Blake Treinen Finishes Off Bullpen Game To Send Dodgers To World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen recorded the final six outs of Game 6 of the NLCS, earning the save in a 10-5 win over the New York Mets. The 36-year-old allowed one run on two hits while striking out four. Treinen was the seventh Dodgers reliever used in this one, as manager Dave Roberts elected to go with a bullpen game. It wasn't pretty, as five of the seven allowed a run, but they got the job done. As for Treinen, the run he allowed in this one was the first he has given up in eight postseason innings. Los Angeles will need him to continue that form against the New York Yankees in what should be an entertaining World Series.

Dodgers Activate Blake Treinen From Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated relief pitcher Blake Treinen (hip) and optioned right-hander Ben Casparius to the minor leagues ahead of Wednesday's game against the visiting Seattle Mariners at Dodger Stadium. Treinen is back to help LA's bullpen after a rehab outing and a brief stint on the injured list due to left hip discomfort. The 36-year-old veteran right-hander holds a solid 2.67 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and nine walks over 30 1/3 innings this season, but he's converted just one of his five save opportunities while picking up nine holds. Even with the Dodgers appearing to sport a three-man committee at closer amongst Michael Kopech, Daniel Hudson, and Evan Phillips at the moment, Treinen is still likely to handle his fair share of high-leverage work.

Blake Treinen Makes Rehab Appearance

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Blake Treinen (hip) made a minor-league rehab appearance with Double-A Tulsa on Saturday and tossed a scoreless inning, walking none, striking out the side and not allowing a hit. Treinen appears to be on track to come off the 15-day injured list on the first day he's eligible on Tuesday after the dominant rehab outing over the weekend. The 36-year-old veteran is recovering from left-hip discomfort but should be back in the big-league bullpen this week. It's looking like trade acquisition Michael Kopech is taking over the closing duties in LA, but Treinen will return to a high-leverage, late-inning setup role when he's activated off the IL. In 34 appearances out of the bullpen in 2024, Treinen has been solid, posting a 2.67 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, one save, 38 strikeouts and nine walks in 30 1/3 innings pitched.

Blake Treinen Going On Injured List, Brusdar Graterol Activated

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen (hip) is going on the injured list ahead of Monday's series opener against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies with left hip discomfort, and Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) was activated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move. Treinen holds a solid 2.67 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and nine walks over 30 1/3 innings for the Dodgers this season, but he's converted just one of his five save opportunities while collecting nine holds. Despite stopper Evan Phillips' struggles, the 36-year-old veteran right-hander hasn't been able to stake a real claim as a potential closing option. Graterol's first appearance will mark his 2024 season debut, and he will offer LA's bullpen a replacement arm after his long bout of shoulder inflammation. Last year, the 25-year-old right-hander produced a 1.20 ERA and 0.97 WHIP to go with a 48:10 K:BB and seven saves over 67 1/3 frames.

Blake Treinen Closing In On Return

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen (lung) was used as the opener in Triple-A Oklahoma City's game on Thursday, throwing a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Treinen has looked good in his past two appearances, allowing just one hit and accumulating three strikeouts and zero walks. With five rehab appearances under his belt, he might be ready to make his 2024 season debut soon for the Dodgers after bruising his lung early in Spring Training. The veteran will be a welcome addition to the Dodgers bullpen and should see a decent share of work late in close games, making him a solid add in saves-plus-holds leagues.

Blake Treinen Starting Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Blake Treinen (lung) is starting a rehab assignment this week, and he will need three or four outings before he's ready to return to the major-league roster. On the mend from a bruised lung that he sustained on March 9, Treinen should be back to help LA's bullpen by the beginning of May. The 35-year-old veteran right-hander missed most of the 2022 campaign and all of last season following shoulder surgery, and while he'll be in line for the occasional save opportunity based on closer Evan Phillips' availability, Treinen's fantasy value will be more pronounced in leagues that count holds. With right-handers Joe Kelly and Ryan Brasier struggling to begin to 2024 regular season, look for Treinen to become the Dodgers' primary righty setup man before long. In his last full season during 2021, Treinen posted a 1.99 ERA (2.88 FIP), 0.98 WHIP, and 85:25 K:BB over 72 2/3 innings.

Blake Treinen "Weeks" Away From Returning

Los Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Blake Treinen (chest) is still "weeks" away from returning to the team. He has been throwing but needs to build all the way back up after missing so much time at this point. The 35-year-old veteran reliever bruised his lung when he was hit in the chest by a comebacker during spring training, but he was able to start a throwing program a week ago. The Dodgers aren't going to rush Treinen back, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he doesn't make his 2024 debut out of the team's bullpen until early May. In addition to his injury this spring, Treinen missed all of 2023 while recovering from shoulder surgery in November of 2022. Injuries have become a problem, but he can still have value in deep holds leagues for his experience in high-leverage spots when he's healthy.

Brusdar Graterol, Blake Treinen "A Ways Away" From Returning

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that relief pitchers Brusdar Graterol (shoulder) and Blake Treinen (lung) are "a ways away" from returning from the injured list. Both players are playing catch but have yet to start throwing bullpen sessions. Graterol is dealing with right-shoulder inflammation, while Treinen suffered a bruised lung when he was hit by a comebacker in the chest in spring training in early March. Both relievers are unlikely to be available for the Dodgers' bullpen until probably late April. Until they are able to return, Joe Kelly and Ryan Brasier will be counted on more in late-inning setup roles ahead of closer Evan Phillips.

Dodgers Put Blake Treinen On Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Blake Treinen (lung) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday due to a bruised lung. In a corresponding move, Landon Knack was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 35-year-old veteran reliever missed all of 2023 as well after having right-shoulder surgery in November of 2022. Treinen should be able to make his 2024 debut in April after a minimum stay on the injured list, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to stay healthy the rest of the year. When he's healthy, the Dodgers like using Treinen in high-leverage situations out of their bullpen, but he's only going to be worth a look in deeper holds leagues since he's probably not going to see many save chances, if any. In 72 appearances in 2022, Treinen was great with a 1.99 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP, seven saves and 85 K's in 72 1/3 innings.

Blake Treinen, Daniel Hudson On Track To Be Ready

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that relievers Blake Treinen (shoulder), Daniel Hudson (knee) and J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) are all tracking to be on the active roster to kick off the season in a two-game series against the division-rival San Diego Padres in Korea. Roberts said Hudson is still working through some execution stuff after missing close to two seasons due to injuries. The 36-year-old Hudson made just three appearances in 2023 and will give them veteran depth in the bullpen, but he's not on the fantasy radar. Neither is Treinen, 35, who made five appearances in 2022 and three rehab outings in 2023 after having shoulder surgery. He's going to need to prove himself before he's given a high-leverage role in the 'pen again.
