National Recall Zach Brzykcy From Triple-A

The Washington Nationals have recalled right-handed pitching prospect Zach Brzykcy from Triple-A Rochester. Brzykcy will replace Lucas Sims, who was released on Friday evening. The 25-year-old had a brief one-inning appearance in the majors earlier this season. Last summer, Brzykcy made his MLB debut but logged only five 2/3 innings of work. Across his first six 2/3 innings in the majors, Brzykcy has held a 13.50 ERA with a 2.25 WHIP. He has struck out five batters but has walked 20% of the batters he has faced. However, Brzykcy has been very productive at Triple-A, holding a stellar 1.88 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP across 14 1/3 innings of work. Given his previous struggles in the majors, fantasy managers should expect Brzykcy to have a low-leverage role in the bullpen.

Zach Brzykcy Has Left-Leg Injury

Washington right-handed pitching prospect Zach Brzykcy (leg) is dealing with a left leg injury that affects him when he lands. Brzykcy has begun throwing bullpens and is viewed as day-to-day. Brzykcy has not appeared in a spring training contest since February 25. Fantasy managers should expect Brzykcy to continue to increase his workload. Seeing him throw bullpens is a positive sign and suggests he could be turning the corner in his recovery. Last season, the 25-year-old made his MLB debut and allowed nine earned runs across five 2/3 innings of work. He tallied four punchouts and served up three free passes. Across 35 1/3 innings in the minor leagues last season, Brzykcy held a strong 2.04 ERA with a stellar 0.82 WHIP. When healthy, he will continue to compete for a role in the Washington bullpen.

Zach Brzykcy Sharp In Return To Double-A

Washington Nationals pitching prospect Zach Brzykcy (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list on Monday, July 8, and has already logged two outings at Double-A. Brzykcy tossed two innings of relief and did not allow a run or a hit. He struck out two while giving up just one free pass. The 24-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery last April and did not pitch once last season. He performed very well in 2022 across three levels of the minor leagues. where he held a cumulative 1.76 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and a 29:95 BB:K across 61 1/3 frames. He tallied 14 saves. The right-hander may not have an opportunity to reach the majors this season but could emerge as the future closer in the nation's capitol as early as next season.
