Cade Otton News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie tight end Cade Otton (ankle), who is expected to be done with his recovery from an ankle injury for the start of training camp, could become the team's No. 1 tight end over Cameron Brate now that Rob Gronkowski has retired. Otton is already considered an above-average and willing blocker, so there's potential for him to be the TE that the Buc keep on the field the most. Most draft analysts didn't think his college pass-catching numbers reflected his true potential due to injuries and weak quarterback play at Washington. It's also worth noting that before the arrival of Gronk, TEs weren't heavily featured in Bruce Arians' passing attack. Arians isn't the head coach anymore, but Byron Leftwich remains the offensive coordinator. Brate remains the best fantasy target at the position in Tampa, for now, as a touchdown-dependent TE2 with upside.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie tight end Cade Otton (ankle) was just a spectator at mandatory minicamp while he recovers from an ankle injury that ended his season early last year, but he's expected to be healthy and ready for the start of training camp in July. The hope is that he can develop into a complete NFL tight end, but the Buccaneers will probably bring in an established veteran to take some of the pressure off Otton to be an immediate starter and contributor alongside Cam Brate now that Rob Gronkowski has retired again. Otton, the 23-year-old fourth-round pick, needed season-ending surgery on his ankle last year and will probably be brought along slowly in his first season in the NFL, so he'll be a long shot to be a fantasy contributor in 2022.
The Buccaneers took Washington tight end Cade Otton to kick off the third day of the 2022 NFL Draft on Saturday. The 23-year-old, selected with the 106th overall pick, played four seasons with the Huskies, where he finished with 1,026 yards and nine touchdowns off 91 catches. He certainly doesn't lack size at 6'5'', 250 pounds, although he needs to improve his blocking ability. Nonetheless, with O.J. Howard now in Buffalo, and Rob Gronkowski uncertain to return, Otton has a chance at solidifying himself as the No. 2 option on the depth chart behind Cameron Brate. However, if Brate succumbs to injury in 2022-23, he may gain interest from fantasy managers as a viable streaming option. Playing alongside Tom Brady also won't hurt his development.
