Matvei Michkov Provides Three Assists On Thursday

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov finished Thursday's 7-5 loss to Florida with three assists. He produced all the helpers in the second frame, becoming the youngest player in franchise history with three-plus assists in a single period. The 19-year-old Russian had a power-play assist when Tyson Foerster scored and picked up two even-strength helpers on a pair of Owen Tippett strikes. Michkov has struggled to produce offense during even-strength play during his rookie campaign, but he's steadily improving in that regard. The skillful winger paces all first-year players with 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) through 24 appearances. He's recorded 10 points (four goals, six assists) on the power play.

The Russian forward featured in all 13 Flyers games this season before he was removed from the lineup on Thursday versus Tampa Bay. Michkov was named the Rookie of the Month for October and has notched 10 points (four goals, six assists) in his first 13 career games. However, he's done most of his scoring on the power play and is carrying a minus-eight rating, which is probably one of the reasons why Flyers head coach John Tortorella has sat Michkov. Anthony Richard entered the lineup as his replacement on Thursday.

Matvei Michkov Will Be A Healthy Scratch On Thursday

Philadelphia Flyers winger Matvei Michkov won't play on Thursday night. Nothing is wrong with Michkov, as head coach John Tortorella has simply decided to scratch the rookie phenom. It is an interesting choice, as the Flyers have struggled to score and Michkov has 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 13 games to start his NHL career. The reasons for the benching aren't totally clear, as Tortz said it was "part of the process". Regardless, Michkov should be back in next game and hopefully won't be a healthy scratch much more this season. It is certainly annoying for fantasy managers, though.

Matvei Michkov Bags Two Points Wednesday

Philadelphia Flyers right wing Matvei Michkov collected two points in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to Washington. The Flyers found themselves in a 4-0 hole in the second period, but Michkov's good work helped the team make it a one-goal game before a couple of empty-netters sealed the deal late in the third. Michkov became the first Flyers rookie since James van Riemsdyk in 2009-10 to notch at least seven points in his first seven career games. The 19-year-old boasts three goals and four assists with 14 shots on goal. However, Michkov also carries a minus-nine rating because he tends to do his damage on the power play. Both of his points came with the man advantage on Wednesday, and he has logged only one even-strength point so far.

Michkov struck twice on the power play in the first period, giving Philadelphia a 2-0 lead. He finished with five total shots and had two blocks with one hit and a minus-one rating in 18:08 of ice time. The talented Russian winger boasts three points in three games to start his NHL career, having done all of the scoring with the mad advantage. It should be only a matter of time before Michkov also starts firing in even-strength situations, as he averages over 18 minutes per game as a member of the top line.
