Nikolaj Ehlers News
Winnipeg Jets left wing Nikolaj Ehlers (neck) was a full participant in Monday's practice and reportedly feels he's good to go for Wednesday's season opener. Ehlers missed the entire preseason while battling a neck injury, but the Jets will have him available when the regular season kicks off versus Calgary. The Danish winger skated with Cole Perfetti and Nino Niederreiter on Monday. He should be eager to make up for lost time after being limited to only 45 games in 2022-23. Despite missing nearly half a season, Ehlers was still the fifth-best scoring forward on the Jets roster, and he'll continue to be one of the team's main offensive threats in 2023-24.
Winnipeg Jets winger Nikolaj Ehlers was wearing a non-contact jersey in Thursday's on-ice session with the club's veterans, although head coach Rick Bowness said he expects the winger to play in Monday's exhibition game versus the Calgary Flames. The veteran has been dealing with a sore neck during training camp and it appears the club is merely being cautious at this point in camp. The 27-year-old has dealt with injuries each of the last three seasons but has been productive when healthy, notching 12 goals and 38 points on 132 shots across 45 games a season ago. Bowness also said center Cole Perfetti (upper-body) is expected to play in the club's final two preseason contests along with Ehlers.
Winnipeg Jets left wing Nikolaj Ehlers sat out Friday's practice with neck spasms and isn't expected to work on the ice on Saturday either. It's a bit of a blow for the Danish winger, who was forced to sit out almost half a season with health issues last term, but the good news is that head coach Rick Bowness doesn't expect this to be a lingering issue. Ehlers managed to skate in 45 games last season and hasn't hit over 71 outings since the 2017-18 campaign, so he's been quite injury-prone throughout his career. Hopefully, the neck issue clears up for him soon.
Winnipeg Jets winger Nikolaj Ehlers (upper body) could be back in the lineup for Thursday's elimination game against the Golden Knights. He joined the team for practice Wednesday and is officially regarded as a game-time call for the contest. Ehlers sat out the final regular-season game and hasn't yet appeared in the playoffs either. His addition would be huge for the team, with Mark Scheifele (upper body) getting knocked out of the lineup for Game 5. Ehlers worked with Vladislav Namestnikov and Nino Niederreiter in Wednesday's practice.
