Nolan McLean Continues to Dominate

New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean picked up his fourth straight win in his fourth career start on Tuesday as the Mets defeated the Detroit Tigers 12-5. The right-hander was outstanding once again, going six innings, allowing three hits, two earned runs, three walks, and striking out seven batters. McLean has been dominant since his promotion from Triple-A back in mid-August, and is proving to be a league winner for fantasy managers down the stretch. Through four MLB starts, he owns an excellent 1.37 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and a 28/7 K/BB ratio in 26 1/3 innings pitched. He remains a must-start pitcher in all formats down the stretch.

Nolan McLean Picks Up Third Straight Win in Dominant Victory

New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean picked up his third straight victory in his third career start on Wednesday evening during their contest against the Phillies. In this outing, the right-hander tossed eight shutout innings and allowed only four hits. He did not walk a batter and punched out six. The No. 3-ranked prospect in the Mets system has been nothing short of dominant since joining the rotation earlier this month. Through his first three starts in Queens, McLean has logged 20 1/3 innings to a near-perfect 0.89 ERA and a 0.69 WHIP. Earlier in the summer, the 24-year-old enjoyed great success splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A, holding an overall 2.45 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP across 133 2/3 innings. He remains a must-start pitcher in all formats for the foreseeable future.

Nolan McLean to Remain in Rotation

According to Laura Albanese, New York Mets starting pitcher Nolan McLean will remain in the starting rotation going forward. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise considering how well McLean looked during his MLB debut. The 24-year-old tossed 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits, while walking four batters, and striking out eight. There are some command concerns because of the four walks, but the Mets will stick with McLean for now. The strikeouts upside makes him worth a look as a streaming option in all fantasy formats at the moment.

Nolan McLean to Make MLB Debut on Saturday

New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean is set to make his MLB debut on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners. McLean has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the league this season and is finally being rewarded with a promotion. The right-hander opened the regular season with Double-A but needed only 26 1/3 innings to prove he was ready to join Triple-A Syracuse. At Double-A, he posted a stellar 1.37 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. Through 87 1/3 innings at the top level of the minor leagues, McLean posted a strong 2.78 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP. During this stretch, McLean struck out 97 batters and allowed 38 free passes. Over his last four outings, he has looked very impressive, holding a 1.96 ERA and a strong 0.83 WHIP. Fantasy managers should expect McLean to replace Frankie Montas in the starting rotation for the foreseeable future.

Nolan McLean Allows Only One Hit in Dominant Outing

New York Mets pitching prospect Nolan McLean had a pristine outing on Tuesday against Triple-A Charlotte, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out seven across 5 2/3 scoreless innings. McLean has been outstanding all season at Triple-A Syracuse and has been even better of late. Since allowing a season-high six runs in his shortest outing on July 28, he's bounced back with just four runs allowed over 19 innings across three starts, posting a 19:6 K:BB. The right-hander is one of the top pitching prospects in the Mets system and could be called upon at some point if injuries hit in the Mets' rotation.

Nolan McLean Sharp Again on Thursday

New York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean tossed 7 1/3 innings of two-run ball en route to picking up the victory over Triple-A Omaha on Thursday evening. In this outing, McLean allowed four hits and struck out six hitters. He did not allow a walk. This was a much-needed bounce-back for the right-hander as he served up six runs in his previous outing against Triple-A Norfolk. However, before that rough showing, McLean appeared to be on the fast track to the big leagues, logging 37 1/3 innings to the tune of a 2.65 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, with a 43:16 K:BB. Fantasy managers should continue to closely monitor his status as he could earn the call to the big leagues in the coming days. Given his strikeout upside, he is worth stashing in all 12+ team leagues.

Brandon Sproat, Nolan McLean Could be Bullpen Options Down the Stretch

New York Mets pitching prospects Brandon Sproat and Nolan McLean could fill bullpen roles this season if necessary, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic. As the trade deadline looms, one of the Mets' glaring weaknesses is their relief corps, and they could deal away from their infield depth in order to secure it. However, in the event they do not, it could be either Sproat or McLean. They've been performing well as starters in the minors, and it wouldn't necessarily mean they would be relievers next year and beyond. The Mets' fourth (McLean) and fifth-ranked (Sproat) prospects could also still be called up to serve as a cog in the rotation in the event one of their current starters goes down with an injury. Sproat's season-long numbers are deceiving as he's been dominant lately, posting a 0.00 ERA, a 0.61 WHIP, and a 10.57 K/9 (25.9 percent K-BB%) over his last four starts, while McLean owns a 2.58 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 10.03 K/9 (15.9 percent K-BB%) in 17 games (14 starts).

Nolan McLean, Jonah Tong, Jett Williams Not Expected to be Traded

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the New York Mets are not expected to trade top pitching prospects Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong, as well as infield prospect Jett Williams, ahead of the trade deadline. While the Mets are expected to be active as they look to strengthen their roster in preparation for another deep playoff run, their top prospects are currently viewed as a key part of the team's future. McLean was moved up to Triple-A this season and has shown high strikeout upside, tallying 65 through 60 innings. Tong has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the minor leagues this season, posting a 1.94 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP through 78 2/3 innings with Double-A. Williams is viewed as their top hitting prospect and could even be in the mix to move up to Triple-A in the second half.

Dominant First Half of Season for Nolan McLean

New York Mets pitching prospect Nolan McLean was excellent over 60 2/3 innings in the first half at Triple-A Syracuse, holding a 2.52 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP. His strikeout rate was solid at 26.1%, but he could stand to improve his control, as his walk rate was in the double digits. But it is important to consider how the ABS system at Triple-A can negatively impact pitchers' walk rates. He has a wide six-pitch mix that he distributes fairly evenly, and all of his pitches are capable of generating swing and miss. The right-hander could be in consideration for a promotion to the big leagues in the second half given his performance and the number of injuries in the Mets' rotation. He'd be worthy of an add in most formats if that time comes due to the favorable home ballpark and overall strength of the Mets team.

Nolan McLean Posts Another Double Digit Strikeout Outing

New York Mets pitching prospect Nolan McLean had a pristine outing against Triple-A Lehigh Valley Wednesday night, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out 10 across six scoreless innings. He was unfortunately stuck with a no-decision, but it was a fantastic performance nonetheless. The right-hander carved up hitters all night, generating 17 whiffs on 40 swings for a monster 43 percent whiff rate. He distributed his mix fairly evenly and had multiple swings and misses on five different offerings. McLean now has back-to-back 10-strikeout outings and continues to make the case for a promotion to the big league rotation. With the strength of the Mets' lineup and a favorable home ballpark, McLean would be a priority add in the majority of formats upon his promotion.
