Tyler Phillips Earns Third Save

Miami Marlins relief pitcher Tyler Phillips was called upon to hold a three-run lead versus the New York Mets on Saturday. Both Ronny Henriquez and Calvin Faucher were already used earlier in the game. That being said, Phillips was given a save chance and made the most of it. He tossed a scoreless inning, allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out one batter to earn his third save of the season. It's worth noting that Phillips received a save chance in two of his last three games. He figures to remain in the mix for saves down the stretch of the season. However, Henriquez and Faucher should also get chances, so Phillips won't be a consistent option for saves in fantasy formats.

Marlins Acquire Tyler Phillips From Phillies

The Miami Marlins acquired right-hander Tyler Phillips from the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, the Marlins announced. In a corresponding move, right-hander Seth Martinez was designated for assignment to make room for Phillips on the 40-man roster. Phillips, 27, will open the year in the big leagues with the Fish after making his major-league debut in 2024 in Philadelphia, where he allowed 28 earned runs on 45 hits (nine homers allowed) while walking seven and striking out 28 in eight appearances (seven starts) covering 36 2/3 innings pitched. He will give the Marlins some extra starting depth with Ryan Weathers (forearm) and Edward Cabrera (finger) starting on the injured list, but Phillips will begin the year as a long reliever out of Miami's bullpen. He can be ignored in fantasy for now.

Tyler Phillips Optioned To Triple-A

The Philadelphia Phillies optioned rookie right-hander Tyler Phillips to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday and selected the contract of right-hander Nick Nelson from Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Michael Rucker was designated for assignment. The move comes after Phillips surrendered six earned runs on eight hits in just two-thirds of an inning on Tuesday in a start against the Toronto Blue Jays. It's been a tough go for Phillips in his first taste of the majors in 2024, as he now has a 6.87 ERA (5.58 FIP) and 1.42 WHIP while striking out 28 and walking seven in 36 2/3 innings over his eight appearances (seven starts). It's unclear who might take his spot in the starting rotation, but it could be either Taijuan Walker or Kolby Allard.

Tyler Phillips Tosses Complete Game Saturday

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Tyler Phillips threw a complete game shutout in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Guardians. The 26-year-old allowed just four hits and one walk over nine innings of work while striking out four. It was the second consecutive outing in which the righty did not allow a run, and he's now 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA (3.43 FIP), 0.76 WHIP, and 2:19 BB:K over 25 innings pitched. His next start lines up with the Mariners next Friday on the road, the team that strikes out the most in all of baseball, so he could be a solid waiver addition for fantasy teams looking for some short-term pitching help.
