Tom Kennedy in Line for Significant Playing Time in Week 14?

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy has spent most of the 2025 season buried on the Lions' practice squad. However, he was pressed into action in Week 13 due to injuries to Lions wideouts Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and Kalif Raymond (ankle) and recorded four catches for 36 yards on four targets against the Green Bay Packers. With Raymond ruled out and St. Brown officially questionable for Detroit's Week 14 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, Kennedy could spend another week as the team's primary slot receiver. Dallas represents a favorable matchup for opposing passing games on paper, as they currently rank last in the NFL in both passing yards (3,234) and passing touchdowns (28) allowed. Kennedy's production upside is limited, and it's also likely entirely dependent on St. Brown's status. If St. Brown is active, Kennedy should fall off the radar of fantasy managers. However, if St. Brown is ruled out, Kennedy could be a desperation deep-league flex option in Week 14.

Injury Woes Could Provide Opportunity for Tom Kennedy in Detroit

In his first game action of the 2025 season, Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy recorded four catches for 36 yards on four targets in his team's Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Kennedy was signed off the practice squad leading into Week 13 to replace Lions wideout Kalif Raymond (ankle), and then forced into a more prominent role when star Detroit wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) exited the game early due to an ankle injury. Both Raymond and St. Brown are uncertain to play in Week 14 against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, which could mean another week with significant playing time for Kennedy. Outside of wide receiver Jameson Williams and running back Jahmyr Gibbs, the injury-plagued Lions are desperate for pass-catching talent. Across 25 career NFL games, Kennedy has recorded 18 receptions for 231 yards on 30 targets. In deep fantasy leagues, he could be worth targeting on the waiver wire in case Raymond and St. Brown remain sidelined in Week 14.

Tom Kennedy Pressed into Service in Detroit in Week 13

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy played an unlikely role in his team's offense in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers, hauling in four catches for 36 yards on four targets. The 29-year-old has spent most of the 2025 season on the Lions' practice squad, but he was signed to the active roster heading into Week 13 with wide receiver Kalif Raymond (ankle) sidelined by an ankle injury. Raymond's return timeline is unclear, and the Lions also lost wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) to injury in Week 13. That could force Kennedy into a meaningful role in Detroit alongside wide receivers Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa, at least in the short term. Kennedy has appeared in 25 career NFL games across five different seasons, all with Detroit. He's recorded 18 catches for 231 yards on 30 targets. In the very deepest of fantasy leagues, Kennedy could be worth a look on the waiver wire heading into the Lions' Week 14 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Kalif Raymond, Tom Kennedy Could See Increased Roles

Detroit Lions wide receivers Kalif Raymond and Tom Kennedy could be significant pieces of the offense if Josh Reynolds (ankle) and Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) are ruled out before the game against the New England Patriots. Raymond and Kennedy combined for six receptions for 92 yards against the Seattle Seahawks in the absence of D.J. Chark and St. Brown. This week, the Lions' top four wide receivers could be out (St. Brown, Chark, Reynolds, Quintez Cephus), meaning they would be the top two options at the position. Tight end T.J. Hockenson would likely be the target hog in that case, but Raymond and Kennedy would be viable flex options in deep leagues.

Lions Cut Tom Kennedy

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy has been cut by the organization on Monday. This doesn't come as a surprise considering Kennedy had an uphill battle to begin the preseason. Despite that, Kennedy played well, hauling in 16 receptions for 143 yards and a couple of touchdowns. That still wasn't enough for the Lions to keep Kennedy on their roster. Possibly, he returns on the practice squad and catches on elsewhere. He doesn't have great upside, but has done enough to earn himself a spot on an NFL roster. Fantasy managers can continue to avoid him.

Tom Kennedy Paces Receivers In Preseason Opener

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy led the team with 12 targets, eight catches, and 104 receiving yards during Friday's preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons. He saw targets in the second, third, and fourth quarters. Kennedy bounced around the Lions' organization in 2019 and 2021, catching six passes for 54 yards last season. He also returned four kicks. Heading into 2022, Kennedy hopes to see increased opportunities, but he faces an uphill battle considering the depth in Detroit's receiver room.

Tom Kennedy Makes The Team

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy has made the final roster as the team begins to prepare for Week 1. Kennedy beat out players like Breshad Perriman and Geronimo Allison for the WR6 spot on the team. The 5'10" receiver impressed the coaching staff throughout training camp and led the team in receiving in two of the three preseason games. It is clear that head coach Dan Campbell prioritizes players that are available and out on the field. Kennedy is not fantasy viable but is a feel-good story about a wideout you played his way onto the team.

Tom Kennedy Has 'Inside Track' For WR5 Role

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy is making a strong case to make the Week 1 roster when the Lions make their final cuts Tuesday afternoon. The 5'10" receiver has led the team in receiving yards in two of the team's three preseason games and has been praised consistently by head coach Dan Campbell throughout camp. Campbell told reporters Kennedy has "the inside track" to become the team's WR5 but the Lions will certainly scour the waiver wire across the league in hopes of improving their receiving core. Plus the Lions coaching staff has already made a statement by cutting Breshad Perriman so Kennedy's status is very much up in the air.

Tom Kennedy Earning Team's 'Trust'

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy is making a strong case to make the final roster heading into the team's final preseason game. The 5'10" receiver has led the team in receiving yards in the first two exhibition games and head coach Dan Campbell has taken notice. Campbell told reporters, "We're getting to the point now where you want to find guys you can trust. We trust Tom Kennedy right now." If Kennedy produces this weekend he could be in the mix to make the team.

Tom Kennedy Leads Lions With 61 Yards

Detroit Lions wide receiver Tom Kennedy caught four passes for 61 yards in the team's second preseason game against the Steelers. For the second exhibition game in a row, Kennedy led the Lions in receiving yards. The 25-year-old totaled 46 yards last week and has seemed to develop a nice rapport with the Lions backup quarterbacks. While the 5'10" receiver has played admirably this month, Kennedy may be a victim of a numbers game when final cuts come before Week 1.
