He was injured in Thursday's game versus Florida and will start a lengthy absence on Saturday as the Canadiens host Detroit. Alex Newhook Secures Four-Year Extension With Canadiens
Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Newhook has penned a new contract with the team, signing up for four years and $11.6 million. He will have a cap hit of $2.9 million. The 22-year-old was a restricted free agent following the end of his entry-level contract. Newhook will be starting his first season with the Canadiens in 2023-24 after the team added him from Colorado via a trade last month. He registered 27 goals and 66 points in 159 regular-season appearances with the Avalanche, becoming a Stanley Cup champion in 2022. Newhook likely won't be competing for any silverware in Montreal next season, but he should have a chance to play a bigger role on his new team.

Alex Newhook Lands In Montreal
The Montreal Canadiens have acquired forward Alex Newhook from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for two 2023 draft picks and defenseman Gianni Fairbrother. Newhook is moving on from Denver as a restricted free agent, and after playing in 159 regular-season games for the Avalanche. He managed 27 goals and 66 points with the team, including 14 goals and 30 points last season in 82 games. Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis has already said that he sees a bigger role for Newhook, which should help him to boost his output in 2023-24.

Alex Newhook Scores Twice Versus Philadelphia
Colorado Avalanche forward Alex Newhook lit the lamp twice in Monday's 5-3 loss against the Flyers. He grabbed a power-play goal early in the game and also netted in an even-strength situation in the third period. The goals came from Newhook's only two shots on the goal, while he logged a season-high 23:04 of ice time. Injuries have forced him to step into a big role, and it looks like there's even more responsibility coming Newhook's way, as Nathan MacKinnon sustained an upper-body injury Monday. The 21-year-old, who has six goals and three assists in total for the season, could find himself centering the first line in Wednesday's matchup against Boston.

Alex Newhook Hands Out Two Assists Monday Night
Colorado Avalanche center Alex Newhook picked up assists on both of the team's goals in Monday's 2-1 win over Vegas. Andre Burakovsky and J.T. Compher notched the goals. Newhook is a late addition to the Avalanche squad as this was only his fourth appearance of the season. He's quickly picked up three assists as the third-line center. The 20-year-old had 16 points in 12 games for the Boston College this season and added a further nine points in eight outings for the Colorado Eagles in the AHL, before making his NHL debut.
