Connelly Early to Start Deciding Game 3 Against Yankees

Boston Red Sox rookie left-hander Connelly Early is being put in a big situation early in his career, as he has been confirmed as the team's starter for Game 3 of the wild-card series on Thursday in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. He'll be opposed by Yankees rookie Cam Schlittler. Early was impressive in his first four MLB starts in the final month of the regular season, allowing only six runs (five earned) on 17 hits (no homers) while walking four and striking out 29 in 19 1/3 innings pitched. A rotation spot opened up in the postseason when right-hander Lucas Giolito was shut down with more right-elbow issues. Early is listed by MLB Pipeline as the BoSox's No. 6 prospect. The Virginia product doesn't overpower hitters, but he has a strong command of the zone for his age and a couple of impressive breaking pitches to back up his 92-94 mph fastball.

Connelly Early Likely to Start Potential Game 3

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Connelly Early is the most likely candidate to start a potential Game 3 of the Wild Card round against the New York Yankees. The Red Sox don't have a ton of viable options right now after Lucas Giolito (elbow) went down. Garrett Crochet is starting Tuesday's game and Brayan Bello has been named as the Game 2 starter. On Tuesday, manager Alex Cora confirmed that Early would likely take the ball if there's a Game 3. The southpaw owns a 2.33 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and a 29/4 K/BB ratio across four starts. It's not an ideal situation, but Early has pitched well in his handful of starts.

Connelly Early Could Come Out of the Bullpen in Wild-Card Series

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Connelly Early could be a part of the team's postseason plans after a stellar four-game debut to finish out the year. In those four starts, Boston's sixth-ranked prospect recorded a 2.33 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and an elite 31.6 percent K-BB%. The 23-year-old would likely come out of the bullpen in the team's first-round best-of-three series, but could be called upon as the fourth starter in the rotation in the best-of-five Division series if Boston were to advance. Regardless of what happens, it seems clear that he's made a good enough impression to be in consideration for a rotation spot in 2026, and it will be interesting to see where he goes in early 2026 fantasy drafts based on his impressive, albeit short, major league debut.

Connelly Early to Make his Next Start on Sunday

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that rookie left-hander Connelly Early will make his next start on four days of rest in Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays, according to Mass Live's Christopher Smith. The 23-year-old former fifth-round pick in 2023 out of Virginia has looked sharp in his first two MLB starts for the BoSox, giving up only one earned run on 10 hits while walking one and striking out 18 over 10 1/3 innings against the Athletics in both outings. While Early has been impressive, this will be only the third time all year that he's been asked to pitch on four days of rest. The team's No. 6-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline, went 10-3 with a 2.60 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 132:40 K:BB in 100 1/3 innings with Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester before getting the call to the majors. Early hasn't been known as an overpowering pitching prospect, but he has set up his impressive offspeed pitches with his fastball nicely early in his MLB career.

Connelly Early Fans Seven In No-Decision Tuesday

Boston Red Sox rookie starting pitcher Connelly Early turned in another strong start in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Athletics. Early pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. He also hit a batter. Unfortunately, his offense couldn't give him and run support, sticking him with a no-decision. The 23-year-old has carried his success from Triple-A Worcester to his first two big-league starts, compiling a 0.87 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 18 strikeouts in 10 1/3 IP. Early is tentatively lined up for a start at the Rays. Fantasy managers should check probable pitchers in the coming days for confirmation, but there is no reason not to start him in that matchup.

Connelly Early to Start on Tuesday

Boston Red Sox left-handed pitching prospect Connelly Early will start on Tuesday against the Athletics, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Right-hander Lucas Giolito will get the ball on Wednesday, while fellow righty Brayan Bello will toe the rubber in the series finale on Thursday. Giolito and Bello had been slated for Thursday and Friday, respectively, but the Red Sox decided to move each of them up a day. As for Early, he'll get a rematch with the Athletics after dominating them in his first major league start in a 6-0 win on Sept. 9. The 23-year-old threw five scoreless innings of five-hit ball and totaled a jaw-dropping 11 strikeouts against one walk. Early, who previously faced the A's on the road, will be making his Fenway Park debut on Tuesday.
