However, interim manager Miguel Cairo downplayed the severity of the injury and said that Abrams will be available to pinch-hit on Sunday. The 24-year-old has played 138 games this season and slashed .261/.321/.438 with 18 homers, 58 RBI, 89 runs scored, and 31 stolen bases in 609 plate appearances. Abrams did the majority of his damage before the All-Star break, though, as he has hit just .224/.273/.373 with six HRs, 20 RBI, and 11 steals in the second half of the season.

Abrams picked up his third triple of the season -- and first in two months -- in the eleventh inning off Angels pitcher Connor Brogdon to score teammates Daylen Lile and Drew Millas and make it 7-4 Nats. He also notched another run batted in on a double in the seventh. The 24-year-old has been spectacular in June, sporting a .308/.368/.505 triple slash with four homers, eight steals, 20 runs scored, and 12 RBI. It's raised his overall average to a strong .287, which would be his best by 40 points if it holds.

The 24-year-old has actually been much better on the road than at home this year, which sets him up well for the rest of this series in San Diego and the Nats' upcoming weekend set in Anaheim against the Angels.

He's added eight homers and 11 stolen bases in 203 at-bats. Nunez has never faced Latz and should be avoided in DFS.

He's one of the few players in the game who has legitimate 20 home run and 40 stolen base upside.

Abrams is eligible to return from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday, but he won't be ready to return to face the Baltimore Orioles just yet this week. However, if the 24-year-old shortstop looks good in a game or two in the minors, he could be back by Thursday's series finale against the O's. He's trying to recover from a minor right hip-flexor strain. When the former first-rounder returns to the Nats lineup, he'll be carrying a .244/.289/.583 slash line, .874 OPS, four home runs, seven RBI, four stolen bases and six runs scored in his first 41 at-bats of 2025. With Abrams on the shelf, Washington has been using Nasim Nunez as their fill-in at the 6, but he's gone just 4-for-22 in limited action with no homers, two RBI and two steals.
