Rashee Rice News
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice caught 3-of-5 targets for 29 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 21-20 loss to the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs countered a long Detroit scoring drive with a lengthy touchdown drive of their own across the first and second quarters after Rice got free near the back of the end zone for his first career TD. The second-round rookie also registered a nice 25-yard gain before the first-half's two-minute warning. Rice tied Noah Gray and Kadarius Toney for the team lead in targets in this one. The 23-year-old should be a somewhat trendy Week 2 waiver wire pickup, but he won't have much FLEX viability next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars if Travis Kelce (knee) is ready to go.
Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said on Wednesday that wide receivers Rashee Rice and Justyn Ross will start out as "package" players on offense, but the hope is that they produce enough to graduate and become every-down receivers later in the year. Right now, Skyy Moore is an every-down wideout, and Veach expects a "big jump" for him. Both the rookie Rice and Ross, who has battled back from injuries, are intriguing if they get more snaps in KC's explosive offense, but neither wideout is probably worth anything more than a late-round flier in upcoming fantasy drafts. If the oft-injured Kadarius Toney can't stay healthy, Rice and Ross could become every-down options earlier than expected in 2023.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice brought in three of six targets for 29 yards in Saturday's 33-32 preseason win over the Cleveland Browns. It's a significant step back for the 23-year-old after shining with eight catches on nine targets for 96 yards a week ago. Rice blatantly dropped a long would-be touchdown with no defenders in sight in this one, which would have otherwise continued to raise his fantasy stock. Nonetheless, Rice tied for the team lead in targets and the 2023 second-round pick remains worth a late-round pick in fantasy drafts with Kadarius Toney (knee) still not practicing.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice was selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, suggesting Andy Reid and company have big plans for the SMU product right away. The team drafted Skyy Moore in round two last season and traded for Kadarius Toney -- meaning Rice, Toney, and Moore are the prime contenders to be the No. 2 option in the passing game behind Travis Kelce. Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said he envisions Rice replacing JuJu Smith-Schuster as the slot receiver...
