Guardians Being Cautious with Jose Ramirez

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) missed Friday's game against the San Diego Padres because the team is managing his workload as he continues to progress from his hamate bone injury. While manager Stephen Vogt has said that the 33-year-old has been progressing well, the team must do what is best for everyone, which included having him miss Friday's game. This continues to align with what was mentioned when Ramirez was first activated from the Injured List on July 22, as the team said it would be mindful of how often he plays. This calls into question the timing of his return, as he did not go through a rehab assignment and instead returned directly to the Guardians' lineup. Since then, he has posted a .197 batting average with zero extra-base hits. He has, however, stolen five bases and walked 12 times, showing his incredible eye at the plate and on the basepaths. This situation remains one to monitor down the stretch, though fantasy baseball managers should continue to roster him every day regardless of how well he plays, simply because his upside is too good.

Jose Ramirez Back in Thursday's Lineup Against Mets

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) is starting at third base and batting third in the series finale on Thursday against the visiting New York Mets and right-hander Nolan McLean, according to MLB.com. Ramirez is returning to action after missing the last two games due to soreness in his surgically-repaired left hand. It's great to see the 33-year-old Dominican switch-hitter back in the starting nine, but fantasy managers still have to be a bit concerned that he has gone 8-for-41 (.195) with zero home runs, two RBI, six runs scored, three stolen bases, five walks, and two strikeouts in 11 games since returning from his fractured left hamate bone. The seven-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger winner has not been himself in 2026, and his hand injury did not help. J-Ram returns to Thursday's tilt hitting just .233/.331/.388 with a .720 OPS, 10 homers, 35 RBI, 27 stolen bases, and 48 runs scored in 83 games and 360 plate appearances. He's still a must-start in most fantasy leagues, but it would be nice for him to show some signs of life at the plate. Ramirez has never faced McLean.

Jose Ramirez Not Ready to Return on Wednesday

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) will miss a second straight game due to a sore hand on Wednesday in the team's matchup against the visiting New York Mets, according to MLB.com. Rookie infielder Angel Genao will make the start at the hot corner for Cleveland and will hit in the nine-hole against Mets right-hander Christian Scott. Ramirez was out of action on Tuesday due to soreness in his surgically-repaired left hand. The 33-year-old Dominican veteran and seven-time All-Star missed extended time already this year following surgery to fix a fractured hamate bone in his left hand, so it's bad news that he's still dealing with discomfort. J-Ram hasn't looked comfortable at the plate since his return on July 22, going 8-for-41 (.195) with a .478 OPS, zero homers, two RBI, three steals, six runs scored, five walks, and two strikeouts in just 10 games played. Don't be surprised if Ramirez lands back on the IL, which would be another tough break in what has been a bust of a season for the perennial MVP candidate. He's hitting just .233/.331/.388 with a .720 OPS, 10 homers, 35 RBI, 27 steals, and 48 runs scored in his 82 games played in his 14th year in the majors.

Jose Ramirez Out With Hand Soreness on Tuesday

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) is out of the starting lineup on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets due to soreness in his surgically-repaired left hand, according to Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Gabriel Arias is making the start at the hot corner and will bat seventh for Cleveland against Mets left-hander Sean Manaea. It's concerning that it's the same hand that Ramirez had surgery on to fix a fractured hamate bone, as this is an injury that could very well send the All-Star third baseman back to the injured list. The 33-year-old seven-time All-Star has only played in 82 games (360 plate appearances) and is hitting an un-J-Ram-like .233/.331/.388 with a .720 OPS, 10 home runs, 35 RBI, 27 stolen bases, and 48 runs scored after reaching the 30-homer mark in three of the last five seasons for the Guards. Ramirez has had a tough time bouncing back from his original hand injury, as he's posted a .478 OPS since the All-Star break. This setback should have his fantasy managers worried that he won't bounce back to his pre-injury form again until maybe next year.

Jose Ramirez Reinstated and Starting on Wednesday

The Cleveland Guardians reinstated third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned outfield prospect Kahlil Watson to Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move, according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Ramirez has skipped a minor-league rehab assignment and will start at third base and bat in the two-hole in his return on Wednesday against the division-rival Minnesota Twins and right-hander Bailey Ober. Despite being out for over five weeks with a broken hamate bone in his hand, Ramirez should be returned to all starting lineups immediately against a pitcher whom he knows well in his career. In 28 career at-bats against Ober, J-Ram is hitting .321 with a 1.013 OPS, two home runs, and five RBI. The 33-year-old switch-hitting Dominican has missed valuable time in 2026, and he'll return to a .239/.339/.418 slash line with a .757 OPS, 10 home runs, 33 RBI, 42 runs scored, and 24 stolen bases across 268 at-bats. Ramirez's power might not come back right away, but he should still be useful for his speed and will be a must-start once again in all fantasy formats.

Jose Ramirez Could Skip Rehab Assignment

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (left hand) is progressing well and may be activated without a minor-league rehab assignment. Ramirez had surgery June 16 to remove the hook of a fractured left hamate bone, and the club originally expected him to miss about six weeks. There is still no firm return date, but even discussing a direct jump back to Cleveland is a good sign. Ramirez was batting .239/.339/.418 with 10 homers, 42 runs, 33 RBI, and 24 steals through 72 games before the injury. Fantasy managers should keep him locked into an IL spot. Gabriel Arias was activated when Ramirez went down and has covered most of the work at third base, but that playing time will dry up once the Guardians star is cleared.

Jose Ramirez Hitting Off a Tee, to Return Before All-Star Break?

Cleveland Guardians All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) has started hitting off a tee and will progress to overhand batting practice in the coming days, according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. General manager Chris Antonetti said that Ramirez has met each checkpoint so far in his recovery from surgery to fix a fractured hamate bone in his hand, but he still has more boxes to check. The Guardians remain hopeful that J-Ram can return before the All-Star break from July 13-16. The 33-year-old Dominican switch-hitter had the stitches removed from his surgically-repaired left hand earlier this week and is making good progress. Ramirez hasn't lived up to his lofty expectations so far in 2026, but if he's healthy in the second half, he still can carry a fantasy team. Through his first 72 games (314 plate appearances) in 2026 in his 14th year in the league, Ramirez is slashing .239/.339/.418 with a .757 OPS, 10 homers, 33 RBI, 24 steals, and 42 runs scored. J-Ram should be stashed in all fantasy baseball leagues.

Jose Ramirez has Stitches Removed, Could Resume Swinging Soon

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) is making good progress after having surgery to fix a fractured hamate bone in his left hand, according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. Ramirez had the stitches removed from his hand on Tuesday, is feeling good, and could soon resume swinging a bat in his rehab process. The 33-year-old was previously able to resume gripping a bat and has been doing fielding drills while throwing at 140 feet. The seven-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger winner broke his left hamate bone against the Detroit Tigers on June 13 and was placed on the 10-day injured list the next day. The Guardians said he'd miss around five to seven weeks of action, with this Tuesday marking the two-week mark since J-Ram had surgery. Assuming Ramirez has no setbacks, he's still another three to five weeks away from returning to the big-league roster. Although his numbers are down compared to his lofty standards, Ramirez must be held in all fantasy formats. He's still logged a .757 OPS with 10 home runs, 18 doubles, 33 RBI, and 24 stolen bases while appearing in each of the team's first 72 games.

Jose Ramirez Undergoes Hand Surgery, Expected to Miss 5-7 Weeks

Cleveland Guardians All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) underwent surgery to fix a broken hamate bone in his left hand on Tuesday and is expected to miss five to seven weeks, according to Zack Meisel of MLB.com. Ramirez injured his hand over the weekend against the division-rival Detroit Tigers, and he won't be ready to rejoin the big-league roster until after the mid-July All-Star break. Even though the 33-year-old seven-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger hasn't been performing up to his usual high standards in 2026, fantasy managers should consider him a must-hold in all traditional leagues while he recovers from hand surgery. The Dominican switch-hitting third baseman is currently slashing .239/.339/.418 with a .757 OPS, 10 home runs, 33 RBI, 24 stolen bases, and 42 runs scored across his 268 at-bats in 2026. Until J-Ram can return from his hand injury, utility infielder Gabriel Arias is expected to handle most of the playing time at the hot corner in Cleveland.

Jose Ramirez Heading to Injured List with Fractured Hamate Bone

Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (hand) made an early exit from Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Ramirez was pulled in the sixth inning with an undisclosed injury. Now, Ramirez has been diagnosed with a fractured left hamate bone and will head to the Injured List. The Guardians haven't given a timetable for Ramirez, but he figures to miss at least a month of action. The expectation is that David Fry and Daniel Schneemann will see increased opportunities at the hot corner. The Guardians could turn to prospect Angel Genao, but that's likely dependent on how long Ramirez is going to be sidelined. This is a tough break for the Guardians and for fantasy managers who will be without the superstar slugger for an extended period of time.
