Adrian Del Castillo News

Adrian Del Castillo Recalled to Major Leagues

The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially recalled catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo prior to their contest on Friday evening against the St. Louis Cardinals. In a corresponding move, the Diamondbacks shifted starting catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) to the 60-day injured list. Del Castillo made his MLB debut last season and looked quite comfortable during his first stint. Through 25 games in the desert, the 25-year-old catcher posted a stellar .313/.368/.525 slash line with five doubles, four home runs, and a 28:7 K:BB. Del Castillo dealt with injuries during the first half but was very productive when on the field. Through 14 games with Triple-A Reno, the catcher posted a .945 OPS with four home runs. Given his power upside, he is worth adding in all two-catcher leagues.

Adrian Del Castillo has Locker in MLB Clubhouse

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo was participating in optional workouts at Chase Field and has a locker in the clubhouse. This suggests that the young backstop will likely join the team officially on Friday when they begin a series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Del Castillo made his MLB debut last season but has spent the entire 2025 campaign in the minor leagues. He has also dealt with numerous injuries, having appeared in only 28 total minor league games. However, when on the diamond, he has been very effective. Through 14 games with the Reno Aces, Del Castillo has posted a .288/.386/.559 with a .945 OPS. During his first look in the big leagues, Del Castillo held his own, posting a .313/.368/.525 line with five doubles and four home runs. He is worth a look in all two-catcher leagues given his upside bat.

Adrian Del Castillo Homers Twice, Drives in Six

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo had a big day at the plate on Sunday for Triple-A Reno, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. The D-backs' sixth-ranked prospect came off of the IL at the beginning of July after missing a couple of weeks with a back injury, but also got a late start to the season as a result of a shoulder injury suffered in the spring, so has logged just 14 games in Reno thus far in 2025. The 25-year-old is hitting .288 with four home runs during his limited action, and his OBP comes in at .386 thanks to a strong 14.3 percent walk rate. The left-handed hitting backstop made his MLB debut last year with solid results, slashing .313/.368/.525 with four home runs, 19 RBI, and 12 runs scored in 25 games, although a 32.2 percent strikeout rate could limit his upside. Either way, Gabriel Moreno is nearing a return, but if another opportunity opens up with the big league club, expect Del Castillo to be given another shot, and he could be a worthwhile add in deeper leagues given his batting average, power, and RBI potential.

Adrian Del Castillo Set to Begin Rehab Assignment

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo (back) was sent to the Arizona Complex League to begin his rehab assignment. Del Castillo was placed on the 7-day IL with a back injury earlier in June. This is an excellent sign as the young backstop appears to be on track to make a quick return. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as he could return to Triple-A Reno as early as next week. Last season, the No. 6-ranked prospect in the system made his MLB debut and performed quite well during his first taste of the majors, posting an elite .313/.368/.525 slash line with five doubles and four long balls. With Gabriel Moreno (finger) on the IL in the majors as well, Del Castillo could push for a promotion early in the second half once cleared to return to action.

Adrian Del Castillo Hits 7-Day Injured List

The Arizona Diamondbacks placed catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo (back) on the 7-day injured list due to lower back discomfort. Jack Sommers of Sports Illustrated noted that the injury is not expected to be serious and the team is hoping he is only sidelined for a short period. Del Castillo has already had a stint on the injured list earlier this season due to a shoulder injury. However, when on the field, Del Castillo has been quite productive, posting a .305/.442/.678 slash line with three doubles and five home runs. Through five games with Triple-A Reno, Del Castillo posted a .294 AVG. The young catcher made his MLB debut last season and performed quite well, holding a .313/.368/.525 line with four round-trippers. If Del Castillo can overcome this injury, he will likely be in the mix to return to Arizona in the second half.

Adrian Del Castillo Hits Home Run in Return to Triple-A

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo went 2-for-5 with a home run in his first game off the Triple-A injured list on Tuesday. The young backstop has been dealing with a shoulder injury since the end of March. He recently began a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League, where he posted a .310/.434.,690 slash line across 12 contests. However, in his first game off the IL with Reno, he would launch his fourth long ball of the season. Last summer, Del Castillo spent most of his season with Triple-A and even earned a taste of the majors. With Triple-A, Del Castillo held a strong .312/.399/.603 slash line with 26 round-trippers. In 25 games with the Diamondbacks, the No. 6-ranked prospect in the system held a .313/.368/.525 line with four home runs. He should be in the mix to return to the majors in the coming weeks.

Adrian Del Castillo Begins Rehab Assignment

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo (shoulder) recently began his rehab assignment with Arizona's ACL affiliate. Across two games, the young backstop has posted a .500/.667/1.333 slash line with a triple and a home run. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production as he could be in the mix to move his rehab assignment to another level if he does not face any setbacks. Last season, the 25-year-old made his MLB debut and performed quite well during his first taste, holding a .313/.368/.525 slash line with four long balls across 25 contests. Across 142 career games with Triple-A Reno, the No. 6-ranked prospect in the system has posted a .296/.384/.540 slash line with 42 doubles and 28 home runs. If he performs well in his rehab assignment, he could push for an early return to Arizona.

Adrian Del Castillo Begins Throwing Program

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo (shoulder) recently began his throwing program. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the coming weeks. The backstop is currently considered the No. 6 prospect in the Arizona system. Del Castillo made his MLB debut last season and performed quite well, posting a .313/.368/.526 slash line across 25 games. He went deep four times, added five doubles, and tallied 19 RBI. Before reaching the majors, Del Castillo spent his 2024 season with the Reno Aces, where he performed at an elite level, posting a .312/.399/.603 slash line across 105 games. When Del Castillo is cleared to return to action, he should push for an early return to the big leagues.

Adrian Del Castillo Placed On 7-Day Injured List

Arizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo (shoulder) was placed on the 7-day injured list with a shoulder injury. Fantasy managers should monitor his status, but should expect him to miss at least a few weeks of action at Triple-A. Del Castillo received a brief taste of the majors last season and performed quite well. He posted an elite .313/.368/.526 slash line with five doubles and four long balls. During this brief stint, he generated a strong 11.5 percent barrel rate but generated a weak .215 xBA, which suggests he could face some regression when he returns to the big leagues. When he returns to action at Triple-A, fantasy managers should monitor his production at the top level of the minor leagues, as he should see time in the majors later in the summer.

Adrian Del Castillo Optioned To Triple-A

The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo to Triple-A Reno. Del Castillo was competing for the No. 2 catching role behind Gabriel Moreno. However, the team will instead have him continue his development at the top level of the minor leagues. Last summer, the 25-year-old made his MLB debut and posted an impressive .313/.368/.525 slash line across 25 games. During this stint, he tallied five doubles and went deep four times. He added 19 RBI and held a 7:28 BB:K. He flashed a similar upside with Triple-A Reno last season as he posted a .312/.399/.603 line with 36 doubles and 26 long balls. With Del Castillo opening the season at Triple-A, fantasy managers should expect Jose Herrera and Rene Pinto to continue to compete for the No. 2 catching job. Del Castillo is monitoring in NL-only leagues as he carries high power upside.
