Brayan Rocchio's Hot Streak has Put him on the Waiver Map

Cleveland Guardians middle infielder Brayan Rocchio has been heating up at the plate this summer. The 25-year-old Venezuelan went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in Wednesday's 10-6 loss to the division-rival Minnesota Twins to extend his hitting streak to five games. During his five-game streak, he's gone 7-for-22 (.318) with a homer, a double, four RBI, and three runs scored. Extending back to June 18, Rocchio has slashed .296/.319/.452 with four home runs, six doubles, 16 RBI, and 14 runs scored in a stretch of 29 games. He has hit .299 (20-for-67) with an .826 OPS, four home runs, two doubles, 14 RBI, 10 runs scored, and a stolen base in 17 games and 70 plate appearances so far in July. The hot streak has boosted the switch-hitter's season line to .275/.338/.409 with a .746 OPS, nine home runs, 48 RBI, 15 steals, and 43 runs scored across his 345 at-bats. Fantasy managers looking for a quick batting average fix should consider riding Rocchio's hot bat, but long-term, he's unlikely to be a savior with a .258 xBA and a .306xwOBA.

Brayan Rocchio Emerging as a Breakout Candidate to Target on the Waiver Wire

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio is quietly in the midst of a breakout season in 2026. Across 359 plate appearances on the year, the 25-year-old is hitting .276/.343/.408 with eight home runs, 44 RBI, 40 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases. Rocchio's quality of contact metrics remain subpar, as he's logged just a 2.9% barrel rate and a 31.5% hard-hit rate. However, Rocchio has cut down on his swing-and-miss in a big way so far this season, lowering his strikeout rate from 20.1% in 2025 to 13.6% in 2026. As a switch-hitter who also brings plus defense at a premium position, Rocchio is a lock for everyday playing time in Cleveland as long as he remains healthy. He's also moved into the top third of the Guardians' batting order in recent weeks, which should help him rack up counting stats. In any league where he's not already rostered, Rocchio should be considered a priority waiver wire target.

Brayan Rocchio Expected to Start at Second Base

Cleveland Guardians infielder Brayan Rocchio is projected to open the 2026 regular season next week as the team's starter at second base, according to Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal. Rocchio, who was previously the team's regular shortstop, will form a double-play combination with shortstop Gabriel Arias. The 25-year-old switch-hitting Venezuelan has never hit much in the big leagues and doesn't really have notable speed, either, so it's unlikely he'll suddenly become a fantasy asset in mixed leagues in 2026 despite a strong finish to last year and a strong spring training. Rocchio came into Friday hitting .313 (10-for-32) with a homer, four RBI, three runs, and two steals in 12 Cactus League games. In his three big-league seasons, he's slashed just .222/.293/.327 with a .620 OPS, 13 homers, 88 RBI, 93 runs, and 18 stolen bases in 281 total games. If Rocchio falls into a deep slump at some point during the year, his job could be in danger at the keystone in Cleveland.

Brayan Rocchio Powers Guardians to 3-1 Win on Monday

Cleveland Guardians second baseman/shortstop Brayan Rocchio stepped up as an unlikely hero on Monday night, providing his team with a critical two-run homer in their 3-1 win in Arizona. His two-run blast came in the fifth inning against Zac Gallen and was just his third homer of the season. He has hit .237 with a .280 wOBA, which will establish a new career best if he can maintain it through the end of the season. In August, Rocchio is hitting .315 with a pair of homers and a .355 wOBA. Normally known for his defense, the 24-year-old is starting to be a middle-infield option in mixed leagues with his strong performance this month. The Guardians are three games back of the three teams tied for the three Wild Card spots, and they'll be counting on young hitters like Rocchio to step up as they try to stay in the playoff race down the stretch.

Guardians Send Brayan Rocchio To Triple-A

The Cleveland Guardians optioned shortstop Brayan Rocchio to Triple-A Columbus on Monday and recalled outfielder Will Brennan from Columbus in a corresponding move. Rocchio will go down to the farm to work on his offensive skills after starting the 2025 season with a .165/.235/.198 slash line in 35 games this year. With the 24-year-old now out of the picture in Cleveland for the time being, Gabriel Arias will start at shortstop and hit seventh on Monday against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. Brennan also draws into the starting lineup immediately for the series opener at Progressive Field, playing right field and batting ninth. Arias had already been seeing more playing time at the 6 with Rocchio struggling. The 25-year-old Venezuelan is slashing .264/.319/.416 with four long balls, 16 RBI 21 runs and two steals in his 125 at-bats in 2025.

Brayan Rocchio Out On Wednesday, Could Spend More Time On Bench

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the division-rival Minnesota Twins, and manager Stephen Vogt said that both Gabriel Arias and Daniel Schneemann have been playing better. It means that Rocchio could find himself on the bench more often than not moving forward after starting the year hitting .205 (15-for-73) with no home runs, six RBI and seven runs scored. It's the second straight day that the 24-year-old has been on the bench after going 0-for-4 on Monday. Schneemann is at second base and batting seventh on Wednesday, with Arias at short and batting sixth against Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez. The 25-year-old Arias has been much better offensively with a .270/.313/.472 slash line, four homers, 11 RBI and 14 runs in 89 at-bats. Rocchio is quickly losing fantasy value in AL-only leagues.

Brayan Rocchio Heads To The Bench On Tuesday

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio is out of the lineup on Tuesday against the Twins. The 24-year-old has been cold at the plate to start the year, but more so as of late, going 1-for-17 (.059) over his last five games. Gabriel Arias will slide over and man short while Daniel Schneemann will occupy the keystone, with Arias batting second and Schneemann batting seventh. Chris Paddack takes the mound for the Twins, who has been better since allowing nine earned runs in his first start of the year, but Cleveland has one of the higher implied run totals of the early games, so Guardians hitters could be an appealing group to stack. Arias specifically is 1-for-3 off of Paddack in his career, with the lone hit going down as a double.

Brayan Rocchio Starting Second Half On The Bench

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio will open the second half of the season on Friday on the bench versus the visiting San Diego Padres. Daniel Schneemann will make the start at short and will bat seventh for the Guardians against Padres knuckleballer Matt Waldron. Rocchio went hitless in the final 12 at-bats of the first half of the season and was on the bench for two of the final three games before this week's All-Star break in favor of Schneeman. He's hitting just .210/.305/.303 with a .608 OPS, three home runs, 17 RBI and seven stolen bases in 83 games in his first full season in the big leagues. Schneeman isn't exactly turning heads at the plate, but he does have one more home run than Rocchio in just 32 games played in his rookie campaign and could continue to take playing time away from Rocchio at the 6.

Brayan Rocchio Swipes Fifth Base

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Thursday's loss against the Houston Astros. The stolen base would be the fifth of the season for the 23-year-old. Outside of the basepaths, Rocchio has struggled to swing the bat. On the season, he is hitting a weak .218 and is homerless with four RBI. Despite playing on most days, the Guardians No. 9 prospect just hasn't done enough with the bat to convince managers to roster him. He can safely remain on the waiver wire.

Brayan Rocchio Getting A Rest Day Tuesday

Cleveland Guardians shortstop Brayan Rocchio is taking the day off on Tuesday against the visiting Chicago White Sox. The rookie is the club's primary shortstop and has started off the 2024 season in good shape offensively, going 9-for-33 (.273) with a league-leading five doubles, two RBI and four runs scored in his first nine games. Rocchio should be back in the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against Chicago on Wednesday. With the 23-year-old starting on the bench, Gabriel Arias is starting at shortstop and batting ninth against White Sox right-hander Michael Soroka. Arias makes for a poor DFS play in the nine-hole and has two hits in his first 13 at-bats this year. He's never faced Soroka in his career.
