Willy Adames Declines Brewers Qualifying Offer

Free-agent shortstop Willy Adames has officially declined the Milwaukee Brewers' $21.05 million qualifying offer on Tuesday, as expected. With Adames declining, the Brewers will be assured draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team on the open market this offseason. This was the first time that the Brewers have ever extended a qualifying offer. Adames is 29 years old and is the top SS in the free-agent class, which made it a no-brainer move for him to decline the offer. Assuming he signs for more than $50 million, Milwaukee would be given a draft pick between the end of the first round and the start of the competitive balance Round A. Adames was one of the team's top offensive performers in 2024, slashing .251/.331/.462 with a .794 OPS and career-highs in homers (32), RBI (112) and steals (21) in 161 regular-season games. He's reportedly open to the idea of moving to third base for a new team.

Astros Interested In Willy Adames

MLB Network's Jon Morosi reports that the Houston Astros are interested in free-agent shortstop Willy Adames, possibly to play third base if they cannot bring Alex Bregman back. In addition to the Astros, Morosi lists the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays as potential suitors for Adames, who will have a robust market this offseason. The Astros are already set with Jeremy Pena at the 6 and veteran Jose Altuve at second, so Adames would likely move to the hot corner if he were to land in Houston. The 29-year-old reportedly has already received offers from the Dodgers and New York Mets, with the Mets offering seven years and over $160 million. A move to the Mets would also likely result in Adames shifting to third with Francisco Lindor already entrenched at shortstop.

Willy Adames Receives Offers From Mets And Dodgers

Free-agent shortstop Willy Adames has received offers from the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to MLB Insider Mike Rodriguez. Rodriguez noted that the Mets have offered the infielder a contract worth $160 million spread across seven years with the intention of him moving over to cover the hot corner. Adames has stated he prefers to play shortstop, but a sizeable contract and playing on a team that just made the NLCS may convince him. The details of the Los Angeles offer has not been reported, but if Adames were to sign there, he would be expected to be the team's starting shortstop. Last season, the 29-year-old enjoyed a nice bounce-back campaign as he hit 32 home runs with 112 RBI, compared to the 24 home runs and 80 RBI he tallied in 2023. Fantasy managers should view Adames as one of the top options for power at shortstop heading into the 2025 campaign.

Willy Adames Willing To Play A Different Position

Free-agent shortstop Willy Adames reportedly wants to stay at shortstop but would be willing to move elsewhere if he gets a strong offer on the open market this winter from a contending team, according to league sources. Adames is the top available shortstop in free agency this offseason and one of the top available position players after setting career-highs in home runs (32), RBI (112), stolen bases (21) and runs scored (93) in 161 games in 2024 with the Milwaukee Brewers. ESPN's Kiley McDaniel projects him to find a seven-year deal worth around $189 million in free agency this winter as both a stalwart defensively and offensively at a premier position. If a contending team lands Adames and already has a stud at the 6, he could be moved to either third or second base, which would make him even more attractive in fantasy next year with added positional eligibility.

Willy Adames Projected To Sign Seven-Year, $189 Million Deal In Free Agency

ESPN's Kiley McDaniel is projecting free-agent shortstop Willy Adames to secure a seven-year deal worth around $189 million (27 million average annual value) in free agency this offseason. Adames helped his cause in a walk year in 2024 with the Milwaukee Brewers by slashing .251/.331/.462 with a .794 OPS and career-highs in home runs (32), RBI (112), stolen bases (21) and runs scored (93) in 688 plate appearances and 161 games during the regular season. He's a year and a half younger than fellow free agent Alex Bregman and is also better defensively and as a power hitter. Helping Adames' cause to land a lucrative long-term deal this winter is the fact that there wasn't a real everyday shortstop available on the open market last offseason. Plenty of teams will be interested in Adames, especially since he's flexible and could be moved to third base.

Willy Adames Receives Qualifying Offer From Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers extended a $21.05 million qualifying offer to free-agent shortstop Willy Adames on Monday, according to sources. If Adames rejects the offer, which is likely, and signs with another team, the Brewers will receive draft-pick compensation. The 29-year-old should be able to find a lucrative long-term deal on the open market that will pay him more than $21.05 million in 2025 after he hit .251 (153-for-610) with career-highs in home runs (32), RBI (112), stolen bases (21) and runs scored (93) in 688 plate appearances and 161 regular-season games in his third full season in Milwaukee. Adames offers above-average defense at a premiere position on the infield and is an above-average hitter as well, which is hard to come by at shortstop. He's clubbed 24-plus home runs in each of the last four seasons.

Willy Adames To Sit Out His First Game Of The Year

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames is not in the starting lineup for the first time all year on Thursday at American Family Field against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Adames is taking the night off after three straight hitless, multi-strikeout games. It ends his bid to become the first Brewers player since Prince Fielder to start all 162 games in a season. The Brewers clinched the National League Central title on Wednesday, so they are going to give the 29-year-old Adames the day off for Thursday's series opener against Arizona. Joey Ortiz will start at the 6 and hit seventh against D-backs right-hander Brandon Pfaadt. Adames has already set career-highs in 2024 in homers (32), RBI (109), stolen bases (18) and runs scored (87) in 152 games played. However, he's gone just 11-for-61 (.180) with five homers, two doubles, 14 RBI and 20 strikeouts in 16 games in September.

Willy Adames Smacks Two Home Runs, Collects Five RBI

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames went 3-for-3 with a walk, a pair of home runs, five RBI, and two runs scored in Saturday's 15-8 romp over the Diamondbacks. The first home run came in the second inning with the bases loaded and the grand slam gave the Brewers an 8-0 lead early. The second came two innings later, a solo shot that gave the team a 12-0 cushion. The 29-year-old is having arguably the best season of his career, putting together a .253-32-107-87-18 line with a .348 wOBA and 124 wRC+. He's currently the NL leader in the RBI category while the 32 home runs and 18 stolen bases are both career highs.

Willy Adames Homers Again, Steals Two Bases

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames belted his 30th home run of the season in a 2-for-4 day at the plate during Saturday's 5-2 win over the Rockies. The 29-year-old also swiped a pair of bags in the contest, giving him 18 stolen bases on the season. It was the eighth home run in the last 13 games for the Dominican, and with 101 RBI on the season, he leads the National League in that category. After a poor month of June, the slugger was slashing .229/.321/.408, but has hit well ever since and now has the slashline up to a much more respectable .253/.335/.473 along with a .347 wOBA and 123 wRC+.

Willy Adames Collects Four Hits, Homers Twice Tuesday

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames continued his strong offensive second half in Tuesday's 10-0 win over the Braves. Adames went 4-for-5 with two singles, a pair of two-run home runs, and a strikeout. The 28-year-old clobbered a first-inning Bryce Elder sinker into the center-field shrubs and tagged Elder again in the third inning, hitting a pitch into the center-field seats. Adames has had a strong second half after a middling first half and is now slashing .293/.369/.552 in 58 second-half at-bats. Adames is a must-start fantasy option when producing like this, especially if the Brewers continue to play strong baseball overall.
