Chase DeLauter Making MLB Debut in Game 2 of Wild-Card Series

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter will make his major-league debut on Wednesday in Game 2 of the wild-card series against the division-rival Detroit Tigers and right-hander Casey Mize at Progressive Field. DeLauter is starting in center field and will hit seventh in the batting order. It's a bold move by Cleveland after falling down 1-0 in the series with a loss in Game 1 of the series on Tuesday. The 23-year-old DeLauter has lots of upside, but he also hasn't played in a game since July 11 in the minors due to a right-wrist injury that required surgery. The former first-rounder only played in 42 games at Triple-A Columbus and in the Arizona Fall League this year before his injury and hit .264/.379/.473 with an .852 OPS, seven home runs, 24 RBI and 28 runs scored. The Guards are looking for a spark given their lack of productivity in center field from Angel Martinez, but DeLauter is a big dice role in the postseason in a must-win game.

Chase DeLauter Will Make His Debut in the Wild Card Series

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter didn't make his major league debut during the regular season, but he will be on the active roster for the Wild Card series and will make his debut in the postseason. DeLauter is the team's No. 2 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, but he underwent surgery to repair a right hamate fracture back on July 23rd and has not played since. He hit .278 with five homers, 25 runs scored, 21 RBI, and a .384 wOBA in his 34 games at Triple-A before his injury. He will obviously be making a huge jump in competition, diving right into the postseason, but the lefty has a dynamic bat and has shown a high ceiling while navigating multiple injuries throughout his time in Cleveland's farm system. The Guardians could use his help in the outfield, and he could be the next surprise contributor in Cleveland's improbable postseason run. Update: DeLauter is on the active roster but not in the starting lineup for Game 1.

Chase DeLauter, Daniel Espino Headed to Arizona Fall League

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (wrist) is headed to the Arizona Fall League (AFL) this October. He'll be joined by seven other Guardians prospects, including one of the team's former top-ranked prospects, pitcher Daniel Espino. DeLauter has endured a multitude of injuries during his time in the minors, having never played in more than 57 games in any of the last three seasons, and has been on the shelf since mid-July with a wrist injury. Espino (shoulder) has had similar injury issues as well, having not been able to take the mound since early 2022. The AFL will help both players make up for lost time and help prepare for the 2026 season. Both have a chance to be in the majors next year, with DeLauter potentially able to make the team out of spring training.

Chase DeLauter Taking Live BP

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (hand) has cleared a key hurdle in his recovery from a right hamate fracture, now taking live batting practice. Before landing on the injured list July 11, DeLauter was slashing .278/.383/.476 at Triple-A, showing strong plate discipline and developing power. The 23-year-old, ranked as Cleveland's No. 2 prospect, is expected to compete for a major league roster spot in Spring Training next season. In dynasty leagues, DeLauter remains a premium target thanks to his blend of patience, power, and proximity to Cleveland, making him one of the top stashes available.

Chase DeLauter Resuming Baseball Activities

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (hand) has resumed baseball activities after undergoing hamate fracture incision surgery on July 23. The Guardians' second-ranked prospect was hitting well at Triple-A before the injury, but the recovery timeline ends his season in all likelihood. The former first-round draft pick was hitting .278 at Columbus with five home runs and a .383 OBP thanks to a strong 14.8 percent walk rate, even reaching base at least once via hit or walk in each of the 34 games he played there. The 23-year-old has had multiple injuries since he began his minor league career in 2023, and has yet to surpass 57 games played in a single season. Maybe next year will be the year he stays healthy, and if he does, there's a good chance he'll make his MLB debut. When on the field, the left-handed slugger offers solid power, contact, and on-base skills, making for a potentially valuable fantasy asset if hitting in the middle of the Cleveland lineup.

Chase DeLauter Undergoes Surgery on Hand, Out 6-8 Weeks

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (hand) visited wrist/hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham in Philadelphia on Tuesday, and, after undergoing an MRI on his ailing right hand, it was determined that he had a hook of the hamate fracture. The Guardians' second-ranked prospect underwent surgery on Wednesday, and recovery time is typically 6-to-8 weeks, which at the low end would leave the door open for a late-season return, but would basically end his season if it ends up being on the high end. It's yet another injury-plagued season for the oft-injured 23-year-old, and if he's played his last game of 2025, it would result in a .278/.383/.476 slash line with five home runs and a 22:23 BB:K in 34 games at Triple-A Columbus. The former first-rounder should be fully recovered by the spring and make a push for an MLB debut next year.

Chase DeLauter to Visit Hand Specialist this Week

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter is expected to visit a hand specialist early in the coming week. The former first-round draft pick has been out of action since July 11 with a wrist injury, and the fact he's meeting with a specialist doesn't bode well for a quick return, although details have been scarce as to what is ailing the left-handed slugger other than he was dealing with soreness. The Guardians' second-ranked prospect missed time over the last couple of seasons due to foot injuries and missed the start of 2025 after he underwent sports hernia surgery, so this has become a problematic trend for the 23-year-old. He was having a good season at Triple-A in his limited sample, slashing .278/.383/.476 with five home runs in 34 games, and looked like he was on the precipice of a major league debut, but those hopes could fade drastically depending on what comes of the upcoming visit with the specialist. We should have more clarity later in the week.

Chase DeLauter Sidelined With Wrist Injury; Evaluation Coming During Break

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter (wrist) was held out of the lineup for Triple-A Columbus on Sunday due to ongoing right wrist soreness. The 23-year-old also did not start Saturday night and will have the injury examined during the International League All-Star break. DeLauter, the No. 34 prospect in baseball, is slashing .278/.383/.476 with five home runs in 34 games with Columbus. He continues to flash high-end offensive potential but has struggled to stay on the field. The Guardians will hope for good news, as his health remains a key concern heading into the second half.

Chase DeLauter Goes Deep Wednesday

Cleveland Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in a 7-3 loss against Triple-A Louisville. The 23-year-old hit his first homer in July, where he has scuffled a bit at the plate in the limited time. He is hitting just .185/.267/.370 through 27 at-bats, but hopefully Wednesday night's homer signals a hot streak shortly. The Guardians' number two prospect has still excelled at Triple-A for the season with an .861 OPS. Under the hood, the quality of contact looks quite favorable as well, with an 11.3 percent barrel rate and 50.5 percent hard-hit rate. With the Guardians struggling to score runs consistently, we could see DeLauter debut with the club here later this summer.
