Tanner Houck Fantasy Stats

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck (elbow) resumed throwing on Monday. He made about 25 throws from 45 feet out, marking the first time he had thrown a baseball since undergoing Tommy John surgery nearly six months ago. It's a major step in the right direction for Houck, whose long recovery gives him a timetable to return around September 2026. He hasn't pitched in the majors since last May, when he suffered a right flexor pronator strain and later experienced a setback while rehabbing in the minors. The right-hander didn't pitch very well even when healthy, allowing 39 earned runs over 43.2 innings (nine starts). His strikeout rate dropped to a career-low 6.60 K/9 while his home run rate ballooned to 2.06 HR/9. Therefore, in addition to getting healthy, Houck will look to make mechanical adjustments focused on helping him return to pre-2025 form. He was an All-Star in 2024, and he looked like a potential Cy Young candidate during the first half of that season before things fell apart in the second half.

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck (elbow) will resume throwing next week in hopes of being ready to rejoin the pitching staff in September, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Houck hasn't pitched in the majors since last May, when he suffered a right flexor pronator strain. He suffered a setback while rehabbing in the minors, and he ultimately underwent Tommy John surgery in August. The right-hander didn't pitch very well when healthy, as he allowed 39 earned runs over 43.2 innings (nine starts). His strikeout rate dropped to a career-low 6.60 K/9 while his home run rate ballooned to 2.06 HR/9. Presumably, the Red Sox hope that his struggles were related to his injury and that he can get back on track when healthy later this year. However, with September as his target return, Houck still has a long recovery ahead of him.

Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck (elbow) is scheduled to undergo Tommy John Surgery on Monday. The 29-year-old suffered a right flexor pronator strain in the middle of May and has been on the Injured List ever since. He had been making gains in the summer, going so far as to complete a long rehab assignment. However, before being reinstated from the Injured List, Houck suffered a setback. It was here that the decision was made for Tommy John Surgery. This procedure will cost him the rest of this season and possibly all of the 2026 season, though he is hopeful to pitch at some point. With no guarantee that he will return next season, he is someone who can remain on the waiver wire in all leagues.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck (elbow) is at peace with his decision to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery with Dr. Keith Meister at some point this week. Houck and Meister have yet to discuss whether it might be possible for him to return late in the 2026 season, but Houck is hopeful, according to Christopher Smith of Mass Live. The 29-year-old went on the injured list back on May 14 with a flexor pronator strain. He tried to pitch through it and go on a rehab assignment, but a subsequent MRI exam after five minor-league outings showed that his flexor tendon "was torn a good bit." Before he landed on the IL in May, Houck was awful for the BoSox, posting an 8.09 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB in 43 2/3 innings. There's no guarantee he'll pitch at all in 2026, and if he does, it will likely be in a relief role late in the season.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery, according to manager Alex Cora. He'll miss the rest of this season and possibly all of the 2026 campaign as a result. Houck was an All-Star last year, but he was unable to follow up on that performance during a nightmarish, injury-ravaged 2025. The 29-year-old made nine starts and went 0-3 with a ghastly 8.04 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, and 32:17 K:BB over 43 2/3 innings before hitting the 15-day injured list May 14 with a flexor pronator strain. Houck tried to work his way back in the minors, where he also struggled, but the Red Sox had to shut him down a couple of weeks ago after he suffered a setback. While it's no surprise that Houck is done for this season, the hope was that he would avoid a Tommy John procedure and return sometime next year. Given the timing of this surgery, it now appears that Houck won't have a chance to come back to the majors until 2027.

Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Tanner Houck (elbow), who was recently transferred to the 60-day injured list, is unlikely to return to the team in 2025. Houck was all set to return late in July, but after suffering a setback in his rehab assignment, he was shut down indefinitely. If Houck does not return, he will finish the season with a very disappointing 8.04 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, and a career-low 15.8% strikeout rate over 43 2/3 innings. It remains to be seen what his role will be with the Red Sox beyond this year, whether as a starter or a reliever.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday to make room for newly acquired Dustin May on the 40-man roster. Houck is eligible to be activated from the injured list at any time, and he appeared close to a return before being shut down indefinitely on July 21 after experiencing a setback. At this time, there is no clear timeline for his return in what looks to be a lost season for Houck. Fantasy managers holding onto him still in redraft leagues are welcome to drop him. He owns an ugly 8.04 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, and a 32/17 K/BB in 43 2/3 innings pitched. The 29-year-old will look to rebound next season and regain his form after a breakout season for him in 2024, where he owned a 3.12 ERA in 178 2/3 innings pitched for the Red-Sox.

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck (elbow) has been shut down indefinitely after experiencing repeated flexor soreness, reports Tim Healey of The Boston Globe. He had completed a full 30-day rehab assignment to come back from a right flexor pronator strain, but suffered a setback at some point during the process. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Houck would not need surgery, but didn't offer clear steps or a timetable moving forward. With only a little over two months left in the season, the 29-year-old may be running out of time to see the field again in 2025.

Boston Red Sox hurler Tanner Houck (elbow) has suffered a recurrence of a right flexor pronator strain and will remain on the 15-day injured list, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. Houck had just finished a maximum 30-day rehab assignment to recover from the strain on Thursday, leaving the Red Sox two days to decide whether to recall the right-hander or send him to Triple-A. For now, neither option is on the table in the aftermath of this setback. Houck's 30-day rehab clock will reset, but he's not eligible to begin a new assignment for seven days. At this point, it's fair to wonder whether the 29-year-old will pitch again this season. After Houck earned an All-Star nod last year, the Red Sox were counting on another strong showing in 2025. Instead, Houck went 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA in 43 2/3 innings before going on the IL on May 13.

The Boston Red Sox have returned right-hander Tanner Houck (elbow) from his rehab assignment and are likely to keep him on the injured list, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. Houck last pitched in the majors on May 12 before landing on the 15-day IL with a right flexor pronator strain, though he had been working back in the minors. His 30-day rehab assignment expired Thursday, but teams are given two additional days to reinstate the player. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that the team could option Houck to the minors instead of recalling him. Instead, it appears he'll remain on the shelf. It has been a nightmarish campaign for Houck, a 2024 All-Star who got off to a terrible start before his IL stint. He has made nine starts this year and gone 0-3 with an 8.04 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, and 32:17 K:BB in 43 2/3 innings.
