Lane Hutson Dishes Out Three Helpers In Overtime Victory

Montreal Canadiens rookie Lane Hutson tallied three assists during their 3-2 overtime victory over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday evening. In the opening frame, Hutson tallied the secondary assist on Josh Anderson's goal. In the third, he would tally the primary helper on Nick Suzuki's game-tying goal. In overtime, he would tally the secondary assist on Suzuki's second goal of the game, which sealed the victory. This was Hutson's second-straight contest in which he tallied three helpers. Over his previous 10 games, the 21-year-old has scored one goal and added an impressive 12 assists. During this stretch, four of his helpers came on the power play. Through 74 total games this season, the rookie has performed at an elite level in the offensive zone, tallying 57 helpers with 24 of them coming on the power play.

This marks Hutson's 14th multi-assist game of the season, tying him with Larry Murphy for the second most in a season by a rookie defenseman in NHL history. Chris Chelios holds the all-time record with 16. Hutson has nine more games to catch him. The 21-year-old is also aiming to break Chelios' franchise record for the most points scored by a rookie defenseman, which stands at 64 points. The 20-year-old stretched his point streak to seven games just a couple of minutes into the contest. Hutson has done all of his scoring via assists during the run, reaching 19 helpers for the season. In fact, he's yet to score his first career goal, coming up empty-handed in 28 appearances this season with 32 shots. Hutson looks like a special talent on the offensive end, but he's also done his bit in the defensive zone, blocking 40 shots from the opposition across 28 games.

Lane Hutson Records First NHL Point Tuesday

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson recorded his first career NHL point during Tuesday's 5-4 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings. Huston tallied an assist on the club's fourth goal of the game, 12:26 into the third period. While the Wings tied it late and eventually won the contest in a shootout, they were eliminated from the postseason due to a Washington Capitals win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The 20-year-old blue-liner recently signed an entry-level deal with the Habs after dominating to the tune of 15 goals and 49 points across 38 games with Boston University this season. He collected 30 goals and 97 points with the Terriers across two seasons before turning pro.

Lane Hutson To Make NHL Debut Monday

Montreal Canadiens defensive prospect Lane Hutson will make his NHL debut on Monday versus the Detroit Red Wings after signing an entry-level deal with the team on Friday. The Boston University product inked his three-year, entry-level deal after his season at Boston University concluded by way of a 2-1 overtime loss to future NCAA champions Denver University on Thursday. "I'm just really excited," Huston said on Monday. " The guys here have been great and yeah, just ready to get going." The 2022 second-rounder notched 15 goals and 49 points across 38 games as a Sophomore this season, finishing second in the country for points by a defenseman. He registered 30 goals and 97 points across 77 games in his two years with the Terriers.
