Capitals
Washington Capitals defenseman Ethan Bear has entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program. The 26-year-old will be out of action indefinitely. Bear, who signed a two-year, $4.125 million contract with the Capitals in late December, last featured for the team on March 13. He has made 24 total appearances, recording one goal and four points with 24 shots on goal, 16 hits, and 31 blocks. Bear is already the fifth player to enter the assistance program this season, following his former Washington teammate Evgeny Kuznetsov, Columbus' Patrik Laine, and Colorado's duo of Samuel Girard and Valeri Nichushkin.

Ethan Bear Out Six Months After Shoulder Surgery
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Ethan Bear will be out for six months after having shoulder surgery. The 25-year-old needed to get the procedure done after getting hurt at the 2023 IIHF World Championship. The injury means that Bear will miss a large chunk of next season. Bear is a restricted free agent this offseason after finishing a one-year, $2.2 million contract he signed with Carolina last summer. Bear ended up being a healthy scratch for the Hurricanes at the start of the season and moved to Vancouver in late October. He had a decent campaign on a struggling team, posting 16 points with 82 blocks and a plus-six rating in 61 games.

Ethan Bear Heads To Injured Reserve
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Ethan Bear (upper body) has been moved to Injured Reserve after he was hurt in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Boston. The 25-year-old dropped out of the game after just 17 seconds of action. Noah Juulsen has been called up from the minors to fill the gap in the lineup. Bear has skated in 46 games for Vancouver this season and has 14 points for the year. He entered Saturday's matchup with a three-game assist streak and has been logging major minutes on the first defensive pairing, so Bear's injury is another painful blow for the Canucks during a miserable campaign.

Carolina Sends Ethan Bear To Vancouver
Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ethan Bear was traded to the Vancouver Canucks on Friday along with depth forward Lane Pederson. The Hurricanes received a 2023 fifth-round draft pick and Carolina is retaining 18 percent of Bear's $2.2 million salary as part of the deal. Bear has been a healthy scratch for every game this season and Vancouver needed to bolster its blue line following a string of injuries, so it's a trade that should benefit all parties involved. Bear saw some success in the NHL a couple of seasons back in Edmonton when he had 21 points in 71 games, but he's managed to add just 22 points to his tally since then in 101 outings. He likely won't be making an impact in fantasy hockey.

Ethan Bear Set To Miss Monday's Contest
Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ethan Bear is likely out for Monday's matchup against Washington. He missed the morning skate with a lower-body injury and Brendan Smith is expected to take his place on Monday. The veteran rearguard will provide some physicality to the team, while Bear is the more talented player. He's recorded 13 points in 51 games as a third-pairing defenseman this season. Jaccob Slavin and Tony DeAngelo carry the heaviest load on the Hurricanes blue line, with the latter the more attractive fantasy piece for his prowess on the power play.

Ethan Bear Scratched From Carolina Lineup Thursday
Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ethan Bear was scratched on Thursday night against the Calgary Flames. He is not battling any kind of injury. Bear had struggled a bit in his past three games seeing bottom pairing ice time. He then compounded the less time with more mental mistakes. Rod Brind'Amour seemed to think that maybe a rest and reset was needed for the young defenseman. He has a goal and five assists in 18 games for Carolina while playing 17:51 a night.

Ethan Bear Remains Out On Thursday
Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Ethan Bear has cleared COVID-19 protocols, but he isn't quite ready to return to action on Thursday against Ottawa. The 24-year-old hasn't played since Nov. 20 and it seems like he needs a bit of practice time to get into game shape. With Tony DeAngelo and Brett Pesce still on the COVID-19 list, the Hurricanes are short of quality at the back, so they should be desperate to have Bear back on the ice. The former Oiler has tallied six points with a plus-eight rating in 16 games this season. His next chance to return comes on Saturday against Buffalo.

Ethan Bear Traded To Hurricanes
Defenseman Ethan Bear was flipped from the Edmonton Oilers to the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday in exchange for forward Warren Foegele. The 24-year-old defender took a step back in his development in 2020-21 when he scored just two goals and recorded eight points in 43 contests while averaging just under 18 minutes of ice time per game. Two seasons ago, he recorded five goals and 21 points in 71 games and averaged close to 22 minutes per game. The move to Carolina a high-flying offensive team could help Bear recapture some fantasy value. To do that, he'll have to earn the trust of his new coach and cut down on the untimely giveaways. He has one more year remaining on his contract ($2 million AAV) until he hits restricted free agency.
