Josh Simmons has Wrist Surgery, Heading to Injured Reserve

Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons (wrist) underwent surgery on a dislocated and fractured wrist and will go on Injured Reserve, head coach Andy Reid confirmed on Wednesday. Simmons suffered the injury in the Thanksgiving Day loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday and left the stadium in a cast, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. It's a major loss for the Chiefs, who are battling for their playoff lives at the moment. In addition to Simmons' injury, KC also lost right guard Trey Smith (ankle) and offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor (elbow) due to injuries last Thursday. With Simmons now out for the rest of the season, the Chiefs will turn to either Wanya Morris or Jaylon Moore to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side. The Chiefs' offense could have a very tough time this Sunday night against the Houston Texans and their No. 1 defense.

Josh Simmons Ruled Out with Wrist Injury

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially ruled out offensive tackle Josh Simmons (wrist) due to a wrist injury for the remainder of the contest against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday evening. The team's starting left tackle sustained this injury in the second half and has now been officially ruled out for the remainder of the contest. Fantasy managers should expect Jaylon Moore and Wanya Morris to see more opportunities on the left side of the offensive line during the remainder of the final frame. Simmons was selected in the opening round of the year's draft out of Ohio State and has played a key role on the offensive line throughout the first half of his debut campaign.

Josh Simmons Back With the Team

Kansas City Chiefs rookie left tackle Josh Simmons (personal) has returned to the team's facility after missing the last four games due to a personal family matter, sources tell Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Getting Simmons back will be a huge boost for the Chiefs' offense, as he was great as the starter at left tackle for the first five games of the year. The Chiefs have been using Jaylon Moore to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side with Simmons away from the team. KC is on their bye in Week 10, but Simmons should be ready to go again for the team's next game in Week 11 against a strong Denver Broncos' pass rush. Overall, it's excellent news for Mahomes and the rest of the Chiefs' offense for the second half of the season.

Josh Simmons a Few Weeks Away from Returning

Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons (personal) will rejoin the team in a few weeks, according to ESPN's Nate Taylor. Simmons has been away from the team since Week 6 while handing a "family situation." The first-round pick played nearly every snap before temporarily stepping away from football, and he should return to an every-snap role when his personal matter is resolved. Simmons won't play on Monday night against the Commanders, and it seems unlikely that he'll be available for Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills. With the Chiefs on bye in Week 10, we could be looking at Week 11 as a reasonable target for Simmons' return.

Josh Simmons on Schedule to Open the Year as a Starter

Kansas City Chiefs rookie offensive tackle Josh Simmons (knee) worked as the starting left tackle during offseason practices despite coming off a torn patellar tendon in his final year in college at Ohio State. Per ESPN's Adam Teicher, barring a setback, it looks like Simmons is on schedule to be the team's starting left tackle when the 2025 regular season begins. "We weren't quite sure how much we were going to be able to get out of him, but he looks strong," head coach Andy Reid said. "You can tell that he rehabbed. He did a nice job with it." The 22-year-old will be tested more in training camp when the pads go on, and he'll primarily competing with Jaylon Moore for the right to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side. There's still a chance Moore wins the job, but it's clear that Simmons is the future at left tackle for the Chiefs.

Josh Simmons Will be Ready for Training Camp

Kansas City Chiefs rookie first-round offensive tackle Josh Simmons (knee) will be ready for full participation when the team kicks off training camp at the end of July, according to head coach Andy Reid. Simmons missed part of last year while at Ohio State with a torn patellar tendon in his knee, but the Chiefs still liked him enough to take him 32nd overall back in April's NFL draft. He was able to take part in non-contact OTA and minicamp practices, and the Chiefs are looking forward to seeing more from the 22-year-old this summer. Simmons will be competing with free-agent addition Jaylon Moore for the starting left tackle job this year, which means protecting star quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side. Simmons may not win the job outright heading into Week 1, but he's the future at the position for KC.

Josh Simmons Signs Four-Year Rookie Deal

Kansas City Chiefs rookie first-round offensive tackle Josh Simmons (knee) signed his four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $14,675,353 on Sunday, according to his agents, Drew Rosenhaus, Robert Bailey and Oliver Chell. If not for tearing his patellar tendon in Week 7 of the 2024 season with Ohio State, Simmons was expected to be a top-10 pick in this year's NFL draft. Instead, the Chiefs were able to snag him with the 32nd and final pick in the first round. Jaylon Moore is expected to serve as KC's starting left tackle and blind-side protector for Patrick Mahomes to start the 2025 campaign, but the 22-year-old Simmons should be the team's long-term plan at left tackle once he's fully recovered from his knee injury. Simmons, who stands at 6-foot-5, 317 pounds, has the skills to be a difference-maker for the Chiefs' offensive line for years to come.

Chiefs Compare Josh Simmons To Christian Darrisaw, Rashawn Slater

The Kansas City Chiefs selected former Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Chiefs have had a weakness at tackle over the last few seasons and evidently took their shot at fixing it on Day 1. On Monday, Chiefs director of player personnel and college scouting Ryne Nutt compared Simmons to Minnesota Vikings tackle Christian Darrisaw and Los Angeles Chargers tackle Rashawn Slater. Darrisaw and Slater were the No. 13 and No. 23 overall picks in the 2021 Draft, respectively, and both are widely viewed as some of the best blindside protectors in the NFL. If Kansas City can get that kind of play out of Simmons early in his career, it would go a long way in helping the Chiefs recapture their downfield passing attack.

Chiefs Close Out The First Round With Josh Simmons

The Kansas City Chiefs dropped back one spot via a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles at the back end of the first round and took Ohio State offensive tackle with the 32nd overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft on Thursday night. Simmons could end up being an excellent value pick for the Chiefs with the last pick of this year's first round. The 22-year-old offensive lineman fell to the end of the first round due to a torn patellar tendon that he suffered in the sixth game last year for the Buckeyes. Although Simmons might not be ready to play for most of his rookie season in 2025, he now projects at KC's long-term offensive tackle to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes' blind side. While Simmons recovers from his knee injury, expect Jaylon Moore, who the Chiefs signed this offseason, to start at left tackle. It's not a surprise the Chiefs addressed their O-line early in this year's draft after protection was a big issue in their Super Bowl loss.

Josh Simmons May Not Be Cleared Until August

Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons (knee), who tore his patellar tendon back in October, might not be medically cleared to play football until August after going through a combine re-check in mid-April, according to SI.com's Albert Breer. It's a tough injury for big men to return from, meaning there's a good chance the 22-year-old isn't ready to go for the start of his rookie season in the NFL this fall. Simmons recently decided to change his mind and not attend the 2025 NFL draft in person, which means he probably isn't going to be taken in the first round after his injury. Simmons' torn patellar tendon ended his final season with the Buckeyes early in 2024, but if not for that injury, the 6-foot-5 lineman might have been in contention to be a top-10 pick. Even though he might not go in the first round, he's still considered a top-three tackle in this year's class.
