Otto Lopez, Heriberto Hernandez on the Bench for Game 1 of Doubleheader

Miami Marlins infielder Otto Lopez and outfielder Heriberto Hernandez will both start on the bench for Game 1 of their Saturday doubleheader against the division-rival Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. Javier Sanoja is starting at shortstop and is batting eighth, while Dane Myers will start in left field and bat out of the six-hole versus Braves right-hander Hurston Waldrep. Lopez has hits in each of his last three games but has gone only 5-for-29 (.172) with a double, RBI and a stolen base in the first eight games in the month of August. The rookie Hernandez hit his seventh homer of the year in Friday's game and has swung it very well in his first 44 MLB games in 2025, batting .311 (38-for-122) with seven long balls, 22 RBI and 21 runs scored. The 25-year-old should continue to see regular playing time for the Fish going forward.

Heriberto Hernandez Stays Hot

Miami Marlins designated hitter/outfielder Heriberto Hernandez racked up four RBI on Wednesday against the Giants, going 2-for-5 with a single and a double. His three-run double in the 10th inning was the difference in the team's 8-5 victory. Hernandez has given the team a nice boost since his promotion 17 games ago, hitting .340 (17-for-50) with four doubles, a home run, and a .375 wOBA. He has a solid 44.4% hard-hit rate and has primarily done his damage against left-handed pitchers. Hernandez was only hitting .220 in Triple-A before his promotion, with nine home runs and six stolen bases in 41 games. Based on his minor league numbers, his hot streak likely won't last long-term, but he's a streaming or DFS bargain play for as long as he's hitting the ball so well, especially when facing a southpaw.

Heriberto Hernandez Clobbering Homers In Minors

Tampa Bay Rays outfiield prospect Heriberto Hernandez was already 18 years old when he signed a cheap $10,000 deal with the Rangers in 2017. Since then, he has been dealt to the Rays and emerged as one of the club's better prospects. Originally a catcher, Hernandez now covers the corner outfield positions while also filling in at first base here and there. He has a loud swing that produces fantastic power, yet he still draws walks at a decent clip. He needs to bring his strikeout rate down, but it's clear that the Rays are very excited about the offensive upside he could offer the big-league club someday. Hernandez doesn't run extremely well, but he has an average glove and plus arm in the outfield, making him a candidate to play right field long-term. If that doesn't work out, he would have no trouble pivoting to left field or first base. At the end of the day, though, his bat is still his top tool. The 22-year-old certainly put his swing to good use this past week, going 8-for-19 (.421) with four homers, 12 RBI, five homers, and four strikeouts. Not only did he continue to clobber the ball, but he showed that he is also capable of cutting down on strikeouts. His powerful bat could translate to some very nice fantasy production in a few years.
