Andy Pages Benched in Game 5, Alex Call Staring in Left Field

Los Angeles Dodgers struggling outfielder Andy Pages will retreat to the bench in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday night against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays and rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage. Enrique Hernandez will make the start in center field and will hit eighth, with Alex Call starting in left field and batting in the nine-hole. Catcher Will Smith will move up to No. 2 in the batting order. Pages may not start another game in the Fall Classic after going just 4-for-50 with 11 strikeouts and no walks in 14 games during this year's playoffs. Call has appeared in six games this October with L.A. and has gone 4-for-9 with two walks and a strikeout in his first 12 playoff plate appearances. Call will have very little DFS appeal at the bottom of the batting order against an up-and-coming young pitcher whom he has never faced.

Alex Call Out With Back Injury

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Alex Call (back) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Cincinnati Reds due to a lower-back injury, according to manager Dave Roberts. Call has really only been starting for a loaded Dodgers team when they face a left-handed pitcher like on Wednesday night versus Nick Lodolo, but he's resting up due to a back injury. Michael Conforto will get the nod in left field instead and will bat sixth for the Blue as they go for the three-game sweep. Call's fantasy value has taken a hit since being traded from the Washington Nationals to the Dodgers at this year's trade deadline. He's hitting .275 (64-for-233) on the season, but with only four home runs and 29 RBI in 91 total games. Since coming to the Dodgers, he's gone 10-for-36 (.278) with a homer, three RBI and one steal in 19 games.

Alex Call Traded to Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired outfielder Alex Call from the Washington Nationals for right-hander Sean Paul Linan and righty Eriq Swan. The Dodgers are adding another versatile player in the 30-year-old Call, who has at least 85 games of experience at all three outfield positions. The right-handed Call is also a capable hitter, particularly against southpaws. Call has slashed .274/.371/.386 with three homers, 26 RBI, 30 runs scored, and a stolen base across 237 plate appearances this year. He has a .314/.359/.443 line versus lefties. While Call looks like a nice bench pickup for the Dodgers, he doesn't move the needle from a fantasy perspective.

Alex Call on the Bench Again

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call is on the bench again on Wednesday against the visiting Colorado Rockies at Nationals Park. He'll take a seat again in favor of rookie Daylen Lile, who is starting in right field and batting seventh against Rockies right-hander German Marquez. At least for the time being, the Nationals are choosing to sit Call over Lile after recalling the prospect earlier this week from Triple-A Rochester. The 22-year-old Lile has so far struggled at the plate in his first 13 big-league games in 2025, going 7-for-39 (.179) with a homer, three doubles, a triple, three RBI, five runs and eight strikeouts in 44 plate appearances. Meanwhile, Call has slashed .276/.379/.393 with a .772 OPS in his 145 at-bats. The 30-year-old Call is the odd man out for now, but that could change quickly if Lile continues to struggle.

Alex Call Retreats to the Bench

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call is not in the team's starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the visiting Colorado Rockies. With Call resting, outfield prospect Daylen Lile will start in right field and bat seventh against Rockies right-hander Antonio Senzatela. Call will sit down after starting each of the team's last 12 games. The 30-year-old is currently in the midst of a four-game hitting streak and is hitting an even .300 (12-for-40) with two home runs, a double and three RBI in 12 games in the month of June. However, with Lile back in the big leagues, it's possible that call will find himself on the bench more going forward. He's hitting a respectable .276 (40-for-145) but with just two homers, 17 RBI and 22 runs scored. Lile is looking to get going in his 13th MLB game after starting off hitting .206 (7-for-34) with a homer and three RBI.

Alex Call Out Against Pirates

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call is getting the day off on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Jacob Young will replace him in center field and will bat ninth against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Although Call has yet to go deep in 2025, it's been an impressive start to the 2025 season for the 30-year-old, as he's gone 11-for-34 (.324) with two doubles, a triple, seven RBI, a stolen base, six runs scored, 10 walks and only two strikeouts in 11 games played for the Nats. Young enters Tuesday's game in Pittsburgh with a .250 average (7-for-28) with no homers, a double, one RBI, one stolen base, six walks and two strikeouts in 13 games played. Batting out of the nine-hole, fantasy managers setting DFS lineups will want to ignore Young in this one. He's gone hitless in just two career at-bats against Keller.

Nationals Hoping Alex Call Can Play Again This Year

The plan is for Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call (foot) to go on a quick minor-league rehab assignment soon so that he can play in the majors before the end of the regular season at the end of the month. The Nationals put Call on the 10-day injured list at the end of August with a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot. The fact that the 29-year-old even has a chance to return before the end of the 2024 season is a bit of a surprise. Call hit .200 (75-for-375) with eight home runs in his first full big-league season in 2023 in D.C. In only 30 games this year, he's been much better with a .343/.425/.525 slash line, a career-best .950 OPS, three homers, 14 RBI and five steals. Even before outfield prospects James Wood and Dylan Crews reached the big leagues, Call was mainly considered a fourth-outfielder type with a better glove than bat.

Alex Call Carted Off With Apparent Leg Injury

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call (leg) was carted off during Friday night's game against the Atlanta Braves. Call was charging in on a shallow fly ball and fell onto the ground after a non-contact injury during the bottom of the second inning. The 29-year-old wasn't able to stand on his foot and was hopping to get to the cart. Call was replaced by Joey Gallo in right field after the injury. The team hasn't stated the severity of his injury and until then he should be considered day-to-day, however it should be anticipated he will miss more time given this was a non-contact injury. The righty had been having a fantastic 2024 season, hitting for a 175 OPS+ in 98 AB with most of his playing time coming in August after spending most of the year in the minors. Jacob Young should be a likely replacement for Call in the outfield, though Young is not a viable fantasy option in any format at this time.

Alex Call Getting A Rest Tuesday

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call is out of the lineup for Tuesday's contest against Tony Gonsolin and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Call has been cold all season with the bat, hitting .209 with three home runs and three steals across 52 games. Instead, Ildemaro Vargas will see time in left and bat ninth. Through 16 games, the 31-year-old has been on a tear, slashing .317/.333/.488 while going deep once. However, Vargas is a career .249 hitter with a .659 OPS, so fantasy managers might want to look elsewhere on the waiver wire.

Alex Call Walks It Off On Thursday

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call sparked a walk-off homer in the ninth inning to take down the Chicago Cubs by a 4-3 margin on Thursday. Cubs' reliever Brad Boxberger threw just one pitch that resulted in a 364-foot bomb off Call's bat. The 28-year-old fared 1-for-4 on Thursday and launched his third homer of the season. Call is slashing .230/.331/.350 with a .681 OPS this season. He has shown improvements at the plate over the past 15 games as demonstrated by his .250 AVG in that span. The Minnesota native also owns displays impressive discipline numbers, with an 18.6% strikeout rate, and 12.7% walk rate. The Nats travel to Arizona for a weekend series as Call looks to build on his electrifying moment.
