Miguel Ullola Fires Quality Start on Wednesday

Houston Astros right-handed pitching prospect Miguel Ullola picked up the win on Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out six in six innings against Triple-A Albuquerque. Ullola completed six innings for the first time all season in his last start, and he matched the feat again in this outing. His electric stuff was on display, generating 13 whiffs on 42 swings. A major key for the right-hander is getting ahead of hitters and limiting free passes, which he has done with only two walks in this short stretch. For the season, Ullola has a 3.68 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and a 115:69 K:BB ratio in 95.1 innings. He is capable of contributing in multiple roles if the Astros need another arm.

Miguel Ullola Fires Six Scoreless Innings Wednesday

Houston Astros pitching prospect Miguel Ullola allowed only two runs and one walk while striking out five over six scoreless innings against Triple-A Iowa. The right-hander threw his longest outing of the season on Wednesday, and it was the fifth time this season that he threw at least five innings and didn't allow a run. It was an impressive bounce-back outing for Ullola, as in his most recent outing on August 14, he had the shortest outing of the season, recording only two outs and coughing up four runs. He is a bit inconsistent start to start in due to his erratic control, but he has intriguing strikeout stuff. With some injuries to the Houston bullpen, Ullola could be in the mix to chew up some innings in the pen down the stretch.

Miguel Ullola Wild, But Effective in First Half

Houston Astros pitching prospect Miguel Ullola owns the second-highest walk rate in Triple-A at 15.8 percent, but has limited damage otherwise and holds a 3.80 ERA in 64 innings as we head into the second half. Ullola's command ails him fairly often, as he has allowed four or more walks in five of his 16 starts this season. He has great stuff, which has led to a strong 27.4 percent strikeout rate, but the walk rate is untenable. In addition, he doesn't combat the free passes with a high ground ball rate at just 36.3 percent. The right-hander has previously shown better ground ball rates at other levels of the minor leagues, and that could be a key piece for him. He likely projects as a reliever in the major leagues and could develop into a solid one with Houston's track record.

Miguel Ullola Fires Five Effective Innings on Wednesday

Houston Astros pitching prospect Miguel Ullola allowed one run on four hits and two walks across five innings. He picked up the win and struck out five. The 22-year-old has put together a pristine month of May with a 1.17 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 34:13 K:BB in 23 innings. He will continue to battle with his control, but he has also posted big-time strikeout numbers this season. His control issues may eventually land him in a bullpen role, but the Astros' top pitching prospect could have an opportunity at some point with the big league club, given all their injuries.

Miguel Ullola Punches Out 10 On Thursday

Houston Astros right-handed pitching prospect Miguel Ullola struck out 10 batters during Thursday's start against Triple-A Salt Lake. In this outing, Ullola allowed just one hit and one walk. He did not allow a run. Since allowing 10 runs over his first 10 innings of the Triple-A campaign, Ullola has flipped the script. Over his last two starts (10 innings), the No. 6-ranked prospect in the Houston system struck out 15 batters and has allowed just two hits, three walks, and no runs. Last summer, the 22-year-old spent most of his time with Double-A, where he logged 127 1/3 innings of work to the tune of a 4.24 ERA with a 1.14 WHIP. Given his steady improvements, Ullola should be in the mix to join Houston later this season.

Miguel Ullola Has Right-Shoulder Discomfort

Houston Astros pitching prospect Miguel Ullola (shoulder) exited Friday's Spring Breakout contest early due to right shoulder discomfort. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as the team will likely provide an update in the coming days. However, seeing him have soreness in his throwing arm is not a positive sign. Last season, the 22-year-old began the campaign by making his 2024 debut. He tossed 127 1/3 innings to the tune of a 4.24 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He tallied 166 punchouts but served up a high 73 free passes. He then earned a brief taste of Triple-A, where he logged just three innings. When he is cleared to return to action, fantasy managers should expect Ullola to continue his progression at Triple-A. If he does not miss much time, he could push for an MLB debut in the second half of the season.

Miguel Ullola Has Another Strong Outing

Houston Astros starting pitching prospect Miguel Ullola tossed five shutout frames on Thursday and is beginning to break out of a slump at Double-A. Entering this game, Ullola carried a 5.40 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP across his previous three starts. Overall, through his first look at Double-A ball, the right-hander has struck out an eye-catching 127 batters across 101 frames while holding a modest 4.35 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Last summer at High-A, the 22-year-old struck out 116 batters in 90 innings of work. Ullola is currently placed as the 18th-best prospect in Houston on MLB.com and could push for a brief taste of Triple-A later this summer, given his elite strikeout production.

Miguel Ullola Currently Leading Double-A In Strikeouts

Houston Astros starting pitching prospect Miguel Ullola currently leads all of Double-A with 101 total strikeouts across 76 innings this season. The 22-year-old has tallied at least seven strikeouts on nine occasions and at least eight punchouts five times. He tallied a season-high 12 strikeouts on May 10. He currently sits with a mediocre 4.74 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, but this is a significant improvement compared to the 5.86 ERA and 1.65 WHIP he held across 90 frames at High-A last summer. The right-hander is currently ranked as the 20th-best prospect in the Houston system on MLB.com and remains on track to meet his 2026 major league ETA.
