Jackson Holliday Back in Lineup for Series Opener Against Nats

Baltimore Orioles middle infielder Jackson Holliday (groin) is starting at second base and batting eighth for Friday's series opener against the visiting Washington Nationals and left-hander Andrew Alvarez at Camden Yards, according to MLB.com. Holliday didn't start the last four games for the O's while nursing a groin injury, but he'll be back this weekend against the Nats as he looks to finally get his bat going in what has been an injury-plagued season for the former first overall pick. The 22-year-old left-handed hitter didn't make his 2026 season debut until May 19 due to a fractured hamate bone in his hand that required surgery back in spring training. Holliday teased 20-20 upside in 2025 in his first full season in the big leagues with 17 homers and 17 stolen bases, but so far in 30 games (99 plate appearances) in 2026, he's hitting .198 (17-for-86) with four homers, 12 RBI, 11 walks, and 30 stolen bases. There's still plenty of upside, but it's hard to recommend Holliday off the waiver wire with the way he's been swinging it, especially at the bottom of Baltimore's batting order. He's currently rostered in under 30% of Yahoo leagues.

Jackson Holliday Missing Fourth Straight Game on Wednesday

Baltimore Orioles middle infielder Jackson Holliday (groin) is missing a fourth straight game on Wednesday in Anaheim against the hosting Los Angeles Angels, according to MLB.com. Jeremiah Jackson will make another start at the keystone and will bat eighth against Angels right-hander Jose Soriano. The good news for Holliday is that he was able to do pre-game work with the team before the first two games of the series at Angel Stadium, signaling that he's likely to avoid another trip to the injured list with his groin soreness. The Orioles have a scheduled day off on Thursday, so Holliday's next chance to rejoin the starting lineup will come in Friday's series opener versus the Washington Nationals. Fantasy managers should check back then for an update. The 22-year-old former first overall pick in 2022 is rostered in just 30% of Yahoo leagues at the moment after getting a late start to his third year in the majors due to a broken hamate bone suffered in spring training. Since returning, he has gone just 17-for-85 (.200) with four homers, 12 RBI, 14 runs, three stolen bases, 11 walks, and 29 strikeouts in 98 plate appearances.

Jackson Holliday Still Out on Tuesday With Groin Injury

Baltimore Orioles middle infielder Jackson Holliday (groin) remains sidelined on Tuesday with a groin injury against the hosting Los Angeles Angels, according to MLB.com. Jeremiah Jackson is making another start at the keystone for Baltimore and will bat ninth against Angels right-hander Ryan Johnson. Holliday will be missing a third straight game with tightness in his groin, but as of now, he remains day-to-day and could return to the starting nine for Wednesday's contest in Anaheim. The 22-year-old Holliday has had an injury-plagued 2026 campaign to this point, getting a late start after having surgery to fix a broken hamate bone in his hand back in spring training. The former first overall pick then had a setback that prevented on his minor-league rehab assignment that prevented him from making his season debut until May 19. The son of former big-leaguer Matt Holliday has plenty of long-term power/speed upside, but so far in his 85 at-bats this year, he has struggled with only 17 hits (.200 average), four home runs, 12 RBI, 14 runs, and three steals. If/when Holliday finds his groove, he'll be an option off the waiver wire for middle-infield depth. Holliday is rostered in just 30% of Yahoo leagues right now.

Is Jackson Holliday Still a Worthy Waiver-Wire Option Despite Cold Start?

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday (groin) remains an intriguing waiver-wire option despite a slow start and some short-term uncertainty. The 22-year-old is batting .200/.286/.388 with four home runs, 12 RBI, 14 runs, and three stolen bases over 85 at-bats since returning from right hamate surgery. His production has dipped further over his last 15 games (.174 AVG), but his combination of power, speed, and regular playing time when healthy preserves his fantasy upside. Last summer, the former top-ranked prospect produced 17 home runs and 17 stolen bases across 149 games, demonstrating the multi-category ceiling that remains. Holliday was removed after experiencing groin tightness on Saturday and sat out the following game, but the Orioles consider him day-to-day, and he does not expect the issue to require an injured-list stint. Managers should continue to monitor his status, but he should not be in danger of missing much time this coming week. Holliday's Yahoo rostership rate sits at 32%, leaving him available in roughly two-thirds of leagues as an upside pickup for managers who can tolerate some immediate uncertainty.

Jackson Holliday Dealing With Groin Tightness

Baltimore Orioles middle infielder Jackson Holliday (groin) was pulled from Saturday night's game early against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to groin tightness, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. Manager Craig Albernaz didn't want it to become too serious. Before leaving the eventual 3-2 win over the Dodgers on the road, Holliday went 0-for-3 at the plate with two strikeouts. He was replaced at second base by Jeremiah Jackson. It doesn't sound like Holliday's injury is particularly serious, so we'll consider him day-to-day. However, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Holliday to be back in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale at Dodger Stadium. After his hitless performance on Saturday, the 22-year-old former first overall pick in 2022 is hitting just .200 (17-for-85) with four homers, 12 RBI, 14 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 29 games after getting a late start to the 2026 season due to a broken hamate bone in his hand that he suffered back in February. Holliday has 20-20 upside as a former top prospect, but he has yet to put it all together at the big-league level.

Should Jackson Holliday be Rostered in More Fantasy Leagues?

Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday had surgery to fix a broken hamate bone in his hand back in spring training and had multiple setbacks along the way during his rehab, which is why he didn't make his 2026 season debut until May 19. The 22-year-old former first overall pick in 2022 out of Stillwater High School in Oklahoma hit only .229/.300/.360 with a .659 OPS in his first two big-league seasons, but he did produce 17 home runs and 17 stolen bases in 149 games in 2025 in his first full year in the majors in Baltimore. Holliday has only hit .215 (14-for-65) with three home runs, 11 RBI, 11 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 22 games across 76 plate appearances since making his season debut in May, but he did hit his third career grand slam earlier this week against the Seattle Mariners. So far in 10 games in June, Holliday has gone 6-for-32 (.188) with a homer, a double, a triple, five RBI, four runs scored, four walks, and 11 strikeouts. There's no doubt he's still trying to get locked in at the plate after getting a late start to the season, but fantasy managers should be keeping a close eye on the post-hype prospect. Holliday could quickly become a waiver-wire darling if/when he starts to heat up. He's only rostered in 40% of Yahoo leagues right now.

Jackson Holliday Offers Balanced Five-Category Potential on the Waiver Wire

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday had the start of his 2026 season delayed after he suffered a fractured hamate bone in February. Since returning to the Orioles on May 19, Holliday has hit .227/.327/.386 with two home runs, six RBI, eight runs scored, and three stolen bases. The 22-year-old's production may not leap off the page in any one category. Still, Holliday has showcased an improved eye at the plate (13.5% walk rate) early on this year, and his barrel and hard-hit rates are in line with where they were in 2025. The former top prospect was a solid deep-league compiler last season, hitting 17 home runs and stealing 17 bases while hitting .242. Holliday appears locked into everyday playing time in an improved Baltimore lineup in 2026, which should allow him to rack up counting stats the rest of the way. He may not offer tremendous upside, but Holliday's balanced approach makes him a valuable middle infielder to target on the waiver wire.

Does Jackson Holliday Still Carry Waiver Wire Appeal Despite Slow Start?

After suffering a fractured hamate bone in February and then suffering multiple setbacks during his rehab, Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday missed almost 50 games to start the 2026 season. Since making his return from the injured list on May 19, Holliday has hit .217/.296/.348 with one home run, four RBI, four runs scored, and three stolen bases across 27 plate appearances. While the 22-year-old hasn't exactly lit up the stat sheet yet, he's working his way back from an extended absence and should be given some time to settle in. It's also a good sign that Holliday is three-for-three on the bases after he was caught stealing 11 times in 28 attempts in 2025. Holliday may never fully live up to the hype he received as a prospect, but he still profiles as a useful compiler with the ability to provide average-or-better production across all five traditional rotisserie scoring categories. Particularly in deeper league formats, Holliday is worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Jackson Holliday Worth a Pickup Despite Slow Start in 2026?

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday was rostered in most fantasy baseball leagues going into his third MLB season in 2026 before he suffered a fractured hamate bone in his hand back in February that required surgery. After multiple setbacks during his minor-league rehab assignment, Holliday didn't make his season debut until May 19. The 22-year-old former first overall pick is now rostered in under half of Yahoo leagues (42%), and he has yet to make a start against a left-handed pitcher since coming off the injured list. And in his first five games played this year, Holliday has gone 2-for-11 with a homer, two RBI, two steals, and three runs scored. The son of former MLB star Matt Holliday was a first overall pick for a reason, though, and he was three home runs and three stolen bases shy of a 20-20 campaign in 2025 in his first full year in the big leagues. The upside is evident, and Holliday should slowly start to be trusted in an everyday role once he's further removed from his hand injury. Once he starts to heat up, it might be too late to pick him up off the waiver wire.

Jackson Holliday Worth Picking Up Now That he's Healthy?

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Jackson Holliday suffered a fractured hamate bone in his hand back in February and required surgery, putting him on the injured list to start the 2026 regular season in late March. The 22-year-old former first overall pick in 2022 then had multiple setbacks while on a minor-league rehab assignment, which is why he didn't make his season debut until this week against the Tampa Bay Rays. Holliday has gone hitless in his first four plate appearances with the O's with three strikeouts, and he also struggled while in the minors, slashing .176/.291/.284 with a homer, five RBI, six runs, one steal, 10 walks, and 23 strikeouts in 22 rehab games with High-A Frederick, Double-A Chesapeake, and Triple-A Norfolk. Fantasy managers shouldn't forget that Holliday came three home runs and three steals shy of a 20-20 season in 2025 in what was his first full year in the big leagues. He's still a developing young player with plenty of power/speed upside; it might just take him a bit to get back in a rhythm. Holliday is worth stashing for his upside as Baltimore's starting second baseman, and he's only rostered in 40% of Yahoo leagues at the moment.
