Hagen Smith Remains Intriguing Stash Target with High Strikeout Potential

Chicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Hagen Smith continues to showcase high-end strikeout potential at the top club in the minor leagues. While Smith's overall production has remained far from consistent, the young southpaw has continued to miss bats at a high rate, which has caused his stash upside to gradually increase. The 22-year-old joined the White Sox with the fifth overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft and has quickly progressed through the minor leagues. Last summer, Smith spent his entire campaign with Double-A, where he struck out 108 hitters over 75 2/3 innings while holding a 3.57 ERA. However, during his first stint with Triple-A, Smith has posted a modest 4.54 ERA with a 47:27 K:BB over 33 2/3 innings. While his command needs to be stronger, Smith does not face much competition to earn a spot in the MLB rotation, which makes him worth closely monitoring in deeper redraft leagues.

Hagen Smith's Strikeout Potential Warrants Stash Consideration

Chicago White Sox pitching prospect Hagen Smith struck out another six batters in his latest start at Triple-A and allowed just one earned run on two hits, but his command issue reared it's head again, with the southpaw walking five batters, resulting in an exit after only 3 2/3 innings pitched (75 pitches). Chicago's fourth-ranked prospect has flashed strong strikeout potential over the last two seasons between Double-A and Triple-A, punching out 33.2 percent of batters faced, however, a gaudy 17.6 percent walk rate over that same period shows there is still work to be done. The former fifth-overall draft pick is limiting opponents to a .171 batting average, but a 3.90 ERA (4.16 FIP) and 13.8 percent K-BB% could delay his call-up to the majors. Even so, the 22-year-old is expected to make a debut at some point this season, and with his elite strikeout potential, the lefty should be viewed as one of the top prospect pitchers to stash.

Hagen Smith Viewed as Top Stash Option with Elite Strikeout Potential

Chicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Hagen Smith is climbing up the stash ranks among pitchers and could be in the mix to debut in the coming weeks. Throughout his time in the minor leagues, Smith has flashed elite strikeout upside and could provide immediate value for fantasy managers. Smith spent the next 2025 season with Double-A and was given the green light to open the 2026 campaign at the top club in the White Sox system, Triple-A Charlotte. With the Knights, Smith, the former fourth overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft, has struck out an eye-catching 35 hitters over just 26 1/3 innings. During this stint, he has held a 4.10 ERA with a modest 1.29 WHIP. However, removing his recent five-run showing, Smith would carry a much stronger 2.82 ERA over his first 22 1/3 innings. While his command remains a weakness in his profile, given Chicago's lack of proven pitching depth, they could turn to Smith in the near future, as they were not concerned with giving another young prospect, Noah Schultz, an early call-up.

Hagen Smith Emerging as Name to Stash in White Sox System

Chicago White Sox pitching prospect Hagen Smith is showcasing high upside at the Triple-A level and is making a strong case to be viewed as a solid stash option in deeper 12+ team leagues ahead of Week 7. Smith joined the White Sox with the fifth overall selection in the 2024 MLB Draft and has quickly progressed through the system during his young MiLB career. During the 2025 campaign, Smith spent his entire season with Double-A and logged 75 2/3 innings with a 3.57 ERA with 108 punchouts and 56 walks. Despite his shaky command, Smith was sent to Triple-A to begin the 2026 campaign and has continued to show steady progress. Through his first 26 1/3 innings at Triple-A, he has struck out an impressive 35 batters. While his 4.10 ERA seems high, it is highly inflated by his recent five-run outing on May 9. Removing that start, Smith would carry a 2.82 ERA over 22 1/3 innings. If Smith continues this trajectory, he should be in the mix to join the rotation in the coming weeks.

Hagen Smith Starting to Knock on MLB Door

Chicago White Sox left-handed pitching prospect Hagen Smith has looked sharp to begin the season at Triple-A and is quickly approaching his MLB debut. The White Sox opted to send their former fifth overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft to Triple-A Charlotte to open the 2026 regular season. Over his first two outings (logging three innings in both), Smith has allowed just three runs (only two earned) while striking out nine with just one walk. His command was a blemish on his production last season as he allowed a hefty 56 free passes over a 75 2/3-inning stint with Double-A Birmingham. However, during this stint, Smith flashed his elite strikeout upside, totaling 108. If the young southpaw can continue to lower his walk rate, he should claim a spot in the rotation over Erick Fedde or Davis Martin in the near future.

Hagen Smith to Make Triple-A Debut

Chicago White Sox left-handed pitching prospect Hagen Smith will be starting the 2026 regular season with Triple-A Charlotte. Smith was in the mix to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster but will instead begin the campaign by making his Triple-A debut. Smith spent the entire 2025 campaign with Double-A Birmingham. Through 75 2/3 innings at this level, Smith held a 3.57 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP. The southpaw struck out an impressive 108 hitters but struggled to command his pitches, allowing a high 58 free passes. In 2024, Smith made his professional debut with High-A and tossed only 7 2/3 innings with a 7:2 K:BB. Given how quickly Smith has progressed through the minor leagues, the former fifth overall pick from the 2024 MLB Draft remains on track for an early promotion to the major leagues.

White Sox Reassign Hagen Smith to Minor-League Camp

The Chicago White Sox announced on Monday that they reassigned left-handed pitching prospect Hagen Smith to minor-league camp. Smith will begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Charlotte, but he figures to make his major-league debut with the Pale Hose at some point this year. The 22-year-old southpaw spent all of last year working at Double-A Birmingham, going 3-3 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 108:56 K:BB in 75 2/3 innings pitched over his 20 starts. The former fifth overall pick in 2024 out of the University of Arkansas was considered one of the highest-floor starting pitchers of his draft class, but his inability to throw strikes so far in the minors has been worrisome. Elbow soreness early last year also caused Smith to miss six weeks. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder still has a dominant fastball/slider combination, but he's going to need to throw more strikes if he's going to be successful at the major-league level. Smith is strictly a dynasty/keeper-league stash for now.

Hagen Smith to Face Hitters on Tuesday

Chicago White Sox left-handed pitching prospect Hagen Smith (elbow) will face hitters in a live batting practice session on Tuesday for the first time this spring, according to Scott Merkin of MLB.com. Smith has another live batting practice session scheduled and then expects to get into some action in Cactus League games. The 22-year-old southpaw, who was the fifth overall pick in 2024 out of Arkansas, had a 3.57 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 108:56 K:BB in 75 2/3 innings over 20 starts with Double-A Birmingham last year. He missed six weeks in the first half of 2025 due to elbow soreness, which is why the White Sox have slow-played him so far this spring. Questionable control has fantasy managers in dynasty/keeper leagues pumping the brakes a bit on Smith being a high-end starting pitcher at the next level, although if he can lower his walk rate in 2026, he should make his MLB debut. Smith is dominant with his fastball and slider, but a lack of a real third pitch may push him to a high-leverage relief role down the road.

Hagen Smith to Compete for Early Promotion to Triple-A?

Chicago White Sox left-handed pitching prospect Hagen Smith could push for an early-season ticket to Triple-A. Smith is currently ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the system and the No. 88 overall prospect on MLB.com. Smith made his professional debut in 2024 following the 2024 MLB Draft, where he was selected with the fifth overall pick out of Arkansas. During this brief 7 2/3-inning stint, Smith posted a 3.52 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP. In 2025, the southpaw spent his entire campaign with Double-A Birmingham. During this stint, Smith logged 75 2/3 innings to the tune of a 3.57 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. While he allowed a high 56 walks. He showed high-end strikeout potential, totaling 108. If Smith can improve his command in camp, he could be in the mix to join Triple-A early in 2026, opening the door for a second-half MLB debut.

Hagen Smith Walks Five in Latest Start at Double-A

Chicago White Sox pitching prospect Hagen Smith was tagged for four earned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out three in 3 2/3 innings of work for Double-A Birmingham on Sunday. It was the fifth time this season in 17 total starts that the southpaw walked at least four batters in an outing. Sometimes pitchers are working on new pitches, so it's hard to blame it all on his control, but the first half numbers looked far better than the second half. In his first eight starts (27 1/3 innings pitched), the lefty posted a 1.98 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 21.2 percent K-BB%, however, over the last nine starts (35 1/3 IP), he's recorded a 5.35 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and an 11.8 percent K-BB%. Hopefully Chicago's fifth-ranked prospect can end the season on a high note, which would put him in a position to see Triple-A next season and potentially make his major league debut.
