Ryan Gusto Heads to 15-Day Injured List

Miami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Ryan Gusto (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Sunday, retroactive to Aug. 28. Gusto has been terrible lately, allowing 14 earned runs over his last two starts. It's possible that his shoulder issue was part of the reason he was struggling on the mound. He figures to miss a few weeks of action and honestly could be done for the season given there's basically only a month left. In a corresponding move, right-hander Freddy Tarnok has been recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville. Gusto can safely be dropped in all fantasy leagues.

Ryan Gusto To Enter Rotation and Start on Friday

With the Miami Marlins severing ties with right-hander Cal Quantrill, they will turn to rookie right-hander Ryan Gusto, who will make the start in Friday's series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Craig Mish of Sports Grid. If Gusto pitches well in his return to the majors, he'll have a shot to stick around in the starting rotation in Miami for a while. The Fish acquired the 26-year-old in the deal that sent outfielder Jesus Sanchez to the Houston Astros at the trade deadline. In his first year in the big leagues with Houston and Miami, Gusto has gone 7-5 with a 4.89 ERA (3.99 FIP) and 1.40 WHIP with 95 strikeouts and 30 walks in 99 innings over 25 outings (15 starts). In his Marlins debut on Aug. 9 against Atlanta, he allowed three runs in six innings with two walks and eight K's. Gusto is an option for NL-only leagues but won't be a recommended streamer on Friday against Toronto.

Ryan Gusto Recalled from Triple-A, Starting Saturday

The Miami Marlins have recalled right-hander Ryan Gusto from Triple-A Jacksonville as the 27th man for their Saturday doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves. The 26-year-old Gusto will start game one of the doubleheader. It will be his first appearance as a member of the Marlins after Miami acquired him from the Houston Astros at the trade deadline as part of the return for outfielder Jesus Sanchez. In 86 innings (14 starts) for the Astros in 2025, Gusto was 7-4 with a 4.92 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 87 strikeouts. The Marlins have been getting solid work out of their starters of late, so this is likely just a spot start for Gusto.

Ryan Gusto Going to Miami

The Miami Marlins have acquired right-hander Ryan Gusto from the Houston Astros for outfielder Jesus Sanchez, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Gusto, an 11th-round pick in 2019, reached the majors for the first time this year and ate up a significant number of innings for the Astros before the trade. The 26-year-old has racked up 86 frames over 24 appearances (14 starts) and gone 7-4 with a 4.92 ERA, a 1.43 WHIP, and 87:28 K:BB. He's a candidate to join the Marlins' rotation, but that could depend on whether they trade any of their current starters before the deadline.

Ryan Gusto Starting for the Astros on Friday

Houston Astros right-hander Ryan Gusto will start Friday's game against the Athletics, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. With Lance McCullers (blister) landing on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, the Astros needed someone to step into the rotation, and it appears the Astros will go with Gusto, who has made 22 appearances on the season and 12 starts. For the season, Gusto sports a 4.46 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and a 77/26 K/BB ratio across 77 2/3 innings pitched. Fantasy managers chasing points or quality starts could take a chance with Gusto on Friday, but he is not considered a great streaming option for the long haul. The Athletics' offense has been generally better against right-handed pitchers of late and ranks 17th in the Majors in runs scored.

Ryan Gusto Moved Up to Start on Monday

With Houston Astros right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. (foot) landing on the 15-day injured list, rookie right-hander Ryan Gusto is being moved up to start Monday's series opener against the Athletics. Gusto was originally scheduled to start Game 2 of the series in Sacramento, but he'll be moved up a day due to McCullers' foot strain. The 26-year-old will now have a two-start week with two great matchups in the A's and Los Angeles Angels. In his first 15 major-league appearances (nine starts) in 2025, Gusto has gone 4-3 with a 4.56 ERA (4.01 FIP) and 1.60 WHIP with 52 strikeouts and 22 walks in 49 1/3 innings pitched. Surprisingly, the A's are in the top 10 in team OPS (.738) on the season, so it won't be a cakewalk for Gusto on Monday. He's more of a control artist than a strikeout guy with a 23% strikeout rate and .285 batting average against.

Ryan Gusto Earns Opening Day Roster Spot In Bullpen

Houston Astros pitching prospect Ryan Gusto has made the team's Opening Day roster, according to manager Joe Espada. The 6-foot-4 hurler spent all of 2024 at Triple-A, posting a 3.70 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 14.1 percent K-BB% over 148 1/3 innings of work. The righty showed well enough this spring, too, allowing one earned run on three hits and seven walks while striking out eight in 7 2/3 innings. The former 11th-round draft pick has worked as both a starter and a reliever but is slated to begin the 2025 campaign as a reliever for the Astros. Whenever the 26-year-old pitches, it will be his major-league debut, but he need not be rostered in most fantasy leagues other than deep AL-only formats.

Ryan Gusto Named Pacific League Pitcher Of The Week

Houston Astros starting pitching prospect Ryan Gusto was named Pacific League Pitcher of the Week after tossing 14 shutout frames. Through his two starts, the right-hander allowed seven combined hits with only two free passes. He struck out 12 batters. Gusto has been gaining momentum at Triple-A since June, as he posted a stellar 1.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 23 innings. Then, in July, the 25-year-old held a 1.15 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP through 31 frames of work. Overall, through his first 102 innings at the Triple-A level, the former 11th-round pick has posted a 3.88 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. However, his recent production over the past few months suggests Gusto has taken a significant step forward in his development. Given his current play, Gusto is a candidate to reach the major leagues later this season.
