov Expected to Rejoin Flyers Lineup Wednesday

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov will re-enter the lineup on Wednesday in Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Jordan Hall of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. The young Russian star was a healthy scratch in Game 5. This surprised many, but Michkov hasn't been impactful in the playoffs. After a 51-point regular season, he hasn't scored any points in four postseason outings, recording only four SOG. So far, he has averaged just 10:05 of ice time in the first-round series. Michkov has the ability to be a difference-maker, and it will be interesting to see how he responds to being scratched in the previous game.

Matvei Michkov Set to Be Scratched for Game 5

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov wasn't part of the team's regular four forward lines during Sunday's practice, ESPN's Greg Wyshynski reports. This suggests the Russian talent will be a healthy scratch for Monday's Game 5 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. It would be an understandable decision by Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet, as Michkov has been ineffective in the series. He has gone scoreless in four games, with only four SOG and a minus-one rating. After averaging 14:50 of ice time during the regular season, Michkov has been limited to 10:05 in the playoffs. Alex Bump, who had nine points (five goals, four assists) in 17 regular-season games, is expected to replace Michkov in the lineup on Monday.

Matvei Michkov Expected to Play Thursday

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov (foot) is expected to be in the lineup on Thursday versus the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ashlyn Sullivan of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Due to a foot injury, Michkov was unavailable for the first time this season on Tuesday night against the Anaheim Ducks. Under a new coaching regime, Michkov has taken a step back in 2025-26. He has notched nine goals and 23 points in 40 appearances. The Russian talent has managed just one goal over his last 16 outings. Thursday's matchup is a good spot for Michkov to start turning things around, as the Maple Leafs allow an average of 3.29 goals per game.

Matvei Michkov a Game-Time Call Tuesday

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov (foot) is a game-time decision for Tuesday's tilt against the Anaheim Ducks. His status is uncertain after he injured his foot in Saturday's win over the Edmonton Oilers. Michkov missed Monday's practice. Still, he appears to be trending toward playing, as Michkov took part in the team's optional morning skate. After a good rookie campaign, Michkov has taken a step back in 2025-26, recording 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in 40 games. He has managed just one goal since the start of December.

Matvei Michkov Delivers Two Assists Wednesday

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov had his second multi-point performance in three games on Wednesday, finishing a 5-2 home win against the Buffalo Sabres with a pair of assists. He recorded a power-play helper on a Travis Konecny goal in the first period and had an even-strength assist when Owen Tippett capped off the scoring in the second. Recently, Michkov has enjoyed his best spell of the season, averaging a point per game over a five-game span. His role is expected to grow in the coming weeks, with Tyson Foerster (upper body) unavailable for at least a couple of months. Michkov has managed eight goals and 16 points in 26 games for the season.

Matvei Michkov Caps Off Rookie Campaign With Three-Point Effort

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov amassed three points in Thursday's season finale against the Buffalo Sabres, tallying two goals and an assist in a 5-4 loss. He got things started with a power-play goal in the first period. Michkov relied heavily on the power play to get points on the board early in his rookie campaign, but ultimately, only 17 of his 63 points came with the man advantage. The 20-year-old finished tied for second in points among rookies with San Jose's Macklin Celebrini, while Michkov led all first-year players with 26 goals. It was a solid debut season for the Russian, and there should be plenty more to come from Michkov in the future.

Matvei Michkov Continues Hot Stretch On Monday

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov tallied two assists during their 2-1 victory over the Nashville Predators on Monday evening, which extended his point streak to six games. In this contest, he tallied one secondary helper and primary, both during 5-on-5 play. During this six-game stretch, Michkov has found the back of the net four times and added seven helpers. However, Michkov has done most of the damage over his past three contests as he has scored four goals and added three assists. Through 74 total games in his rookie campaign, the former seventh overall selection has found the back of the net 24 times and added 34 helpers. He has averaged 2.4 shots on goal per game and tallied 15 of his points on the power play. He will look to stay hot on Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.

Matvei Michkov Scores Twice, Adds Assist On Thursday

Philadelphia Flyers rookie right wing Matvei Michkov scored two goals and added an assist during their victory on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens. Michkov opened the scoring in the first period on a wrist shot. Later in the frame, he added the primary helper on Sean Couturier's 13th goal of the season. Michkov concluded his evening with his second goal in the third period. This outing extended his current point streak to four games. During this stretch, Michkov has scored twice and added five helpers. Before this recent surge, the former No. 7 overall pick was riding a six-game scoreless streak. Throughout his debut campaign, Michkov has scored 22 goals and added 32 helpers, with 15 of his points coming on the power play. He remains a solid option in standard leagues as he plays on the top forward line.

Matvei Michkov Provides Three Assists On Thursday

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov finished Thursday's 7-5 loss to Florida with three assists. He produced all the helpers in the second frame, becoming the youngest player in franchise history with three-plus assists in a single period. The 19-year-old Russian had a power-play assist when Tyson Foerster scored and picked up two even-strength helpers on a pair of Owen Tippett strikes. Michkov has struggled to produce offense during even-strength play during his rookie campaign, but he's steadily improving in that regard. The skillful winger paces all first-year players with 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) through 24 appearances. He's recorded 10 points (four goals, six assists) on the power play.

Matvei Michkov Returns To Flyers Lineup Monday

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov is expected to return to the lineup on Monday versus San Jose. He has been a healthy scratch for the past two games. Sitting on 10 points (four goals, six assists) through his first 13 career appearances, Michkov is tied with Travis Konecny for the scoring lead on the Flyers roster, but he has struggled to make a positive impact during even-strength play. The 19-year-old has notched only three even-strength points and carries a minus-eight rating. Monday's matchup offers Michkov a good opportunity to improve his numbers, as the Sharks have allowed the sixth-most even-strength goals in the league this campaign.

Matvei Michkov Sits Out Second Consecutive Game

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov will be a healthy scratch for a second consecutive game on Saturday against Florida. The Russian forward featured in all 13 Flyers games this season before he was removed from the lineup on Thursday versus Tampa Bay. Michkov was named the Rookie of the Month for October and has notched 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his first 13 career games. However, he's done most of his scoring on the power play and is carrying a minus-eight rating, which is probably one of the reasons why Flyers head coach John Tortorella has sat Michkov. Anthony Richard entered the lineup as his replacement on Thursday.

Matvei Michkov Will Be A Healthy Scratch On Thursday

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov won't play on Thursday night. Nothing is wrong with Michkov, as head coach John Tortorella has simply decided to scratch the rookie phenom. It is an interesting choice, as the Flyers have struggled to score and Michkov has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 13 games to start his NHL career. The reasons for the benching aren't totally clear, as Tortz said it was "part of the process". Regardless, Michkov should be back in next game and hopefully won't be a healthy scratch much more this season. It is certainly annoying for fantasy managers, though.

Matvei Michkov Bags Two Points Wednesday

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov collected two points in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to Washington. The Flyers found themselves in a 4-0 hole in the second period, but Michkov's good work helped the team make it a one-goal game before a couple of empty-netters sealed the deal late in the third. Michkov became the first Flyers rookie since James van Riemsdyk in 2009-10 to notch at least seven points in his first seven career games. The 19-year-old boasts three goals and four assists with 14 shots on goal. However, Michkov also carries a minus-nine rating because he tends to do his damage on the power play. Both of his points came with the man advantage on Wednesday, and he has logged only one even-strength point so far.

Matvei Michkov Scores First Career Goals

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov potted his first two career goals in a 4-3 overtime defeat against Edmonton on Tuesday night. Michkov struck twice on the power play in the first period, giving Philadelphia a 2-0 lead. He finished with five total shots and had two blocks with one hit and a minus-one rating in 18:08 of ice time. The talented Russian winger boasts three points in three games to start his NHL career, having done all of the scoring with the mad advantage. It should be only a matter of time before Michkov also starts firing in even-strength situations, as he averages over 18 minutes per game as a member of the top line.
