Danny Jansen Traded to Brewers

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday. In exchange, the Rays will receive infielder Jadher Areinamo from Milwaukee. Areinamo is ranked No. 24 in the Brewers farm system, so not a bad deal for Jansen who is on an expiring deal. This deal gives the Brewers more depth behind William Contreras behind the plate. Jansen is slashing .204/.314/.389 with 11 home runs and 29 RBI across 79 games with the Rays this season. He figures to see increased time behind the plate with Contreras banged up right now. Jansen isn't a great hitter, but a viable option behind the plate, so the Brewers can give Contreras more time at designated hitter.

Danny Jansen Absent on Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. This appears to be a routine rest day for Jansen who has started in each of the last two games. During those games, Jansen went 2-for-8 with two singles and one RBI. Jansen has been struggling with the bat this season, but has recorded at least one hit in each of his last four games. Despite that, Jansen isn't worth a look in fantasy formats right now. Matt Thaiss will cover behind the plate and bat seventh versus right-hander Dean Kremer on Tuesday.

Danny Jansen Collects Three Hits

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen was an unlikely hero at the plate during Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins. Jansen did a little of everything in this game, including a two-run home run in the fourth inning. He would finish this game 3-for-4 with a homer, double, and three runs scored in the loss. It hasn't been a pretty season for Jansen who is slashing .200/.320/.354 with five homers and 14 RBI this season. It was a nice outing for the veteran catcher, but he's still not productive enough to warrant rostering in most fantasy formats.

Danny Jansen Heads to the Bench

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Thursday's game against the Houston Astros. This appears to be a routine rest day for Jansen who went 1-for-6 with a homer and two RBI during their previous series. He was starting to heat up with the bat, but has mostly put together a fairly disappointing 2025 campaign. Matt Thaiss will start behind the plate and bat ninth against right-hander Ryan Gusto. Neither hitter is worth rostering in most fantasy formats at the moment.

Danny Jansen, Jose Caballero Sitting on Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen and infielder/outfielder Jose Caballero are not in Sunday's lineup when they conclude a series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Jansen has started in each of the previous two contests. During this stretch, the backstop went 2-for-7 at the plate with a double. As a result, Ben Rortvedt will get the nod behind the dish and bat in the nine-hole. Caballero has only sat on the bench once over their last 10 contests. During this stretch, the utility man has posted a strong .257/.316/.371 line with an impressive six stolen bases. Fantasy managers should expect both Jansen and Caballero to return to the lineup on Monday when they face Chris Paddack and the Minnesota Twins. Caballero will be replaced by Taylor Walls, who will cover shortstop.

Danny Jansen Sitting On Saturday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen will not be in the starting nine on Saturday when they continue a series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Jansen has not been given a start against a right-handed pitcher since April 27. This afternoon, the Rays will face Milwaukee right-hander Tobias Myers. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but it appears Jansen is beginning to fall into a platoon role behind the dish. As a result, Ben Rortvedt will get the starting nod and will bat in the nine-hole. Over his last nine games, Jansen has posted a .160/.344/.160 slash line with no extra-base hits. Given his drop in playing time, he should only be rostered in deep AL-only formats. This afternoon, Rortvedt is best to fade in DFS facing Myers, who enters this game holding a 3.65 ERA.

Junior Caminero, Jose Caballero, Christopher Morel, Danny Jansen Resting

The Tampa Bay Rays are giving a handful of their regular starters a rest in Sunday's series finale against the division-rival New York Yankees in the Bronx, as third baseman Junior Caminero, utility man Jose Caballero, outfielder Christopher Morel and catcher Danny Jansen are out of the starting lineup. Curtis Mead is starting at third base and batting sixth, Taylor Walls is at shortstop and hitting ninth, Travis Jankowski is in left field and batting seventh, and Ben Rortvedt is doing the catching and hitting eighth against Yankees right-hander Will Warren. Caminero gets the day of rest after starting in each of the team's last 25 games. The 21-year-old prospect has gone just 1-for-16 in his last four starts and is hitting .240 on the season, so it's a good time for him to get a little breather. None of Tampa's replacements on Sunday are particularly intriguing from a DFS standpoint against Warren.

Danny Jansen Carries Rays Past Braves On Friday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen had a huge game on Friday night to help the Rays beat the Braves in Tampa. Jansen went 3-for-4 with his first home run of the season and added a double and four RBI in the Rays' 6-3 victory. Jansen has played nine games for the Rays this season and had gone just 1-for-26 (.038) before breaking through as a surprising hero on Friday night. He and Ben Rortvedt will continue to share time behind the plate, but so far Jansen has gotten most of the work, despite his offensive struggles. After such a slow start, Jansen isn't a fantasy option at this point, but it's worth watching to see if this big game is the start of something more.

Danny Jansen Starting On Friday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen (rib) is in Friday's starting lineup. Jansen will be behind the dish and bat sixth against Colorado left-hander Kyle Freeland. Jansen was sidelined at the end of spring training due to a pulled muscle in his rib cage. However, the 29-year-old was able to progress enough and will not miss Opening Day. Earlier in the offseason, the Rays signed Jansen to a one-year deal worth $8.5 million to be the primary backstop. Before the injury, Jansen tallied three round-trippers with a .320/.452/.640 slash line with two doubles and two long balls across 11 contests in the Grapefruit League. Last season, Jansen posted a modest .205/.309/.349 slash line with nine long balls. He is worth a look in DFS competitions facing Freeland, who posted a 5.24 ERA last season.

Danny Jansen Should Be Able To Play On Friday

Tampa Bay Rays catcher Danny Jansen (rib) appears to be ready to play on Opening Day on Friday against the Colorado Rockies after testing out his injured rib muscle while catching and hitting in a simulated game on Wednesday, according to Bally Sports' Ryan Bass. Jansen didn't have any limitations in Wednesday's sim game, clearing the way for him to be active on Friday. The 29-year-old backstop will open the 2025 campaign as Tampa's starting catcher after hitting a combined .205/.309/.349 with a .658 OPS, nine home runs and 24 RBI in 92 games with the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox in 2024. Jansen has decent pop for a catcher, but durability is an issue, as he's played in more than 100 games just once in his seven MLB seasons, and not since 2019. Expect the Rays to rest him regularly with Ben Rortvedt.
