Casey DeSmith Granted Leave of Absence

Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith (personal) has taken a leave of absence and been placed on non-roster status. In a corresponding move, the Stars recalled Remi Poirier from the minors. DeSmith, who has posted a 9-2-4 record this season, left the team to address a family matter. While DeSmith has allowed four goals in back-to-back appearances, he has been a solid backup option for Dallas behind Jake Oettinger. The 34-year-old veteran boasts a 2.44 goals-against average, a .912 save percentage, and one shutout. Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan expects DeSmith to return to the lineup on Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Casey DeSmith In Stars Crease Saturday

Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith will guard the net in Saturday's matchup against the Utah Hockey Club. He will look to remain perfect in the matchup after beating Utah 2-1 and 3-2 earlier in the season. DeSmith has lost each of his last two starts, but he has been a very reliable backup for the Stars, sporting a 14-7-2 record for the campaign. The 33-year-old boasts two shutouts and has allowed 2.53 goals with a .916 save percentage. The bookmakers have DeSmith and the Stars as -133 favorites for Saturday's game, but Stars head coach Pete DeBoer has mentioned that a flu bug is circulating in the team's locker room, which may complicate matters against Utah.

Casey DeSmith Sharp In Monday's Victory

Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 35 of the 36 shots he saw en route to defeating the Seattle Kraken. The Kraken held the advantage in the shot total, but DeSmith was able to lead the way to the victory. His lone mistake came in the opening frame when Kaapo Kakko scored his 14th goal of the season on a wrist shot. Over his last five contests, DeSmith has posted a 4-0-1 record with a stellar 1.77 GAA and a .948 save percentage. Even though Jake Oettinger sees the vast majority of starts in the Dallas crease, DeSmith is quite effective as the No. 2 option. Through 23 contests this season, DeSmith held a 14-6-1 record and posted a 2.30 GAA and a .922 save percentage. He is worth deploying in deeper formats in his next start.

Casey DeSmith Stops 46 Shots Against Calgary

Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped 46 of the 48 shots he saw en route to defeating the Calgary Flames on Thursday evening. The Flames had nearly double Dallas' shot total, but DeSmith was able to lead the way. His first blemish came in the second frame when center Nazem Kadri beat him with a wrist shot. In the third period, Kadri would strike again, this time on the power play for his 30th goal of the season. Even though Jake Oettinger sees the majority of starts in the Dallas crease, DeSmith has been effective when called on. Over his previous eight starts, DeSmith has posted an impressive 7-0-1 record with a .938 save percentage and a 1.98 GAA. Given his low ice time, he is only worth rostering in deeper formats.

Casey DeSmith Starting On Thursday

Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith will get the starting nod on Thursday evening against the Tampa Bay Lightning. DeSmith has been deployed as the clear No. 2 netminder in Dallas, as Jake Oettinger has seen the majority of starts. Since the start of February, DeSmith has appeared in just five contests. During this stretch, he has held a perfect 5-0 record with a .915 save percentage and 2.41 GAA. Through 20 total appearances this season, the 33-year-old has posted a 12-6 record with a solid .914 save percentage with a 2.42 GAA. DeSmith has posted two shutouts and has allowed two goals or less in 11 of his contests. However, he will have a tough task this evening, facing a potent Tampa Bay offense. He should be viewed as a high-risk option in DFS and only started in deeper redraft formats.

Casey DeSmith Shuts The Door On Blues On Saturday

Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith stopped all 33 shots he faced en route to defeating the St. Louis Blues on Saturday evening. The Stars were heavily outshot in this contest, but DeSmith was able to lead the way. Evgenii Dadonov broke the stalemate in the opening frame, which would serve as the game-winner. This was a nice bounce-back outing for DeSmith, as he allowed nine goals over his previous two starts. During this two-game stretch, he carried a poor .857% SV with a 4.65 GAA. However, over his previous five games before this stretch, the 33-year-old posted a strong .950% SV and a 1.40 GAA. Given how often Jake Oettinger controls the Dallas crease, DeSmith is best left as a streaming option in deeper formats, as he may only see one start each week.

Casey DeSmith Produces A Shutout In Stars Debut

Dallas Stars goaltender Casey DeSmith enjoyed a very successful debut with the team on Sunday, logging a 25-save shutout in a 2-0 victory over Seattle. The 33-year-old became the fourth netminder in franchise history to shut out the opposition in his first game for the team. The fantastic performance followed Jake Oettinger's 34-save shutout on Saturday against the Islanders, making Dallas the seventh team in the past 50 years to record a shutout in each of its first two home games of a season. The Stars could become the first team to have a shutout in the first three home games when the Sharks visit Texas on Tuesday. Oettinger will likely return to the crease for that one. San Jose was shut out in its first game without Macklin Celebrini (lower body) on Saturday versus Anaheim.

Casey DeSmith Out For Game 4

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Casey DeSmith is not dressing for Game 4 of the team's first-round series against the Nashville Predators. The netminder's specific ailment hasn't been revealed but he was perhaps injured when Predators forward Michael McCarron hit him behind the net while he was playing the puck in the second period of Game 3. McCarron received a two-minute minor for interference on the play and was also fined 2K by the league. The 32-year-old turned aside 29 of 30 shots to earn the Game 3 win but it will be 23-year-old Arturs Silovs getting the nod in Game 4 on Sunday. The Canucks lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Casey DeSmith Getting Fifth Straight Start Saturday

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Casey DeSmith is getting his fifth straight starting nod on Saturday against the visiting Calgary Flames. DeSmith has been thrown into the No. 1 spot with the Canucks due to a long-term injury to No. 1 netminder Thatcher Demko. The 32-year-old has risen to the challenge, allowing two goals or fewer in four of his last five starts, including a shutout on March 9 against the high-octane Vancouver Canucks. For the season, the veteran has put forth a 2.75 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage across 23 appearances (20 starts). The Canucks enter Saturday's action sitting in the top spot in the Western Conference with a 44-18-8 record.

Casey DeSmith To Get The Starting Nod Wednesday

Vancouver Canucks goaltender Casey DeSmith is the starting goaltender for Wednesday's contest versus the visiting Colorado Avalanche. The 32-year-old should be in for considerable action with Thatcher Demko listed as week to week with a lower-body injury. DeSmith has been mediocre this season as he sports a 2.85 goals-against average and an .898 save percentage in 19 starts, going 8-4-5 in the process. Nonetheless, his short-term fantasy value takes a major leap forward with Demko sidelined, although he is a risky streaming option on Wednesday as the Avs sit first in the league with 3.71 goals per game on the season.

Casey DeSmith Traded To Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks added to their goaltender depth on Tuesday, picking up Casey DeSmith via a trade from the Montreal Canadiens. In exchange, the Canucks departed with winger Tanner Pearson and a third-round draft pick. DeSmith joined the Canadiens less than two months ago when the Pittsburgh Penguins traded him away. The 32-year-old has featured in 134 games in the NHL -- all with the Penguins -- and boasts a 58-44-15 record with a 2.81 goals-against average, a .912 save percentage, and nine shutouts. He's been a solid backup throughout his career and will give Canucks an extra option behind their No. 1 Thatcher Demko.

Casey DeSmith Joins Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired goaltender Casey DeSmith from the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 31-year-old netminder makes a move up north in a deal that also involved the San Jose Sharks. The Penguins gave up five players in total in the trade, along with a couple of draft picks, to land Erik Karlsson from San Jose. DeSmith has so far spent his entire career as a Penguin, posting a 58-44-15 record. He went 15-16-4 last season, registering a 3.17 goals-against average with a .905 save percentage. He'll be competing with Jake Allen and Sam Montembeault for playing time in Montreal.

Casey DeSmith Named The Starter Tuesday

On Sunday, Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith put on an impressive show, halting 31 of the 34 shots he faced to end the team's two-game losing skid against Washington. Serving as Pittsburgh's backup goalie, the 31-year-old has maintained a decent form throughout the season, posting a 14-15-4 record, a 3.11 goals-against-average, and a .907 save percentage. DeSmith is now preparing to face the Detroit Red Wings, who have struggled lately, losing five of their last six games.

Casey DeSmith Picks Up Overtime Victory Against Avalanche

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith made 41 saves and allowed only one goal in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime victory against the Avalanche. The Penguins backup goaltender has filled in for injured starter Tristan Jarry (upper body) and made his fourth consecutive start in the first contest coming out of the all star break. Jarry is making progress in his recovery and could return for the upcoming back-to-back, meaning that DeSmith can be left on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues as he owns a 3.23 goals against average and .905 save percentage to go along with a 8-10-4 record on the season.

However, he has been performing better in recent games, going 2-1-2 in his last five outings. He has yet to face the Sharks. Casey DeSmith Done For Playoffs After Surgery

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith underwent core muscle surgery on Friday and will miss the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. With Tristan Jarry (lower body) on the shelf, DeSmith was the starter in Game 1 against the Rangers, but he also got hurt himself and will now have to wait for the start of the next season to see some action. Louis Domingue was the starter for Game 2 and is expected to be between the pipes again on Saturday. The 30-year-old took a 5-2 loss on Thursday but did a decent job with 35 saves and should feel even more comfortable in front of home fans.

Pittsburgh head coach Mike Sullivan is expected to provide more info on DeSmith's injury on Wednesday. The series continues with Game 2 Thursday night.

Casey DeSmith Sets New Team Record With 52-Save Shutout

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith had a superb performance against Boston on Thursday, finishing a 4-0 victory with a 52-save shutout. It's the most saves a Penguins netminder has produced in a shutout. Things were pretty normal at first for DeSmith when the Bruins had 11 shots in the first period, but he faced a real barrage for the rest of the game and had to be at his best with Pittsburgh holding only a one-goal advantage after the opening 20 minutes. The 30-year-old picked up his third shutout of the campaign and now has a 9-5-5 record with a 2.75 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. DeSmith has started four of the last five games and should see a lot more action until the end of the regular season with Tristan Jarry (lower body) labeled week-to-week.

Casey DeSmith Stops 33 Shots In Shutout

Pittsburgh Penguins netminder Casey DeSmith stopped 33 shots on Saturday night for his first shutout of the 2021-22 season. On the strength of the goaltending, the club defeated the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 1-0. The rarely-used backstop saw his SV% improve to .905 and his GAA fell to 3.03. He's appeared in just six games this season while No. 1 goalie Tristan Jarry has seen the bulk of the playing time. On the offensive side of the game, Brock McGinn scored the lone goal for the Penguins with assists from Zach Aston-Reese, who also doled out five hits, and Chad Ruhwedel. Jason Zucker and Drew O'Connor led the club with four shots apiece.
