Angel Martinez Takes Batting Practice for First Time

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) took batting practice on Saturday for the first time since landing on the 10-day injured list on June 16 with a fractured left foot, according to MLB.com. An MRI exam and CT scan showed a non-displaced fracture after Martinez left the game on June 13 against the division-rival Detroit Tigers. At the time, he was estimated to need four to six weeks to recover. Barring a setback, Martinez could return to the big-league roster at the end of July. The 24-year-old had his walking boot removed last week. Before his foot injury, the 24-year-old Dominican switch-hitter was batting .239 (54-for-226) with 11 home runs, 33 RBI, 28 runs scored, and nine stolen bases in his 66 games in his third year in the majors. Martinez was struggling in 11 games in June before fracturing his foot, going 9-for-41 (.220) with two homers, two doubles, four RBI, four runs, one steal, one walk, and 12 strikeouts. He's walking just 2.9% of the time in 2026, so Martinez's plate discipline must improve for him to gain more traction off the waiver wire when he's healthy. He's currently rostered in just 15% of Yahoo leagues.

Angel Martinez No Longer Wearing a Walking Boot

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot), who is on the 10-day injured list with a non-displaced foot fracture, is no longer wearing a walking boot and has been hitting off a tee and playing catch in between rounds of treatment, according to Tim Stebbins of MLB.com. The Guardians said on June 16 that the 24-year-old is expected to miss four to six weeks with his injury. Martinez said on Saturday that he's feeling "way, way better." His timeline could line up for him to return in mid-to-late July, between the All-Star break (July 13-16) and the trade deadline on Aug. 3. The good news for Cleveland is that they reinstated fellow outfielder Chase DeLauter (ribs) from the IL on Sunday. Martinez will be returning to a .239/.276/.442 slash line with a .719 OPS, 11 home runs, 33 RBI, 28 runs scored, and nine steals in his 226 at-bats. His 11 home runs tied his career high set just last year. Martinez has dropped his strikeout rate slightly from 2025 to 21.8% this year, but his career-low 2.9% walk rate doesn't make him a candidate to help in average or on-base percentage. He's rostered in only 16% of Yahoo leagues.

Angel Martinez Placed on Injured List With Fractured Foot

The Cleveland Guardians placed outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot, according to Cade Cracas of Sports Illustrated. In a corresponding move, the team recalled outfielder Petey Halpin from Triple-A Columbus. Martinez suffered the injury on Saturday when he fouled a ball off his foot, and now he'll likely miss more than the required 10 days on the IL. The 24-year-old Dominican switch-hitter has hit just .239 (54-for-226) on the year, but he has already matched his career high with 11 home runs in 66 games (243 plate appearances), adding 33 RBI, nine stolen bases, and 28 runs scored for the Guards. With rookie outfielder Chase DeLauter (ribs) currently dealing with a rib-cage contusion, David Fry has been needed to play the outfield in the last two ballgames. Martinez cleared the fences twice in 11 games in July, but he was hitting .220 (9-for-41) with a walk and 12 strikeouts before getting hurt on Saturday. It's unclear how long he'll be sidelined, but it could be up to around a month, meaning Martinez probably won't be back before the mid-July All-Star break.

Angel Martinez Not Ready to Return on Sunday With Bruised Foot

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field, according to MLB.com. Daniel Schneemann is starting in center field for Cleveland and will bat fifth against Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (groin), who is making his return from the injured list. Martinez will take a seat after fouling a pitch off his left foot in the team's victory on Saturday. Thankfully, X-rays came back negative, and manager Stephen Vogt hinted that Martinez would be available off the bench on Sunday. With an off day coming on Monday, Martinez has a good shot at returning to the starting lineup for Tuesday's series opener on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 24-year-old Dominican switch-hitter has already tied his career high with 11 home runs in 66 games in 2026 and is slashing .239/.276/.442 across 243 plate appearances. Schneemann is hitting .182 with a .455 OPS and an RBI in 11 career at-bats against Mize.

Angel Martinez Suffers Foot Contusion

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Detroit Tigers. Martinez suffered a left foot contusion when he fouled a ball off his foot during the first inning of this contest. He stayed in the game for a bit, but was replaced by Steven Kwan in the third inning. The X-rays on his left foot came back negative for any fractures. For now, fantasy managers should consider Martinez as day-to-day. He's the second Guardians outfielder to go down during this game, with Chase DeLauter (ribs) leaving as well. The Guardians will need to make some roster changes if neither player can get back in the lineup within a few days.

Angel Martinez Back From Foot Injury on Tuesday

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) is starting in right field on Tuesday and will hit fifth against the hosting New York Yankees and right-hander Cam Schlittler in the Bronx, according to MLB.com. Martinez returns to the fold after suffering a right-foot strain during Saturday's contest versus the Boston Red Sox. The 24-year-old Dominican outfielder will be looking to bust out of a slump at the end of May that saw him go 5-for-37 (.135) with a double, triple, four RBI, one run scored, no walks, and eight strikeouts in 10 games since May 19. After the recent cold stretch, Martinez is slashing .243/.281/.449 with a .729 OPS, nine home runs, 29 RBI, eight steals, and 24 runs scored in 55 games across 200 plate appearances in his second full season in the majors. Martinez isn't much of an option for average or on-base percentage, but his power/speed profile makes him a nice asset for outfield depth in deeper mixed leagues. He's currently rostered in 33% of Yahoo leagues.

Angel Martinez Expected to Make Quick Return from Foot Injury, Remains a Top Waiver Wire Target

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) is currently considered day-to-day as he battles a mid-foot strain that forced him to exit early from his team's game against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. However, Martinez is not expected to require a trip to the injured list and could be ready to go for the start of Cleveland's three-game set with the New York Yankees on Tuesday. The 24-year-old is in the midst of a breakout season so far in 2026, hitting .243/.281/.449 with nine home runs, 29 RBI, 24 runs scored, and eight stolen bases across 200 plate appearances. While Martinez's 3.0% walk rate brings his plate skills into question, he's made up for it by raising his barrel rate from 3.5% in 2025 to 8.1% this season. As a switch-hitter, Martinez has established himself as an everyday staple in the Guardians outfield, which should allow him to continue to rack up counting stats and stolen bases. Particularly in deeper leagues, Martinez profiles as a valuable compiler who should be a priority on the waiver wire for fantasy managers.

Angel Martinez Removed with Left Foot Injury

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez (foot) was forced to make an early exit from Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox. Martinez was replaced by Stuart Fairchild in the fifth inning due to left foot inflammation. Martinez struck out in both of his plate appearances before leaving the game. Fantasy managers should consider Martinez day-to-day until further notice. Martinez could undergo further testing to determine the severity of the issue. Fairchild figures to fill in for a few days, but George Valera or CJ Kayfus could be recalled if Martinez does land on the Injured List.

Is Angel Martinez an Undervalued Waiver-Wire Target?

As the early portion of the 2026 MLB season gives way to the summer months, Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez looks like he could be on the verge of a breakout campaign. Across his first 186 plate appearances of the year, the 24-year-old is hitting .246/.286/.468 with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 24 runs scored, and eight stolen bases. Martinez has added significant power while also reducing his swing-and-miss, raising his barrel rate from 3.5% to 8.5% and cutting his strikeout rate from 22.7% to 18.8%. He's also been significantly more aggressive as a runner, as his current stolen base total (eight) already matches what he posted across 139 games in 2025. While Martinez may not provide elite production in any one fantasy category, he profiles as a balanced contributor who should provide quality counting stats due to his everyday role in the Cleveland outfield. He should hold broad waiver wire appeal for fantasy managers across most formats.

Angel Martinez a Power Bat Worth Adding Off the Waiver Wire?

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Angel Martinez is having a solid season at the plate, and his power surge is enough to justify adding him off the waiver wire in fantasy baseball. Martinez homered 11 times across 139 games last year, and he's already up to nine homers through just 48 games this year. He also has 18 stolen bases, as well as a career-high eight stolen bases. So far, he's slashing .263/.305/.500 with a 4% walk rate, 19% strikeout rate, and 124 wRC+. We'd like to see the K/BB ratio improve, but we're certainly impressed by his power and speed. He also has the ability to play all three outfield spots, which helps get him in the lineup on an everyday basis. Martinez currently ranks as RotoBaller's #61 outfielder, and he is available in approximately 50% of fantasy baseball leagues.
