Ryan Pepiot Likely to Go on Rehab Assignment

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot (hip) threw a bullpen session on March 23 and received an injection on March 25. He also threw another bullpen on Tuesday and will progress to facing hitters in live batting practice. Pepiot will likely go on a minor-league rehab assignment before coming off the 15-day injured list, per MLB.com. The Rays placed him on the IL on March 22 with right-hip inflammation. Barring a setback on his rehab assignment, Pepiot could rejoin Tampa's starting rotation before the end of April. Until the 28-year-old can return, right-hander Joe Boyle should remain in the Rays' rotation. Pepiot should be stashed in most fantasy baseball leagues until he can make his 2026 season debut. In his second year in Tampa in 2025, he went 11-12 with a career-high 3.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 167:61 K:BB in 167 2/3 innings over a career-high 31 starts. He's currently rostered in 89% of Yahoo leagues despite his hip injury.

Ryan Pepiot to Throw Bullpen on Friday, on Track to Return Next Week

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot (hip) is throwing a bullpen session on Friday as he continues to work his way back from right hip inflammation that sidelined him to begin the season. The right-hander is eligible to come off the injured list on Monday when the team has its first home game of the season against the Cubs, and the 28-year-old could make his season debut for that start, assuming he does not encounter any setbacks. The former third-round draft pick pitched well for the Rays in 2025, posting a 3.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 15.6 percent K-BB% in 31 starts (167 2/3 innings). The 6-foot-3 hurler looked good in spring action, too, yielding just one earned run in 10 innings of work while recording seven strikeouts, although nine walks were something to keep an eye on.

Ryan Pepiot Expected to Resume Throwing This Weekend

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot (hip) saw a doctor on Wednesday about his right-hip inflammation and is "in a really good spot," according to Ryan Bass. Pepiot will rest for a few days and should resume throwing this weekend. He is starting the season on the 15-day injured list and won't be with the team for their first road trip, but the expectation is that he'll rejoin the starting rotation during the first homestand, which starts on Monday, April 6, against the Chicago Cubs. Pepiot's injury has opened the door for right-hander Joe Boyle to join the team's Opening Day rotation. In his second year with the Rays in 2025, Pepiot went 11-12 with a career-high 3.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 167:61 K:BB in 167 2/3 innings over a career-high 31 starts. Pepiot mostly relies on his fastball/changeup mix to fool hitters and has a 25.3% strikeout rate in his four MLB seasons. Fantasy managers should consider him a decent No. 4/5 hurler who could benefit from the move back to Tropicana Field.

Ryan Pepiot Placed on Injured List to Open the Season

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot (hip) has been placed on the 15-day injured list, according to Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times. Pepiot has been dealing with right hip inflammation, and as a result, he won't be available for the first couple of weeks of the regular season. That's crushing news for the Rays, who are dealing with several pitcher injuries and were hoping Pepiot could be a source of health and stability in the rotation. He threw a career-high 167.2 innings over 31 starts last year, posting a 3.86 ERA with 8.96 K/9 and 3.27 BB/9. Moving forward, the Rays and fantasy managers will look for Pepiot to get healthy and minimize loud contact. He allowed 1.40 HR/9 last year (consistent with his career rate) and surrendered ground balls at a 38.2% clip, which was somehow the highest mark of his career. Joe Boyle will occupy Pepiot's slot in the rotation until the 28-year-old is able to return.

Ryan Pepiot Returning to More Favorable Home Park in 2026

Across 167 2/3 innings (31 starts) in 2025, Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot posted an 11-12 record with a 3.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 167 strikeouts. Since being acquired by Tampa Bay from the Los Angeles Dodgers before the 2024 season, Pepiot has emerged as a consistent source of quality strikeout rate (25.4%) and WHIP (1.16). However, he's allowed an average of 1.4 home runs per nine innings pitched, which has led to a relatively elevated ERA. Heading into 2026, Pepiot will have the advantage of returning to Tropicana Field for his home games after making his home starts in a Minor League park in 2025. That could help the 28-year-old put it all together and log his best MLB season to date. Even if Pepiot's underlying metrics hold steady, he's still proven himself a capable starting pitcher option for fantasy managers. With a current average draft position of pick 146, Pepiot profiles as a solid fantasy SP3.

Ryan Pepiot Expected to Start Tuesday

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot (fatigue) is expected to return to the rotation to start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays, reports Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times. He was originally scheduled to start this past Wednesday before being scratched due to general fatigue. Luckily, that was not a precursor to a more serious issue, as the 28-year-old is reportedly feeling back to normal after throwing a bullpen session over the weekend. The right-hander has enjoyed a solid 2025, posting a 3.59 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 161 strikeouts in 163 innings so far.

Ryan Pepiot Scratched on Wednesday, Griffin Jax to Open

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot, who was scheduled to start Wednesday's road matchup with the Chicago White Sox, will be scratched due to fatigue. As a result, the Rays will go with a bullpen game, with Griffin Jax now listed as the scheduled opener. Pepiot is having a fine season, pitching to a 3.59 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 15.9 percent K-BB%, however, he's also at a career-high 163 innings pitched, which is 30 more innings than he logged last season. It's bad timing as the Rays try to make a final push towards the playoffs, but hopefully this rest rejuvenates him for a couple of final starts to end the year. Jax hasn't logged more than an inning all year in 65 appearances, so don't expect him to go longer than that on Wednesday.

Ryan Pepiot Strikes Out Nine, Earns Win on Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot notched a quality start in a 6-5 win over the Athletics on Wednesday. Pepiot allowed two runs on four hits over six innings of work while striking out nine and walking three in the win. He led the game with 14 swinging strikes while improving his record to 6-6 on the season. Pepiot has been a reliable fantasy starting pitcher, posting a 3.34 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 101 strikeouts across 102 1/3 innings of work on the season. The veteran has allowed more than three earned runs in a start just twice all season and will look to keep it going in his next outing, which is scheduled for Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers.

Ryan Pepiot Strikes Out 11 in Win

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot earned his fourth win of the season in a 7-1 victory against the Orioles on Monday. He allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out 11 over eight innings. This was his third straight start with eight strikeouts or more, and his 9th quality start in his last 11 outings. The efficiency has been great to see from the 27-year-old, as he's failed to go six innings only twice in that span. He'll carry a 3.11 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 89 innings into his next start, currently lined up to be against the Tigers.

Ryan Pepiot Works Into Seventh Inning in Solid Outing

Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot was terrific on Friday, tossing 6 innings of shutout ball in a tough no-decision against the Houston Astros. Pepiot left the game with a 1-0 lead, but the bullpen was unable to hang onto it, and the Rays ended up taking a 2-1 loss. The 27-year-old was great all night, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out four. It is Pepiot's fifth consecutive quality start and second straight scoreless outing. He is now 3-5 with a 3.21 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts in 70 IP. The advanced stats haven't loved what the righty has done so far this year, but he has gotten the job done. Still, his lack of strikeouts should make fantasy owners wary. Pepiot can be seen as a sell-high candidate if someone is valuing him at his surface-level numbers. His next start should come on Thursday at home against the Texas Rangers, which is a juicy matchup right now.
