The Tampa Bay Rays have added relief pitcher Tyler Zuber to their 40-man roster and optioned him to Triple-A Durham. It is a procedural move for the veteran pitcher that has not been in the big-leagues since 2021 with the Kansas City Royals. The 29-year-old has looked good this season for Durham with a 2.49 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings and this move could mean that he might get some time in Tampa Bay in the second half. Regardless of if he gets promoted or not, he can safely remain on the waiver wire.

In his two seasons with the Royals, Zuber posted a 5.29 ERA, 55 strikeouts and 37 walks in 49 1/3 relief innings. Expect him to open the year with Triple-A Columbus.

In his two seasons with the Royals in 2020 and 2021, Zuber had a 5.29 ERA (5.96 FIP), a 1.58 WHIP and a 55:37 K:BB in 49 1/3 innings pitched over 54 relief appearances. The 27-year-old resumed throwing off flat ground in recent weeks and has a shot to be ready for spring training with Arizona in 2023.
