Sergio Alcántara Fantasy Stats

The Chicago Cubs signed free-agent infielder Sergio Alcantara to a minor-league deal on Tuesday. Alcantara spent his third major-league season in 2022 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres, slashing a combined .220/.261/.356 with a .617 OPS, six home runs, 29 RBI, 26 runs scored and one stolen base in just 224 plate appearances and 93 total games. In 192 games over three big-league seasons, he has hit .209/.281/.343 with 12 homers, 47 RBI, 58 runs scored and four stolen bases. The 26-year-old switch-hitter has hit .258/.344/.323 with a .667 OPS in eight minor-league seasons. Alcantara will serve as infield depth for the Cubs entering the 2023 season and has a pretty good shot at seeing more time in the big leagues at some point next year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired infielder Sergio Alcantara from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for cash considerations. Alcantara should get some at-bats in Arizona, but is tough to trust.

The young infielder has struggled during his time at the big league level. Right-hander Trevor Megill will be recalled in a corresponding move. The Cubs bullpen has been used frequently lately and needs another fresh arm. Alcantara could be back up around the trade deadline, but won't be much of an asset in fantasy leagues.

The Cubs selected his contract as a corresponding move after placing David Bote on the injured list with a shoulder dislocation. The 24-year-old has put up some solid numbers in the minors thus far. He's slashing .328/.481/.459 with two home runs, six RBI, and three stolen bases over 79 at-bats. It's unclear how his playing time will shake out with the big league club but he could be an intriguing streaming option if he starts to log some consistent at-bats.

Detroit Tigers infielder Sergio Alcantara was called up on Friday for the team's double-header against the Minnesota Twins, but he didn't make an appearance in either game that day. Instead, he is slated to make his MLB debut in Sunday's game against the Twins. Alcantara is hitting ninth and starting at third base in the game. Alcantara is primarily known for his defensive acumen. However, he did show some solid plate discipline in the minors. Last year, over 102 games at Double-A, he struck out just 71 times compared with 48 walks. He offers very little upside in terms of power. He hit just two home runs over that same 102-game stretch last year. He can remain on waivers in all fantasy leagues at this point.
