Kerby Joseph Plans to Return This Year

Detroit Lions All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph (knee) intends to return to the field this season despite being sidelined since Week 6 due to a nagging knee injury, multiple sources told Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Joseph's injury is not considered career-altering, as some have speculated. The 25-year-old will seek treatment on his knee in the offseason, but he's hoping to be back on the field in the coming weeks. The Lions never put Joseph on Injured Reserve, and he was able to return to practice on Monday for the first time since his injury. He isn't going to be active this Thursday night against the Dallas Cowboys, but it's possible he could return for a Week 15 game against the Los Angeles Rams. A reeling Lions defense would really benefit from the return of Joseph, who was a first-team All-Pro in 2024 when he had a career-high nine interceptions.

Detroit Makes Kerby Joseph The Highest-Paid Safety In League History

The Detroit Lions have agreed with defensive back Kerby Joseph on a four-year, $86 million extension, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. Joseph's new contract ties him to Detroit through the 2029 season, making him the highest-paid safety in NFL history. The Illinois product led his team and the league last year with nine interceptions and placed third on the Lions with 83 total tackles. He's missed just two games in his three years with the organization, notching at least 74 takedowns and four interceptions in each campaign. The 24-year-old played 99% of the team's defensive snaps in 2024 and will again be a pivotal asset in Detroit's defensive backfield.

Kerby Joseph Won't Be Cleared To Practice Until Training Camp

Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph (arm) will not be cleared to practice until training camp this summer while he recovers from an arm injury. Joseph suffered the arm injury during the NFC Championship game loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and it's going to keep him out of workouts this spring. But as long as the 23-year-old doesn't suffer a setback when he gets back on the field in training camp, he should be ready for the start of the 2024 regular season and will operate as Detroit's starting free safety. The former third-rounder in 2022 out of Illinois has recorded 164 tackles (124 solo), eight interceptions, 19 passes defended, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 32 games (29 starts) in his first two years in the NFL. When healthy, Joseph is on the fantasy radar in IDP leagues for depth at the DB position.

Kerby Joseph Questionable To Return Sunday

Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph (head) has entered concussion protocol and is officially questionable to return versus the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. The 22-year-old was all over the field on Sunday; his 10 tackles were a season-high and tied his previous career-best. Ifeatu Melifonwu should see more snaps in Joseph's absence.
