Jonathan Cannon in Competition for Starting Role

Chicago White Sox right-handed pitcher Jonathan Cannon is in contention for one of the final roles in the starting rotation. Cannon made his MLB debut back in 2024 for the White Sox and logged 124 1/3 innings to the tune of a 4.49 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP. During this stint, Cannon showed minimal strikeout upside, tallying just 91. In 2025, the Georgia product took a further step back, posting a much higher 5.82 ERA with a 1.49 WHIP across 103 2/3 innings. He struck out just 86 hitters at a low 18.5% rate and held a modest 8.2% walk rate, a slight increase from the 7.7% walk rate he posted as a rookie. However, given Chicago's current lack of pitching depth, Cannon could still play a prominent role despite his rough 2025 season. Given his lack of strikeout potential, Cannon should only be viewed as a desperation streaming option in 15+ team leagues if he were to earn a spot.

Jonathan Cannon Coming Up to Serve in Bulk-Relief Role

The Chicago White Sox announced on Thursday that they recalled right-hander Jonathan Cannon and left-hander Tyler Gilbert from Triple-A Charlotte and placed left-hander Bryan Hudson (back) on the 15-day injured list with a lower-back strain in a corresponding move. Right-hander Bryse Wilson was also designated for assignment. Cannon is expected to serve in a bulk-relief role for Thursday's contest against the division-rival Minnesota Twins at Target Field behind left-handed opener Fraser Ellard. Although Cannon has more streaming appeal than Ellard in this one, fantasy managers should still have better options than Cannon despite the small slate of games on Thursday. The 25-year-old has gone 4-9 at the big-league level in 2025 with a 5.34 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 76:35 K:BB in 96 innings over 19 outings (17 starts) in his second MLB season.

White Sox Send Jonathan Cannon to Triple-A

The Chicago White Sox announced on Friday that they optioned right-hander Jonathan Cannon to Triple-A Charlotte and recalled right-handed pitching prospect Wikelman Gonzalez from Charlotte in a corresponding move. Cannon gets the boot from Chicago's starting rotation after going 4-9 on the year with a 5.34 ERA (5.25 FIP) and 1.46 WHIP with 76 strikeouts and 35 walks in 96 innings over his 19 appearances (17 starts) in his second major-league season. The White Sox had seen enough after Cannon had allowed at least five earned runs in each of his last three starts. The 25-year-old gave up a season-high seven earned runs on four hits (two homers) in just 1 2/3 innings in his most recent outing on Wednesday against the Mariners. It's unclear who might take his spot in the rotation.

Jonathan Cannon Activated Prior to Sunday's Start

The Chicago White Sox have activated right-handed pitcher Jonathan Cannon (back) from the 15-day IL prior to his start on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants. In a corresponding move, the White Sox have sent right-handed pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte. Cannon has been on the injured list since the start of June with a back strain. Before his injury, the 24-year-old posted a modest 4.66 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP through his first 63 2/3 innings with the White Sox. He tallied just 51 strikeouts and held a 7.5% walk rate. Under the hood, Cannon generated a 4.66 xERA and a .268 xBA, which are both well above the average marks. Fantasy managers should not view Cannon as a viable streaming option facing the Giants this afternoon.

Jonathan Cannon Starting on Sunday

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon (back) will be activated off the 15-day injured list and start against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. Cannon has been sidelined since early June due to a lower back strain. He only made one rehab appearance where he threw three scoreless innings. That being said, Cannon probably isn't stretched out yet, so he could be limited on Sunday. He has a 4.66 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 51/21 K/BB ratio across 12 games (10 starts) this season. Cannon isn't a recommended streaming option for Sunday's slate.

Jonathan Cannon Starting a Rehab Assignment This Week

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon (back) is being sent to Triple-A Charlotte to begin a minor-league rehab assignment this week, according to 670 The Score's Bruce Levine. Cannon thinks he'll need just one or two rehab starts before coming off the 15-day injured list. The 24-year-old should have a rotation spot waiting for him in Chicago when he's ready. Cannon has been out since early June due to a lower-back strain, but he could be back in early July to close out the first half of the season if he's able to avoid a setback during his short rehab stint on the farm. In his first 12 appearances (10 starts) this year, Cannon posted a 4.66 ERA (4.89 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with 51 strikeouts and 21 walks in 63 2/3 innings pitched. Cannon has never been much of a strikeout guy and relies on ground balls for the worst team in the American League, so his fantasy value is limited to AL-only leagues.

Jonathan Cannon Expected to Start Rehab Assignment Soon

Chicago White Sox general manager Chris Getz said that right-hander Jonathan Cannon (back) is expected to go on a minor-league rehab assignment soon. It's good news that Cannon is getting close to returning to game action, but with Aaron Civale now in Chicago's starting rotation after being acquired in a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday, there's one less rotation spot available in the Windy City. The 24-year-old former third-rounder in 2022 out of Georgia went 2-7 with a 4.66 ERA (4.90 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with 51 strikeouts and 21 walks in 63 2/3 innings over 12 outings (10 starts) this year before his back injury landed him on the 15-day injured list on June 13. Barring a setback once he begins his rehab assignment, Cannon could be back in the big leagues with the Pale Hose before the end of June.

Jonathan Cannon To Be Evaluated For Lower Back After Monday's Loss

Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable said Monday that starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon (back) will be evaluated in the coming days for his lower back. Cannon struggled in Monday's 13-1 loss to the Tigers. The 24-year-old managed just three innings, allowing five runs on four hits (including three home runs) and three walks with five strikeouts. Cannon said after the game about his back, "Bothered me a little bit out there, but I chose to go out there and try to compete". Fantasy managers should keep an eye out for news later in the week to get a better idea as to when Cannon may make his next appearance. He has gotten varying results this season and is now 2-7 with a 4.66 ERA, a 1.40 ERA, and a 7.21 K/9 rate in 12 appearances (10 starts) and 63 2/3 IP.

Jonathan Cannon to Start on Tuesday

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon (back) will make his next start on Tuesday against the hosting New York Mets at Citi Field, according to the Chicago Sun-Times' Kyle Williams. Cannon was scratched from his last scheduled start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers due to tightness in his lower back, but he's obviously feeling better now and will give it a go in a tough matchup against the Mets on the road this week. Even though the 24-year-old has pitched well with three quality starts in four outings in the month of May, Cannon will be a pretty risky fantasy streamer on Tuesday. Overall, the former third-rounder in 2022 out of Georgia has gone 2-5 with a 3.76 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with only 42 strikeouts and 17 walks in 55 innings over 10 outings (eight starts). He'll be going up against a Mets team that ranks ninth in MLB with a .732 OPS.

Jonathan Cannon Scratched With Back Tightness, Bryse Wilson to Start

Chicago White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon (back) has been scratched from his start on Saturday against the Texas Rangers due to lower-back tightness and is listed as day-to-day, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. With Cannon hurting, right-hander Bryse Wilson will make the start at Rate Field. It sounds like Cannon might be able to avoid a trip to the injured list, but it's unclear when he'll be able to take the mound again. The 24-year-old has only 42 strikeouts in 55 innings over his 10 outings (eight starts) this year, but he's been decent with a 3.76 ERA (4.06 FIP) and 1.31 WHIP in his second year in the big leagues. The Rangers are an excellent matchup with a .651 OPS (fourth-worst in baseball), but Wilson will still be a volatile and risky fantasy streamer on Saturday. In his four starts in 2025, he has allowed 13 earned runs on 27 hits (four homers) with eight walks and 10 K's in 17 2/3 frames.
