Clarke Schmidt Fantasy Stats

According to Gary Phillips, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt (elbow) will make one final rehab appearance on Saturday before rejoining the team. Assuming everything goes well, Schmidt will be back in the Bronx to help down the stretch of the season. Schmidt hasn't pitched at all in the big leagues this season after he underwent an internal brace procedure on his right elbow last July. He has made four rehab appearances, allowing three runs while striking out eight batters across 5.2 innings. The Yankees don't have time to build up his workload, so Schmidt will be used in a bullpen role for the rest of the season. With that being said, Schmidt won't offer much fantasy value out of the bullpen, but he figures to rejoin the starting rotation next season.

New York Yankees right-handed pitcher Clarke Schmidt (right elbow) is scheduled to face hitters Saturday for the first time in his Tommy John rehab. Schmidt underwent a UCL repair with an internal brace on July 11, 2025, rather than a full reconstruction, and remains on the 60-day injured list. The live session is a meaningful step, but he still needs to build toward a minor-league rehab assignment before activation. Schmidt made 14 starts last season, going 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings. The Yankees have listed August as a possible return window, though his role remains unsettled. Brian Cashman has said Schmidt could return as either a starter or reliever. Fantasy managers with IL space can keep monitoring him, but a return is not yet close enough to treat as imminent.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt (elbow) is getting closer to throwing his first live bullpen session. He is nearing the one-year mark since undergoing an internal brace procedure in July 2025, and a live bullpen session would represent a major milestone in his recovery. Thus far, he has been limited to side sessions and mound work, but reports that he is ready to take this next step suggest his recovery has been progressing well behind the scenes. If things continue on this trajectory, he could begin a rehab assignment later this month, with the hope of rejoining the Yankees' rotation down the stretch. If he earns a spot at the back end of New York's rotation, he is worth rostering in the deepest fantasy leagues.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt (elbow) is expected to begin throwing bullpen sessions at the end of March and could progress to throwing to live hitters in April if all goes well. The right-hander is continuing his recovery from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last July, and his current track puts him on pace to return to the big league mound sometime in the second half of the season, so long as he does not encounter any setbacks. The former first-round draft pick has been a relatively effective pitcher for the Yankees over the last few years, but he also missed a lot of time in 2024 due to injury. The 6-foot-1 hurler recorded a 3.07 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 15.8 percent K-BB% in 30 starts between 2024 and 2025, and if he can regain that form, he could be a worthy stash candidate or waiver add later in the year.

New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (elbow) thinks that grip changes last year led to his elbow issues that required Tommy John surgery, according to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. "I think the No. 1 thing that played a factor was mid-season grip changes," Schmidt said. "You make grip changes, and you start to really put different stress on different areas of your forearm and stuff like that." The 30-year-old started throwing a new sweeper on May 6 last year, and it required him to "grip it really hard" and "torque it." A month late, he was having trouble recovering between starts and battled through right-forearm soreness. Schmidt was limited to 14 starts in 2025. He plans on sticking with his old sweeper grip and will "definitely" ditch the newer one. This spring, Schmidt is focusing on his rehab. Fantasy managers are unlikely to have him available until the end of the summer, limiting his fantasy appeal in 2026.

New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (elbow), who is on the 60-day injured list as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery last July, was seen throwing in the outfield in camp on Friday, according to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic. Schmidt won't be an option for the Yankees' starting rotation until some point after the All-Star break in mid-July. The 29-year-old also opened last year on the IL due to a shoulder injury that he suffered in spring training. He struck out only 73 batters in 78 2/3 total innings over 14 starts in 2025, but Schmidt held a solid 3.32 ERA (3.95 FIP) and 1.09 WHIP in his sixth year in the big leagues with the Bombers. Schmidt does a great job of keeping hitters off balance and inducing weak contact, but durability has been a concern, and he's only gone over 100 innings pitched in one of his five MLB seasons. Fantasy managers should have better stash candidates in single-year leagues in 2026.

According to Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network, New York Yankees right-handed starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt (elbow) is still targeting a second-half return. Schmidt underwent an internal brace procedure last July and remains on track to return to the bump during the back half of the 2026 campaign. Before suffering the injury last summer, Schmidt was quite productive, logging 78 2/3 innings to the tune of a 3.32 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP. During this stint, the right-hander struck out 73 batters while generating a strong 3.02 xERA and an elite .198 xBA. In 2024, Schmidt was productive as well, posting a 2.85 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 85 1/3 innings. Managers in deeper formats with IL spots should consider stashing Schmidt closer to his return, as he could provide solid SP3/SP4 upside down the stretch.

Right-hander Clarke Schmidt and the New York Yankees avoided salary arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million deal for the 2026 season, a source told Robert Murray of FanSided. Schmidt probably won't pitch again for the Yankees until the second half of next season after he had an internal-brace procedure on his right elbow in mid-July. The 29-year-old former 16th overall pick in 2017 out of South Carolina was solid in 14 starts for the Yanks before his elbow injury this year, going 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 73:30 K:BB over 78 2/3 innings pitched. Schmidt was even better in 2024 before another injury ended his season early, as he posted a career-best 2.85 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 16 starts in pinstripes. In his six MLB seasons, Schmidt has a 3.82 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 23% strikeout rate, and 8.3% walk rate.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that right-hander Clarke Schmidt (elbow) could be an option in the second half of next season, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. Schmidt will miss the first half of the 2026 campaign after having an internal brace procedure on his right elbow on July 11. The 29-year-old hurler has been a solid rotation piece for the Yankees over the last two seasons, but he also hasn't been reliable due to multiple injuries. He had a 2.85 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 16 starts in 2024 before going 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA (3.95 FIP) and 1.09 WHIP with 73 strikeouts and 30 walks in 14 starts this past season. Schmidt had a career-high 149 K's and 46 walks in 33 outings (32 starts) for the Bombers back in 2023. He will not be on the fantasy radar in single-year leagues next spring, and it remains to be seen how much he'll be able to contribute to New York's rotation after the All-Star break.

New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt (elbow) underwent season-ending elbow surgery earlier this month, but it was not a full Tommy John procedure. Rather, Schmidt had internal-brace surgery and should miss less time as a result, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. The 29-year-old's estimated timeline to return is 11 to 13 months, meaning he could factor into the Yankees' rotation in the second half of 2026. Schmidt ended the 2025 campaign 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP, and 73:30 K:BB in 78 2/3 innings. The Yankees have had difficulty replacing Schmidt and are on the hunt for rotation help with Thursday's trade deadline looming.
