Matt Gorski Moved to the 60-Day Injured List

Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman/outfielder Matt Gorski (undisclosed) was transferred from the seven-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, meaning the 27-year-old will be out until after the All-Star break. There has been no news on exactly what injury Gorski is dealing with, but he won't be back in action for a while. Before the injury, the 27-year-old made some headlines early in the season when he made his debut with the Pirates and homered in his first at-bat. He hit .195 in his 15 games in the majors with two homers and a .259 wOBA. He was returned to Triple-A when Spencer Horwitz was able to return from his injury. Gorski played just four games and went 1-for-9 after heading back to Indianapolis before landing on the injured list. He could get another chance for the Pirates late in the season, depending on what exactly the injury is that he's battling.

Matt Gorski Draws Second Start At 1B, Will Hit Sixth On Tuesday

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Matt Gorski will make his second career start Tuesday, manning first base and hitting sixth in the team's matchup with the Cubs. The former second-round draft pick debuted on April 24, hitting a solo home run for his first career hit. The 6-foot-2 slugger offers a little pop and speed, hitting 23 home runs and stealing 15 bases in 113 games at Triple-A last year. He'll have a tough test against lefty Shota Imanaga on Tuesday, but he could be a cheap DFS dart throw in hopes he hits another home run. Enmanuel Valdez will take a seat after starting the last three games at first base for the Pirates.

Matt Gorski Could Make Opening Day Roster

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Matt Gorski is making a strong push to begin the season on the MLB roster. Throughout camp, Gorski has begun seeing time at first base with Spencer Horwitz (wrist) sidelined, improving his defensive versatility. The Pirates are lacking a depth outfielder, and Gorski could be given the edge due to his ability to play first base. The 27-year-old has also made an impact during his first taste of the Grapefruit League. Gorski has gone deep three times through three games and held an impressive 2.429 OPS. The former second-round selection was once considered a top prospect in the Pittsburgh system but struggled during his first look at the upper levels of the minor leagues in 2023. However, Gorski got back on track last summer as he held a .257/.319/.522 line with 23 home runs in 113 games at Triple-A. If he does make the Opening Day roster, he could have value in deeper NL-only formats.

Matt Gorski Showing Power At Triple-A

Pittsburgh Pirates outfield prospect Matt Gorski has been showcasing his raw power this past week and approaching his major league debut. In his past seven games, the 26-year-old has launched five home runs and tallied 13 RBI with a .310/.333/.897 line. Across 38 total games this season with Triple-A Indianapolis, he holds a .275/.308/.603 line with nine long balls, 37 RBI, and three swiped bags. This is a significant improvement compared to the .190/.262/.414 line he posted across 15 games at Triple-A last summer. Gorski should remain on your waiver wire for now but could be worth a speculative add in deeper leagues if he is promoted to the City of Bridges later this summer.
