The Houston Astros recalled outfielder Trey Cabbage from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday and optioned outfield prospect Pedro Leon to Sugar Land in a corresponding move. Cabbage has immediately been put in the team's starting lineup on Monday at Minute Maid Park against the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Tanner Houck, as he's playing right field and batting seventh. The 27-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder will return to a part-time role in Houston against right-handed pitchers, but he doesn't really move the needle for fantasy managers in mixed leagues. Cabbage is hitting .217 (18-for-83) with a homer and eight RBI in 43 games at the big-league level in his second year in the majors in 2024. Leon, the club's No. 21 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will head back to the farm after going 2-for-20 (.100) with two steals and 10 strikeouts in his first seven games in the bigs.

Pedro Leon Debuts For The Houston Astros
Rookie Pedro Leon is starting for the Houston Astros in right field Saturday afternoon and batting ninth, making his major league debut. In 93 games with Triple-A Sugar Land, Leon hit .297 with 19 home runs, 74 RBI, and 23 stolen bases in 424 plate appearances. He replaces Joey Loperfido on the active roster, who was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays earlier in the week in exchange for left-hander Yusei Kikuchi.

Pedro Leon Set To Make Major-League Debut
Houston Astros outfield prospect Pedro Leon is set to make his major league debut, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. Leon is set to fill the roster spot originally occupied by Joey Loperfido, who was dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday evening. Leon has spent the past three seasons at the Triple-A level but has taken a significant step forward in his development this summer. Through 93 games at Triple-A Sugar Land, the 26-year-old sits with a strong .297/.377/.519 line, 19 home runs, 74 RBI, and 23 stolen bases. He was on pace to smash his previous career-highs. Leon could be a name to add in deeper AL-only formats this week, as he could carve out a role in the starting nine. With Kyle Tucker (shin) still sidelined, Leon could have a chance to claim everyday right field duties as Chas McCormick has disappointed this season with a .208/.272/.318 line.

Astros To Promote Pedro Leon
The Houston Astros are calling up outfield prospect Pedro Leon. Leon, 26, will make his big-league debut when he enters his first game. The Cuban signed with the Astros in the 2020-2021 offseason and has spent the last three seasons in Triple-A Sugar Land, where he has hit a minimum of 17 home runs each year. In 2024, Leon has hit .297 with 19 homers, 74 RBI and 23 stolen bases across 93 games. Not only can Leon hit the ball hard, but he is a very good defender and that could open up some opportunities for him at the next level. With outfielder Joey Loperfido on his way to the Toronto Blue Jays, Leon is likely to operate as a fourth outfielder, but if he can prove he can hit at the next level, he could be an intriguing add down the stretch for fantasy managers. As he waits for his chance, it wouldn't hurt for managers to add him to their watch list.

Pedro Leon Crushes Homer For Triple-A Sugar Land
Houston Astros outfield/second base prospect Pedro Leon went 2-for-5 with a solo home run for Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday. The 26-year-old continued his power surge this season with his 19th homer of the season. He is hitting .303 with 74 RBI to go with 22 stolen bases and a .913 OPS. The Astros' No. 25 overall prospect is crushing Triple-A right now and patiently waiting for an opportunity at the major league level. The Cuban has plus power with elite speed and could be a fantasy contributor if he is given a call-up.

Pedro Leon Showing Serious Power In Triple-A
Houston Astros outfield prospect Pedro Leon has shown tremendous offensive prowess in Triple-A Sugar Land to start the 2024 season. Through 47 games, he's slashing .290/.376/.546 with 15 doubles, 10 home runs, and 12 stolen bases. He also leads the minor leagues with 51 RBI. Currently ranked #27 on the Astros' list of top prospects, it's hard to imagine that he won't ascend the rankings soon. According to MLB.com, he's expected to make his big-league debut sometime this year. If he keeps producing at this rate, there's a chance it could come sooner rather than later.

Pedro Leon Out 6-8 Weeks After Hernia Surgery
Houston Astros prospect Pedro Leon (hernia), the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, had sports-hernia surgery on Tuesday and will not be in attendance at major-league spring training. He is expected to be out for roughly six to eight weeks. It's a tough break for the 24-year-old heading into the 2023 campaign, ensuring that he'll begin the season in the minors. The outfielder/infielder hit .228/.365/.431 with 17 home runs, 63 RBI, 71 runs scored and 38 stolen bases at Triple-A Sugar Land last year and could certainly make his MLB debut with Houston at some point later in 2023. Leon has above-average bat speed, plus raw power and can run on the basepaths. How quickly he makes his debut and how well he plays once he's there will depend on whether he can make more contact at the dish.

Pedro Leon Dealing With Facial Fracture
Houston Astros outfield prospect Pedro Leon (face) suffered a facial fracture after being hit in the face by a fastball last weekend, but according to the team, he will not require surgery. Leon will go on the minor league injured list. The team's No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, is hitting .237/.370/.452 with an .822 OPS, 14 home runs, 53 RBI, 53 runs scored and 32 stolen bases in 395 plate appearances over 90 games at Triple-A Sugar Land in 2022. The 24-year-old has been a standout at the top minor league level, but this injury could prevent him from earning his first call-up to the major leagues later this season. Leon should already be a name to know in dynasty/keeper leagues with above-average bat speed, plus raw power and plus speed.

Pedro Leon Heating Up At Double-A
Houston Astros prospect Pedro Leon is on fire in June. The first-year pro out of Cuba went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four runs driven in on Tuesday. After hitting just .173 with a BB-K ratio of 7-33 in May, he's now up to .474 with a BB-K ratio of 2-3 through six June games. The contact improvement is significant. Originally an outfielder, Leon has been playing the majority of his games at shortstop with some outfield work sprinkled in. He has an intriguing mix of power and speed that could make him a valuable fantasy contributor if he continues to make consistent contact and unleashes his full power potential.
