Kahlil Watson Will Join High-A

After being acquired from the Miami Marlins in the Jean Segura for Josh Bell deal, shortstop prospect Kahlil Watson will join High-A Lake County for the Cleveland Guardians. Watson, 20, is a former first-round pick in 2021 and could be an under the radar get for the Guardians. Watson has struggled this season with a .210 batting average to go along with seven homers, 22 RBI and 14 stolen bases, mostly in High-A ball. Still very young, the Guardians are hoping to tap into his athleticism that includes being very fast on the bases and a strong defensive asset. Watson isn't as hyped up as he was when he was selected by the Marlins, but he is still very young and has plenty of time to work his way to the big leagues. For now, dynasty managers can avoid Watson, but he should be monitored the rest of the way to see if he improves with a change of scenery.

Kahlil Watson Warming Up In Single-A

Miami Marlins shortstop prospect Kahlil Watson went 4-for-5 with a triple for Single-A Jupiter on Sunday. Watson, 19, is one of the Marlins top prospects and one of the top young shortstops in the sport, but has had an inconsistent season at the plate with him tending to get hot and cold every other month. For the season, Watson has hit .228 with nine homers, 43 RBI and 16 stolen bags. There is still plenty of potential for Watson to help managers across the board in future years, but he is only an option in dynasty leagues at the moment with his arrival to the big leagues a few years away.

Kahlil Watson Activated In Minors

Miami Marlins shortstop prospect Kahlil Watson has been activated and will play in the Florida Complex League on Friday. Watson has been out since July 1 due to disciplinary reasons, but he'll return for the second half of the minor league season. The 19-year-old left-handed hitter has batted .221/.274/.372 with eight home runs, 35 RBI, 36 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 252 plate appearances over 59 games for Single-A Jupiter in just his second professional season. Watson stands at only 5-foot-9 and 178 pounds, but his bat speed gives him plenty of raw power at the dish. He'll need to improve his approach at the plate and cut down on his strikeouts (99 in 231 at-bats) if he wants to make it to the big leagues as an everyday player for the Fish.

Kahlil Watson Striking Out Too Much In Single-A

Miami Marlins shortstop prospect Kahlil Watson went 1-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts for Single-A Jupiter on Tuesday. The Marlins first-round pick, 16th overall in 2021, Watson has struggled in Single-A after dominating Rookie Ball this past year. For the season, Watson is hitting .224 with six home runs, 26 RBI and nine stolen bases. The biggest issue the 19-year-old is having at the moment is his plate discipline. For the year, Watson has drawn just nine walks and struck out 73 times in 161 at-bats. The talented shortstop has five-tool potential and draws good hard contact, but his aggressiveness at the plate could be an issue and has shown to be this year. Despite some struggles this season, Watson has plenty of time to work out the kinks and at the moment is name for dynasty managers to keep an eye on with him a few years away from potentially making the big leagues.
