Kutter Crawford Hopes to be Throwing by October

Boston Red Sox starter Kutter Crawford (wrist) is recovering well from the surgery that he had on his right wrist back on July 2, which was a procedure that ended his season. He anticipates that he will be throwing by October, leading to the hope that he will be ready by Spring Training. It has been a rough year for Crawford, who will end up not pitching at all in 2025. Following a breakout season in 2024, where he finished with a 4.36 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP, he started the season on the injured list with right patellar tendiopathy. While he was rehabbing, the right-hander injured himself with an off-field incident while doing yardwork at home. His progress this offseason will be something to monitor, as he could be an option late in 2026 drafts.

Kutter Crawford Undergoes Wrist Surgery

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford (wrist) underwent wrist surgery on July 2 to repair the stabilizing sheath in his right wrist, according to a report from MassLive's Christopher Smith. Crawford will "most likely" miss the remainder of the 2025 season as a result of the injury. It's been a completely lost year for the 29-year-old right-hander, as he began the year on the injured list with patellar tendinopathy in his right knee. The wrist injury occurred in an undisclosed off-field incident before he could start a rehab assignment for the knee injury. Crawford was a useful arm for Boston in 2023, going 9-16 in 183 2/3 innings (33 starts) with a 4.36 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 175 strikeouts. If he's able to work his way back to full strength in time for the 2026 season, he should be back on the radar of fantasy managers.

Kutter Crawford to Have Wrist Surgery, "Most Likely" Done for the Year

Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford (wrist) will undergo surgery on his right wrist, according to manager Alex Cora, and he is "most likely" to miss the rest of the season. Crawford will end up missing the entire 2025 campaign after initially beginning the regular season on the injured list with a right-knee injury that he began dealing with in the offseason. Once the 29-year-old goes under the knife, the BoSox should have a better idea of how long he'll be out before he's able to resume a throwing progression. The former 16th-round selection in 2017 out of Florida Gulf Coast University made a career-high 33 starts last year and went 9-16 with a 4.36 ERA (4.65 FIP) and 1.12 WHIP with 175 strikeouts, 51 walks and a league-high 34 home runs allowed in 183 2/3 innings. If he's healthy by spring training next year, Crawford should compete for a rotation spot in Boston.

Kutter Crawford Shut Down, Will Undergo MRI on Wrist

The Boston Red Sox have shut down starter Kutter Crawford (wrist/knee) after he felt more pain in his injured right wrist, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic. The righty will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the issue. This is the second time in the past few weeks that the Red Sox have had to pause Crawford's rehab because of his wrist. He hasn't pitched at all this year after starting the season on the injured list with right-patellar tendinopathy. The 29-year-old made a career-high 33 starts a season ago and posted a 4.36 ERA with 8.58 K/9 and 2.5 BB/9 in 183 2/3 innings. Crawford could factor into Boston's rotation this summer if he comes back, but it's up in the air whether he'll be able to pitch at all in 2025.

Kutter Crawford Set for Bullpen Session Friday

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford (knee/wrist) will throw a bullpen session on Friday, reports Christopher Smith of MassLive.com. He also threw a bullpen on Tuesday, which must have gone smoothly with another one already scheduled. This is good news for the right-hander, who had his rehab paused after experiencing wrist pain while throwing a couple of weeks ago. The original injury that has kept him out all season was right patellar tendinopathy. The 29-year-old will continue to work his way back to hopefully improve on the 4.36 ERA and 1.12 WHIP he posted in 2024, although a spot in Boston's rotation may be tough to come by after they acquired Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison to add depth.

Kutter Crawford Not "Feeling Great"

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that right-hander Kutter Crawford (knee, wrist) wasn't "feeling great," which is why he's back to playing catch instead of throwing bullpen sessions. It's a setback for Crawford, who has yet to pitch in 2025. The 29-year-old made a career-high 33 starts last year, lost a league-high 16 games and allowed a league-high 34 home runs, and then injured his knee in spring training. A wrist injury has given him problems of late, and he doesn't appear to be close to returning from the 60-day injured list. At this point, fantasy managers in deeper leagues shouldn't expect Crawford back until sometime in the second half of the season. When/if Crawford makes it back in 2025, he won't be guaranteed a spot in Boston's starting rotation and might be ticketed for a long-relief role.

Kutter Crawford Doesn't Have Structural Damage in his Wrist

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that right-hander Kutter Crawford's (knee, wrist) doesn't have any structural damage with his wrist and has been sent back to Fort Myers, Florida, to throw a bullpen session this weekend and see how he feels. Crawford hasn't pitched all year while rehabbing from right-patellar tendinopathy and then recently had his minor-league rehab assignment paused due to pain in his wrist. The 29-year-old could restart his rehab assignment sometime next week if he gets through his bullpen this weekend feeling good. Based on how slowly things have gone for Crawford in 2025, there's no guarantee that he'll be able to make his season debut before the All-Star break in mid-July. The former 16th-rounder in 2017 out of Florida Gulf Coast University made a career-high 33 starts in 2024 and allowed a league-high 34 homers with a career-low 8.6 K/9 in 183 2/3 innings.

Kutter Crawford Expected to Start Rehab Assignment

Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford (knee) is expected to begin a rehab assignment this coming week. Crawford threw live batting practice on Saturday and did not face any setbacks after the session. The 29-year-old hit the injured list with right patellar tendinopathy on March 27. He was later shifted to the 60-day injured list. Given the time he has missed, fantasy managers should expect Crawford to participate in a lengthy rehab assignment. Last season, Crawford logged 183 2/3 innings to the tune of a 4.36 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. During this stretch, he struck out 175 batters and allowed walks at a strong 6.7% rate. When Crawford is cleared to return, fantasy managers should expect to compete for a role in the starting rotation.

Kutter Crawford to Throw Three-Inning Live BP Session on Thursday

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that right-hander Kutter Crawford (knee) will throw a three-inning live batting practice session on Thursday. Crawford is still on the mend after suffering from right patellar tendinopathy, but he could be cleared to start a minor-league rehab assignment if his session on Thursday without a hitch. Because Crawford has not pitched at all during the 2025 season, he should be expected to require a lengthy rehab assignment. Barring a setback with his knee injury, the 29-year-old hurler probably won't be able to make his season debut in Boston's starting rotation until at least the middle of June. Crawford made a career-high 33 starts a year ago and had a league-high 16 losses and allowed a league-high 34 home runs in 183 2/3 innings pitched. He won't be guaranteed a role in Boston's rotation when he's finally ready to return.

Kutter Crawford Moved to 60-Day Injured List

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford (knee) has been transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on Friday. This move shouldn't shock anyone as Crawford still needs at least a month to recover from his knee injury. The Red Sox shifted Crawford to the 60-day IL in order to open up a roster spot for right-hander Nick Burdi on the 40-man roster. The organization is hopeful that Crawford can get on the mound in possibly June or July. Crawford isn't someone that needs to be held onto with his timetable unclear right now.
