Ryan Ward Finishes as Minor-League Home Run, RBI Leader

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Ryan Ward won the Joe Bauman Award after he hit the most home runs in the minors this year, blasting 36 homers this season for Triple-A Oklahoma City. It's the third straight season with at least 33 home runs, and this year he seemed to put it all together, as he hit .290 with a better-than-average strikeout rate of 18.7 percent after coming into the year as a .258 hitter in the minors with a 23.9 percent strikeout rate. The 27-year-old also registered a 12.7 percent walk rate, which helped him to a strong .380 OBP, and he also recorded a career-high 16 stolen bases. His 122 RBI also led the entire minor leagues. Even so, unfortunately, the left-handed slugger's name has yet to be called for a major league debut, but perhaps next season he'll get a shot, even if it ends up coming with a different organization.

Ryan Ward Extends Hit Streak to 15 Games at Triple-A

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Ryan Ward extended his hit streak to 15 games with a 1-for-4 effort on Saturday for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 27-year-old has been red-hot during the stretch, slashing .397 with six home runs. On the season, Ward has tallied 24 doubles, 28 home runs, and 92 RBI across 95 games, leading the club in homers and RBI. Despite his standout production, Los Angeles' deep roster continues to block his path to the majors. With the trade deadline approaching, Ward could become a valuable trade chip and a strong candidate to earn MLB playing time elsewhere.

Ryan Ward Named Pacific Coast League Player of the Week

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Ryan Ward earned Pacific Coast League Player of the Week honors for the week of July 7-13. The 27-year-old went 9-for-21 (.429) with four doubles, a triple, and one home run, along with six RBI, four runs scored, and a 6:3 BB:K in six games for Triple-A Oklahoma City. The left-handed slugger is up to a .309/.399/.597 slash line for the season, and his 108 hits, 24 home runs, and 82 RBI lead all minor leaguers. He's always had big power, but through 261 games at Triple-A prior to this year, he registered a 26.1 percent strikeout rate. However, this season he has cut that down to a better-than-average 20.0 percent, complemented by a strong 13.1 percent walk rate. If he gets the call to the majors, the power potential and offensive environment could make him an intriguing waiver add in very deep and NL-only leagues.

Ryan Ward Leading All Minor Leaguers in Home Runs

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Ryan Ward leads all minor leaguers in home runs with 23 through 82 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He also leads in RBI (76) and is tied for most hits (99). The 27-year-old has shown prodigious power in the past, blasting at least 21 home runs in each of the past four seasons, topping out at 33 last year at Triple-A. With the power had come an elevated strikeout rate of 26.8 percent last season, but the left-handed slugger has improved it to a better-than-average 20.7 percent this year, all while boasting the best walk rate of his career (12.5 percent). The former eighth-round draft pick looks worthy of a shot in the big leagues and could make his major league debut this year. Although he's not a stash candidate, there's enough power and he would be hitting in a formidable Dodger lineup that could make him a potential waiver add in very deep or NL-only leagues whenever he gets the call.

Ryan Ward Launches Three Home Runs on Thursday

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Ryan Ward went 5-for-5 with three home runs and six RBI during their contest against Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday evening. The 27-year-old has been one of the best power hitters at Triple-A this season and enjoyed a career night. Through 51 total games with Oklahoma City this season, Ward has held a .323/.400/.576 slash line with 12 doubles, 12 home runs, and 40 RBI. The outfielder has swiped five bags and held a 47:26 K:BB. Last season, the Bryant University product spent most of his campaign with Triple-A and held a lower .250/.317/.543 slash line. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his power production as he could be in the mix to make his MLB debut later this summer.

Ryan Ward Showcasing Extreme Power Once Again

Los Angeles Dodgers outfield prospect Ryan Ward is a power-first player whose claim to fame is that he hits a lot of home runs. The former eight-round pick went yard 76 times from 2021 through 2023 and is hitting homers at an even higher rate than ever this season. With that said, outside of his power, there are real flaws in Ward's game. His strikeout total is more than seven times his walk total, and his batting average and on-base percentage are both significantly lower than you'd like to see from someone with a home run every 2.2 games. Finally, the 26-year-old is an unstable defender, possessing a subpar arm and likely settling into left field or designated hitter long-term. Nevertheless, Ward went on a tear last week, continuing to slug homers but also cutting down on his strikeout rate. He ultimately went 9-for-19, slugging five homers over four games. He also drove in 11 runs, worked two walks, and struck out four times. Before the Dodgers consider Ward for a promotion to the majors, he'll need to show a little more consistency in terms of getting on base and reducing his strikeout total.
