Washington Capitals defensemen Rasmus Sandin and Nick Jensen are both on track to return for Game 4 of the team's first-round series versus the New York Rangers on Sunday. Both defensemen have been sidelined by upper-body injuries and have yet to appear in the series. "On track to play tonight, so we'll see how the rest of the day goes. Looking optimistic," Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said after Sunday's morning skate. "It should help us a bunch. Two guys that have been in our lineup the majority of the year." Sandin hasn't played since April 7 while Jensen has been out since April 13. The Capitals need a win on Sunday to avoid elimination.

Nick Jensen Could Be Back In Action Friday
Washington Capitals defenseman Nick Jensen (upper body) skated in a regular jersey Friday morning and could return to the lineup for Friday's Game 3 against the Rangers. The 33-year-old had been out for four games with an upper-body injury. Jensen had the second-most blocks on the squad during the regular season (123) and finished with 14 points (one goal, 13 assists) across 78 games. He's yet to register any points through 26 career playoff appearances.

Nick Jensen, Rasmus Sandin Not Ready To Return
Washington Capitals defensemen Nick Jensen (upper body) and Rasmus Sandin (upper body) will remain out for Game 2 against the Rangers on Tuesday. Both players missed the end of the regular season with upper-body injuries and still need a bit more time to recover. Jensen misses a third consecutive game, and Sandin's absence stretches to six games. The injuries have left Washington very thin at the back. As a result, Lucas Johansen will make his Stanley Cup Playoffs debut on Tuesday. The younger brother of former All-Star Ryan Johansen has posted two points in nine regular-season appearances in the NHL.

Rasmus Sandin, Nick Jensen Possible For Game 1
Washington Capitals defensemen Rasmus Sandin and Nick Jensen both practiced in noncontact jerseys on Saturday and are possibilities for Game 1 of their first-round series against the top-seeded New York Rangers on Sunday. Both players have been sidelined with upper-body injuries and skated on their own on Thursday and Friday before joining the team for Saturday's session. "Trending in the right direction," bench boss Spencer Carbery said on Saturday. "Both practiced today and were a part of essentially everything we did on the ice, so it's a good step." Sandin notched three goals and 23 points in 21:07 of average ice time per game while Jensen tallied one goal and 14 points in 19:38 of ice time per game across 78 contests on the season.

Anthony Mantha, Nick Jensen Game-Time Decisions For Capitals Monday
Washington Capitals forward Anthony Mantha and defenseman Nick Jensen are both listed as game-time decisions for Monday's contest versus the visiting Ottawa Senators. Mantha departed Saturday's game against the Florida Panthers in the third period and did not return. Jensen left in the first period but returned in the second and finished his team's 3-2 overtime loss. "I think Mantha, good chance. Jensen, we'll see," Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery said. Mantha has recorded 18 goals and 29 points across 52 games, already surpassing the 11 goals and 27 points he put up last season. Jensen is without a goal with eight assists across 56 games on the season, blocking 85 shots in the process. He posted a career-best 29 points a season ago.

Nick Jensen A Game-Time Call Friday
Washington Capitals defenseman Nick Jensen (undisclosed) is considered a game-time call for Friday's game against St. Louis. He left Wednesday's meeting with Buffalo due to an undisclosed injury and it's not clear if Jensen can play versus the Blues. Gabriel Carlsson is set to be Jensen's replacement on the Washington blue line on Friday if the versatile defenseman hasn't been able to get himself game-ready. Carlsson has played in only three NHL games this season, posting two assists.

Nick Jensen Injured On Wednesday
Washington Capitals defenseman Nick Jensen sustained an undisclosed injury in Wednesday's matchup against Buffalo. He left in the third period after soaking in 17:15 of action. Jensen had three shots on goal in the contest with one block, one hit and two penalty minutes. The 32-year-old was playing in only his third game since returning from an upper-body injury, so he will be very frustrated if he has to sit on the sidelines again. The team has yet to prove an update on Jensen's status. The jack-of-all-trades defenseman has tallied 24 points, 89 shots, 94 hits and 113 blocks across 66 outings this season.

Martin Fehervary, Nick Jensen Injured On Wednesday
The Washington Capitals had to finish Wednesday's game against Anaheim with four defensemen after Martin Fehervary (lower body) and Nick Jensen (upper body) exited with injuries. Jensen too only three shits and left in the first period and Fehervary had to leave in the third. Despite being shorthanded, Washington showed great character by finding a way to win, collecting the two points with a 3-2 scoreline in overtime. Both Jensen and Fehervary have been great assets defensively for the Capitals, and the former has also made an impact on offense, registering 24 points across 63 games. Fehervary leads the team with 163 hits and has recorded 93 blocks. Rasmus Sandin couldn't make his debut Wednesday due to immigration issues, but he could be carrying a very big load straight away for his new team if Jensen and Fehervary are sidelined for the next games. They are considered day-to-day for now.
