Edwin Diaz Feels Good, "100 Percent Confident" he'll be Full Strength in Second Half

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed closer Edwin Diaz (elbow), who is on the 15-day injured list after having surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow, said that he feels "really good" and is "100% confident" that he will be back to full strength for the second half of the 2026 season, according to Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register. Diaz won't start a throwing program until after his stitches are removed in a couple of weeks. His injury was a disappointment for the organization after they signed Diaz to a three-year, $69 million contract in the offseason, the highest average annual value ever given to a reliever. The 32-year-old reliever needs to be stashed in all fantasy formats for the rest of the first half of the year, as Diaz could be a difference-maker down the stretch for a Dodgers team looking to win their third straight World Series championship. In the meantime, the Dodgers will continue to go with a committee approach in the ninth inning, which includes lefties Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia, and right-hander Blake Treinen.

Dodgers Not Naming Primary Closer With Edwin Diaz Injured

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed star closer Edwin Diaz (elbow) on the 15-day injured list on Monday, and he's expected to miss around three months after he has surgery on his right elbow to remove loose bodies. Manager Dave Roberts declined to name a set closer in Diaz's absence, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. It helps explain why the 32-year-old All-Star's velocity has been down early in his first year in L.A. Diaz appeared in Sunday's loss to the Rockies for the first time since April 10, and he allowed three earned runs without even recording an out. After complaining of right-elbow issues after the game, the Dodgers sent him for an MRI exam, which revealed the loose bodies in his arm. Fantasy managers need to keep Diaz stashed everywhere for a second-half run. In the meantime, left-hander Tanner Scott is likely to get the first crack at save chances for the Dodgers, despite his rough 2025 campaign. In addition to Scott, lefty Alex Vesia and righty Blake Treinen could mix in to form a closer-by-committee situation.

Edwin Diaz Expected to Miss Around Three Months

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed closer Edwin Diaz (elbow) will have surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow, a source told Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. Diaz is expected to miss in the neighborhood of three months. The Dodgers officially placed the 32-year-old veteran on the 15-day injured list on Monday after Diaz appeared on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies for the first time since April 10. He proceeded to allow three runs and a walk without recording an out while also seeing his velocity dip again. Now we know why. Barring a setback after he goes under the knife, Diaz won't return to the Dodgers' bullpen until late June or early July. Despite the injury, the All-Star closer should be stashed in all fantasy baseball leagues while he recovers. In the meantime, lefties Tanner Scott and Alex Vesia and righty Blake Treinen could all mix and match for save opportunities in L.A. Although Scott struggled for the team in 2025, he had a career-high 23 saves and has locked down 78 games in his nine-plus-year career.

Edwin Diaz Placed on 15-Day Injured List with Elbow Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed closer Edwin Diaz (elbow) on the 15-day injured list with loose bodies in his right elbow. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers are promoting Jake Eder from Oklahoma City. Diaz was dealing with velocity concerns over the past two weeks and will now miss at least the next 15 days on the injured list. In his most recent outing on Sunday, Diaz failed to record an out as he surrendered three hits, three runs, and a walk to the Colorado Rockies. In this appearance, Diaz's fastball sat at 95.4 mph compared to the 97.3 mph it averaged last summer. While Diaz was enjoying a strong start to his Dodger career, earning four saves over his first five appearances with a 1.80 ERA, the right-hander is now in serious danger of missing extended time. While he remains sidelined, Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott figure to see the bulk of the save opportunities, with Vesia projected to operate as the lead option, given his recent usage.

Edwin Diaz Implodes in Brief Outing, Velocity Remains Serious Concern

Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Edwin Diaz continues to struggle thus far in 2026, following an outing on Sunday where he allowed three earned runs on three hits and walked one without recording a single out against the Colorado Rockies. His velocity remains down compared to last season (95.7 mph compared to 97.2 mph in 2025). In addition, his walk rate is up (15.2 percent compared to 8.7 percent in his career), and his strikeout rate is way down (30.3 percent compared to 39.7 percent in his career). Both of those marks would be career-worst for Diaz. On the season, Diaz has converted four of his five save opportunities, but owns a 10.50 ERA and 2.33 WHIP across seven appearances. Alex Vesia has converted both of his save opportunities, and if Diaz continues to stumble, they may turn to Vesia in the short term. It's still likely the Dodgers' long-term plans are to have Diaz close games, which is evident by his three-year, $69 million contract; however, fantasy managers have the right to be concerned about his performance, especially when most signs point towards the regression being understandable with the decrease in control and velocity.

Dodgers Monitoring Edwin Diaz's Velocity

The Los Angeles Dodgers are monitoring closer Edwin Diaz's velocity, manager Dave Roberts told Jack Harris of The California Post. While Roberts said that Diaz was unavailable on Saturday because he had pitched on Friday, the manager also noted that the team would be keeping a close eye on the reliever's velocity going forward. His fastball averaged 96.3 mph over his first five outings this season, and that number dropped to 94.7 mph on Friday. Both of those numbers are concerning, given that his previous career-low average fastball velocity was 97.4 mph (2025). Diaz has now allowed four earned runs over six innings of work this year, but it's been a small sample size and he still has four saves, which is tied for fourth-most in MLB. Diaz ranks #2 among relievers in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings.

Edwin Diaz Punches Out Three en Route to Fourth Save

Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz picked up his fourth save of the season on Tuesday in a 4-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Diaz allowed a hit and a walk but minimized damage with his elite swing-and-miss stuff, striking out three to close out the game. In his first year in Los Angeles, Diaz has not lost his dominance, recording eight strikeouts in five innings while posting a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. The closer role is firmly his, and he will continue to receive consistent save opportunities. Diaz should remain one of the most reliable late-inning options in the MLB as the Dodgers push for another World Series run.

Edwin Diaz Sharp in First Save Opportunity with the Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz converted his first save chance with his new team on Friday night in the Dodgers' 5-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Diaz allowed a walk but struck out two without allowing a hit in a scoreless ninth inning. The 32-year-old signed a three-year, $69 million contract with Los Angeles this past winter after a six-season run with the New York Mets. Across 66 1/3 innings with New York in 2025, Diaz recorded a 1.63 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP with 98 strikeouts, six wins, and 28 saves. He's recorded a strikeout rate of at least 38% in six out of the last seven seasons where he's pitched. When healthy, Diaz is arguably the best closer in baseball and should get plenty of save chances while pitching for the Dodgers in 2026.

Edwin Diaz to Pitch for Puerto Rico in World Baseball Classic

Los Angeles Dodgers star closer Edwin Diaz will pitch for Puerto Rico in this year's World Baseball Classic, three years after he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the tournament, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. Diaz tore the patellar tendon in his right knee while celebrating a victory back in 2023 over the Dominican Republic. He signed a three-year, $69 million contract with the Dodgers as a free agent this offseason and will enter 2026 as one of the top closers off the board in fantasy baseball drafts. Since 2018, Diaz has 201 saves, which is fourth-most in the majors. The 31-year-old veteran converted 28 of his 31 save chances and had a sharp 1.63 ERA with 98 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings last year for the New York Mets. As one of the most dominant closers in the game with the back-to-back World Series-champion Dodgers, the sky is the limit for Diaz in 2026.

Braves Attempted to Sign Edwin Diaz?

The Atlanta Braves made a five-year proposal to reliever Edwin Diaz before he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency, according to Jorge Castillo of ESPN. Castillo went on to say that none of the financial information was leaked, but the Braves were serious about landing the star closer. Ultimately, Diaz signed with the Dodgers, while the Braves signed Robert Suarez and brought back Raisel Iglesias. Most notably, Iglesias will start as the primary closer in Atlanta, but if he falters, Suarez will be right there to take his job.
