Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Exits Preseason Game With Lower-Body Tweak

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) exited early from Saturday's 3-1 preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He was pulled a few minutes into the third period. Luukkonen had a solid performance, stopping 15 of 17 SOG. Colten Ellis finished the game in Luukkonen's place. Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said Luukkonen left due to a "lower-body tweak." This doesn't sound serious, but it's worth monitoring for fantasy managers, especially since Alex Lyon (upper body) is already unavailable. Ultimately, Ellis may get the nod to start the season in net for Buffalo.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Set to Start Game 7

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is expected to start Game 7 against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday, Lance Lysowski of Buffalo News reports. The Sabres are returning to the Finnish netminder after Alex Lyon allowed three goals on three SOG to start Game 6. Lyon took over the crease after Luukkonen struggled in Game 5, giving up five goals through two periods with a .783 save percentage. He played a perfect game in Lyon's relief on Saturday, stopping 18 pucks. Luukkonen has been leaky throughout the playoffs, but given Lyon's performance over the weekend, there's really no other option for the Sabres on Monday night. In five postseason appearances, Luukkonen has a 3-2 record, a 3.36 goals-against average, and a .875 save percentage.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to Start Game 4 Against Canadiens

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will start Game 4 against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. The Sabres started the postseason with Luukkonen as their No. 1, but Alex Lyon has been in the net in each of the last seven games. On Tuesday, Luukkonen will have a chance to re-establish himself as the starter after Lyon allowed nine goals in Games 2 and 3 against Montreal. The Finnish netminder has a 1-1 record this postseason, but he was limited to a .821 save percentage and a 4.19 goals-against average in Round 1 against Boston. Luukkonen has positive memories of facing Montreal in the regular season, finishing a 4-2 victory with 32 saves on Feb. 22.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Bags a Shutout in Vegas

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen recorded a 28-save shutout in Tuesday's 2-0 road win against the Vegas Golden Knights. The Finnish netminder played a key role in a tight contest, which featured a late first-period goal and an empty-netter inside the final minute of play. Buffalo established a new franchise record with an 11-game road point streak. Luukkonen, who picked up his first shutout of the season, appears to enjoy traveling, as he has won six consecutive road starts. Overall, he boasts a 16-8-2 record, a 2.60 goals-against average, and a .909 save percentage. Luukkonen has been splitting starts with Alex Lyon for several weeks, so he will likely skip Thursday's matchup with San Jose and return to work on Saturday against L.A.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Returns to Practice

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) was back at practice on Thursday, Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News reports. The Finnish netminder has been out since Jan. 27 due to a lower-body injury. It looks like Luukkonen could be ready to return when Buffalo continues its season on Feb. 25 against the New Jersey Devils. Luukkonen has done solid work for the team this season, posting an 11-7-2 record across 20 starts. He holds a 2.73 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Out for Olympics

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) will be unavailable for Team Finland at the 2026 Olympics, with Joonas Korpisalo of the Columbus Blue Jackets named as an injury replacement. Luukkonen will sit out his fourth consecutive game on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Colten Ellis is likely to start the contest after Alex Lyon beat the Florida Panthers 5-3 with 38 saves on Monday night. Lyon has won 11 of his 12 starts, giving Buffalo a red-hot option in the crease while Luukkonen is on the mend.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Expected to Miss a Week

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) will be out for a week, Michael Augello of The Hockey News reports. The Finnish netminder suffered a lower-body injury on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Luukkonen will be desperate to make a quick recovery, with his Olympic hopes on the line. If he can make it back in a week, Luukkonen could be available for selection for Buffalo's final game before the Olympics on Feb. 5 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Luukkonen has posted an 11-7-2 record in 2025-26, forming a great tandem with Alex Lyon, who set a new franchise record with a 10th consecutive victory on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Exits With Injury Tuesday

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) was forced to cut his night at the office short on Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Midway through the opening frame, Luukkonen suffered a lower-body injury while attempting to make a save. He had a rough start in the game, allowing two goals on five shots. Following Luukkonen's exit, Colten Ellis took over the crease, helping the team to a 7-4 victory with 16 saves. Even if Luukkonen misses time, Ellis will have to settle for a backup role due to Alex Lyon's presence. In his next start, Lyon has a chance to establish a new franchise record with a 10th consecutive win.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Out Week-to-Week

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) will likely be unavailable for opening night next week. The team has tagged Luukkonen as week-to-week after he suffered a lower-body injury in Wednesday's preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Luukkonen sat out the start of training camp with a separate lower-body problem and was playing his first preseason game on Wednesday night. With Luukkonen unavailable, the Sabres are set to start the season with a goalie tandem of Alex Lyon and Alexandar Georgiev. Lyon appears to be the likely starter, considering Georgiev's poor performance last season.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Practices on Thursday

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) practiced for the first time at training camp on Thursday. He will sit out Thursday's preseason clash against the Detroit Red Wings but said he "should be ready" for opening night against the New York Rangers on Oct. 9. Luukkonen has operated as Buffalo's No. 1 in recent years, but the team has built up a lot of depth behind him. Alex Lyon, Devon Levi, and Alexandar Georgiev all have NHL experience and will compete for playing time in 2025-26. Last season was challenging for Luukkonen, as he finished with a 24-24-5 record and posted underwhelming numbers with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Considered Day-to-Day

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (lower body) is considered day-to-day. Luukkonen reported to training camp with a minor injury, and it looks like it will take some time before he can fully participate in practice sessions. Buffalo signed Alexandar Georgiev to a one-year deal last week, in case Luukkonen's injury is more serious than initially feared. "There's no alarms right now saying that it's a significant injury [to Luukkonen]," Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams said Wednesday. "There was a tweak that he just didn't feel great. So, we just have to make sure that we protect ourselves." As Buffalo's starting goaltender, Luukkonen finished last season with a 24-24-5 record, allowing 3.20 goals with a .887 save percentage and two shutouts.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Dealing With a "Tweak"

The Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (undisclosed) is battling an injury ahead of training camp. Per Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic, Luukkonen is bothered by a "tweak." The injury seems minor, but the team is not taking any chances and signed Alexandar Georgiev for extra depth in goal. It was announced that Luukkonen's return timetable is unclear. Luukkonen's form declined last season, as he finished with a 24-24-5 record, a 3.20 goals-against average, a .887 save percentage, and two shutouts. Buffalo bolstered its goalie department by adding Alex Lyon during the summer, while highly-regarded prospect Devon Levi also remains an option to fill in for Luukkonen.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Starting on Thursday

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will get the starting nod on Thursday evening when the Sabres travel to Tampa Bay to face the Lightning. Luukkonen is carrying a two-game losing skid into this contest and will have an easy matchup facing a potent Tampa Bay offense. Over his last two games, Luukkonen has held a high 4.13 GAA with a .855 save percentage. However, before this two-game skid, the 25-year-old has held a solid 5-1 record with a .879 save percentage and a 3.11 GAA. During this span he allowed two goals or less in four of his games. Overall, Luukkonen has taken a slight step back this season compared to the 2.57 GAA and the .910 save percentage he held during the 2023 campaign. Given Buffalo's struggling defense and Luukkonen's inconsistency, he should not be targeted as a streaming option in shallow formats or an option in DFS competitions.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen A Game-Time Decision On Saturday

According to Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio, Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (undisclosed) is a game-time decision for Saturday's contest against the Nashville Predators. Luukkonen was unable to suit up in their previous contest on Tuesday evening but may only be facing a one-game absence. Hamilton noted that the goaltender "looked good" during Friday's practice and will continue to be monitored leading up to Saturday's game. Prior to his injury, Luukkonen was riding a three-game winning streak. The 25-year-old held a 2.67 GAA with a .902 percent SV during this stretch. Over his previous seven contests, Luukkonen has carried a .903 percent SV with a 2.74 GAA. If he is able to play, Luukkonen is a viable option in DFS formats facing the Predators.

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (undisclosed) will miss Monday's matchup against Seattle. He's battling some nagging injury issues. However, Luukkonen's absence might be limited to just one game, as he said on Sunday that he could play on Tuesday against Vancouver. Luukkonen has had a mediocre campaign as Buffalo's No. 1, going 14-14-4. He has registered a 3.02 goals-against average with a .896 save percentage and two shutouts. Devon Levi, who is 2-6-0 for the season, is expected to work in the Sabres crease on Monday.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Shuts The Door On Thursday

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped all 35 shots he faced en route to defeating the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. The Sabres were heavily out-shot in this contest, but the 25-year-old was able to lead the way. This was his second shutout of the season. This was a much-needed bounce-back performance for the young netminder, as he has allowed at least three goals in each of his previous three starts. During this stretch, he allowed a high of six goals to the Colorado Avalanche. Before that stretch, he allowed two goals or less in the previous three. Overall, Luukkonen sits with a 13-12-4 record and, a 2.95 GAA and a .898 SV%. Luukkonen will look to stay hot Saturday afternoon against the Seattle Kraken.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Unavailable Thursday

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (undisclosed) will not dress for Thursday's tilt against St. Louis. He's been dealing with an undisclosed injury since Sunday. Luukkonen was able to play against Montreal on Monday but struggled in the contest and will be kept out of the lineup versus the Blues. Devon Levi will be in the net, with new waiver addition James Reimer working as the backup. It's not been a fun campaign for Levi, who sits on a 1-4-0 record and has allowed 4.10 goals with a .866 save percentage. However, he is expected to improve his record on Thursday, as the bookmakers have listed Buffalo as a -159 favorite for the game.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen Stays In Buffalo With Five-Year Deal

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has signed a long-term extension with the team, agreeing to a five-year, $23.75 million deal. The Finnish netminder was a restricted free agent and was set for salary arbitration in a couple of weeks' time. Luukkonen is coming off a stellar campaign, which saw him go 27-22-4 in 51 starts. The Sabres once again missed the playoffs and continued to leak goals, but Luukkonen finished with a solid 2.57 goals-against average and had five shutouts with a .910 save percentage. Only four goaltenders in the league shut out the opposition more times than Luukkonen in 2023-24. The 25-year-old has set himself a pretty high bar for the upcoming campaign, but the contract extension suggests that the team fully believes that Luukkonen can deliver the goods.
