Angel Martinez Removed with Left Foot Injury

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Martinez was replaced by Stuart Fairchild in the fifth inning due to left foot inflammation. Martinez struck out in both of his plate appearances before leaving the game. Fantasy managers should consider Martinez day-to-day until further notice. Martinez could undergo further testing to determine the severity of the issue. Fairchild figures to fill in for a few days, but George Valera or CJ Kayfus could be recalled if Martinez does land on the Injured List.

Is Angel Martinez an Undervalued Waiver-Wire Target?

As the early portion of the 2026 MLB season gives way to the summer months, Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez looks like he could be on the verge of a breakout campaign. Across his first 186 plate appearances of the year, the 24-year-old is hitting .246/.286/.468 with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored, and eight stolen bases. Martinez has added significant power while also reducing his swing-and-miss, raising his barrel rate from 3.5% to 8.5% and cutting his strikeout rate from 22.7% to 18.8%. He's also been significantly more aggressive as a runner, as his current stolen base total (eight) already matches what he posted across 139 games in 2025. While Martinez may not provide elite production in any one fantasy category, he profiles as a balanced contributor who should provide quality counting stats due to his everyday role in the Cleveland outfield. He should hold broad waiver wire appeal for fantasy managers across most formats.

Angel Martinez a Power Bat Worth Adding Off the Waiver Wire?

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez is having a solid season at the plate, and his power surge is enough to justify adding him off the waiver wire in fantasy baseball. Martinez homered 11 times across 139 games last year, and he's already up to nine homers through just 48 games this year. He also has 18 stolen bases, as well as a career-high eight stolen bases. So far, he's slashing .263/.305/.500 with a 4% walk rate, 19% strikeout rate, and 124 wRC+. We'd like to see the K/BB ratio improve, but we're certainly impressed by his power and speed. He also has the ability to play all three outfield spots, which helps get him in the lineup on an everyday basis. Martinez currently ranks as RotoBaller's #61 outfielder, and he is available in approximately 50% of fantasy baseball leagues.

Angel Martinez Stepping Up as a Top Waiver-Wire Addition

Cleveland Guardians second baseman/outfielder Angel Martinez offers both power and speed potential as he continues to earn playing time in the Cleveland lineup. He's hit near the top of the order lately, giving him even more run production upside, and he has hit .318 (21-for-66) over his last 18 games with four doubles, five homers, four stolen bases, and a .398 wOBA. Martinez remains ultra-aggressive at the plate and did not draw a single walk in those 18 games, with just three walks all year to go with his 18 strikeouts. While he remains aggressive in his approach, he has still managed to make good contact in those 18 games, with a 45.3% hard-hit rate and 13.2% barrel rate. If he continues hitting near the top of the order, he has intriguing potential with five homers and five stolen bases in his first 27 games. The 24-year-old switch-hitter has only played the outfield this season, but still has infield eligibility in some formats, making him an even easier option to slide around your roster to fill in holes. As long as he keeps hitting near the top of the order and providing big-play production, he's definitely worth a look in standard-sized leagues.

Angel Martinez Worth a Look in Deeper Leagues

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez got off to a miserable start at the plate, going 3-for-21 (.143) over his first nine games, however, he shook off the rust and went a sizzling 10-for-17 (.588) over the next four contests, with two doubles, a home run, six RBI, four runs scored, and three stolen bases. The Dominican hit 11 home runs for the Guardians in 2025, so there is a little pop in his bat, and an 88.3 percent contact rate is easily the best of his career so far since debuting in 2024. The switch-hitter has done nearly all of his damage from the left side of the plate, with a 234 wRC+ there compared to an 18 wRC+ from the right side, so make sure to check the handedness of the pitcher if considering for DFS. The 24-year-old could be a speculative waiver add in deeper leagues in hopes he'll continue the hot hitting, and there's pretty much nowhere to go but up from the right side of the plate. The youngster is available in over 70 percent of Yahoo! leagues and is eligible at both 2B and OF.

Angel Martinez Explodes at the Plate in Blowout of Royals

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez had a big day at the plate in the team's 10-2 blowout win on Wednesday over the Kansas City Royals at Progressive Field. Hitting in the two-hole while playing left field, Martinez went 4-for-5 with a grand slam and a strikeout. The ball was jumping off of Martinez's bat on Wednesday, and it led to his first runs batted in of the season and his first long ball. The 24-year-old Dominican switch-hitter came into Wednesday's contest against KC with a .208 average (5-for-24) with a double, three runs scored, and a stolen base in 10 games played for the Guards. Most of Martinez's playing time in Cleveland has come against left-handed pitchers, but he looked good against righties on Wednesday, which could earn him some more playing time going forward if he continues to make loud contact. His grand slam came in the eighth inning off right-hander Steven Cruz.

Angel Martinez Homers, Drives in Three in Win Over Detroit

Cleveland Guardians utility man Angel Martinez had a big night in his team's 7-0 win over the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Martinez went 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs, and three RBI to help down the AL Central-leading Tigers. The 23-year-old ripped a solo homer off Detroit starter Jack Flaherty in the fifth inning to give the Guardians a 3-0 lead. Martinez is off to a nice start to the season, hitting .289 with two homers, 14 runs, 15 RBI, and four stolen bases across 114 at-bats. He's worth a look as a reserve in deeper, AL-only formats going forward.

Angel Martinez on the Bench Again

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez is sitting out of Friday's series opener against the hosting Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. Nolan Jones will start in center field and hit in the two-hole against Reds right-hander Brady Singer. This will be the second time in the last four games that Martinez finds himself starting on the bench since the team recalled outfielder Will Brennan, who is in right field and in the nine-hole on Friday. It's bad news for fantasy managers that were using the 23-year-old Dominican in their starting lineups in AL-only leagues early in the season. The switch-hitter has only gone deep once, but he's batting .295 (28-for-95) and has added 11 RBI, 11 runs and four stolen bases. He has just one hit in his last 12 at-bats, though. Jones has gone just 4-for-26 (.154) in 12 games in May, but he has hit .714 with two RBI in seven career at-bats against Singer.

Angel Martinez Sitting On Monday

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez is out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers at Progressive Field. Nolan Jones will make the start in center field and will hit eighth against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. Martinez will take a seat for Cleveland after starting each of their last seven games. The 23-year-old Dominican has been seeing most of the playing time in center for the Guardians with Lane Thomas (wrist) on the injured list. He's gone 8-for-32 (.250) with a homer, double, six RBI, a steal and five runs scored in 10 games so far in May. The counting stats have been lacking, but overall Martinez has been great for those in AL-only leagues with a .303 average (27-for-89). Jones has plenty of power to spare but is hitting just .156 (14-for-90) on the year with two homers. He's gone hitless in two career at-bats against Peralta.

Nolan Jones, Angel Martinez Out Against Twins

Cleveland Guardians outfielders Nolan Jones and Angel Martinez are both getting a day off on Thursday against the division-rival Minnesota Twins at Progressive Field. Jhonkensy Noel is starting in right field and batting fifth, while Daniel Schneemann gets the start in center field and is hitting out of the six-hole against Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson. Jones is hitting just .171 (12-for-70) on the year with a homer, five RBI and two steals, so it's possible the 26-year-old left-handed hitter could start losing more playing time against right-handed pitching. Martinez is hitting .333 (19-for-57) but hasn't homered and has only five RBI. The Dominican outfielder has seen most of the playing time in center with Lane Thomas (wrist) on the injured list. Noel and Schneemann have faced Woods Richardson a combined seven times and haven't recorded a single hit.
